While it’s not possible to save everything, stations should at least digitize and preserve a representative sample — or consider donating their archives if they can’t.

Local stations today broadcast hours of news. You wonder what their preservation policies, if any, are. Maybe they should archive at least one sample of every news show per month, and any special event. Obviously some content is saved, since they can come up with archived footage now and then.

As for the Dumont network shows, and other early live programs, while it would be a nice thought to have preserved these shows, I'd have to wonder, how many people would have any interest?

A guy who used to post here Lamont says he has some DuMont shows so some survived. Sadly he hasn’t posted here in 20 years. Wonder what happened to him?
