Given that Alice was about a waitress trying to make it as a singer and there were episodes featuring Alice singing what actress could have done the role other than Linda Lavin?

I personally think Nancy Dussault (Muriel Rush on Too Close for Comfort) could have done the role. She is funny and a dynamic singer. Sings far better than Linda Lavin and is funnier.
