And it looked exactly the same all these years later. When a set is no longer in use, does it stay assembled and decorated and just stored somewhere?

I would like to know this myself. I wouldn't be surprised if sets have been handed off to other shows eventually if they can still be used again, especially if they come from shows that don't stick around long.
