View Full Version : CHCH Spring 2025
CHCH TV has made a few changes to its afternoon schedule starting this week. "Three's Company" has moved to 3:30 pm while "The Facts Of Life" is at 3. The big change involves "Mad About You" which will now run back-to-back episodes at 2 and 2:30 pm. CHCH normally does this when a series is near the end of its run, yet "Mad About You" still has 2 full seasons to go before it ends. I'm thinking one of those 2 time slots could get filled up soon but not for at least a couple of weeks. The morning group remains unchanged for now. "I Dream Of Jeannie" is about to enter its final season (the one where Jeannie and Tony get married) so there's another change to watch for around mid-March. I'll have more updates once I learn what else might be happening.
KatieAnn 02-11-2025, 05:46 PM In a surprise move CHCH is going to be airing a new daytime CBS soap in the 2pm slot called "Beyond the Gates" starting on Mon Feb 24. "Mad About You" is not on the schedule beginning on that day.

A new soap has really caught my attention. I used to watch soaps for years and gave up on them. As you probably know, there are only 4 left. The soap opera industry was dead. The newest of the remaining 4 premiered in 1987.
That being said, with this soap being added, it means even less classic TV. I could accept this show being added if 1. classic TV shows were back on from 5-6 and 2. Matlock was finally gone.

It is surprising that a network would introduce a new soap when so many have come and gone over the years. But CBS must like their ratings with Y&R and B&B so maybe they'll have success with this new soap too.
More surprising is that CHCH would air the new soap right in the middle of the retro block. They already took the 5-6 hour away & now this hour as well. Not happy that they're removing Mad About You before airing all the episodes either.
KatieAnn 02-17-2025, 06:07 PM Looks like "Mad About You" is back on CHCH starting Monday March 3 with 2 episodes airing from 12pm to 1pm, replacing "The Avengers."
The first episode of "Mad About You" is also scheduled to air on Saturday March 1 at 8pm...wonder if that's going to be a regular thing or if it's just a filler.

I agree with you. The soap opera being added at 2 pm is a really dumb idea. I like '"Mad About You" at noon except that I would have liked to see something else join it at 12:30 instead of having back-to-back episodes.
Guess what? It won't be the only sitcom being shown in March that will get the double play treatment. On Wednesday, March 5, "Knight Rider" will be airing its last episode at 4 pm. The next day, Thursday, March 6, "Newsradio" will return to the lineup at 4 and 4:30 pm. How long it will last is anybody's guess.
KatieAnn 02-21-2025, 10:46 PM When CHCH doubles up on episodes it feels like they're trying to finish off the series quickly, but these days many other channels air 2 episodes of most of their 1/2 hour comedies so maybe CHCH has decided to try the same thing. And Newsradio coming back is great news - I do hope they air the show to the end of the series.
Saw a clip of this new soap and couldn't get through it, there is a reason why soaps started fading away years ago, CBS airing a new soap is quite a shock.

Yes, it will be a regular thing. The first season of "Mad About You" will be seen on Saturdays at 8:00 pm followed by the first season of "NewsRadio" at 8:30. Those will be the only retro additions to the weekend schedule for now.
While it starts again on the weekends, "Mad About You" will be ending soon on weekdays. It will resume again at noon from Season 2 onwards since Season 1 is now on Saturdays. It will be on after "I Dream Of Jeannie" which will end next week and will then start again from the first episode to the end. Other than that, don't expect any more changes for now. The new episodes will begin next Thursday March 20.
KatieAnn 03-13-2025, 09:07 PM To be honest I liked it better when CHCH would air a retro show to the end and then replace it with a different retro show.
CHCH will be making a temporary schedule change this week. When they announced that a new soap opera "Beyond The Gates" will take over the 2 PM time slot, they also agreed to simulcast it with CBS. When the show gets pre-empted, like it will be later this week for the March Madness tournament, other arrangements have to be made. So with that in mind, this Thursday and Friday, CHCH will rerun the first season of "The Facts Of Life" by showing the first 4 episodes Thursday and Friday at 2 and 2:30 pm followed by another episode at its regular time. On Monday afternoon, "Beyond The Gates" returns permanently at 2 pm. You take the good, you take the bad...
Jim Phelps 04-09-2025, 06:19 AM Hello everyone, pretty soon, Hogan Heroes, Odd Couple and Three’s Company will be gone soon. Does anyone knows what replacing these shows soon? I was hoping CHCH put either, Fall Guys, Dallas, Eight is Enough, Happy Days, Jefferson, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Duke of Hazards, Chips, Kojak, Street of San Francisco, Full House, Step By Step, Family Matter, Hogan Family, Growing Pain, Night Court, T.J. Hooker and Charlie’s Angels.

I know what will replace those shows and the answer is - are you ready? - none of the above!
"Three's Company" will end on April 25 and begin again from Season 1 the following Monday April 28 at its regular time of 3:30 pm. On the same day, the lunch hour will look a lot different. It won't be better, just different. This is how it breaks down:
12:00 PM MAD ABOUT YOU - Now down to only one episode per day instead of two.
12:30 and 1:00 SILVER SPOONS - Replaces "Hogan's Heroes" in the lineup and "Mad About You" in the double play department.
1:30 FAMILY TIES - Replaces "The Odd Couple" in the lineup. The first episode that will be shown once it returns will be "Keaton & Son".
Everything else remains unchanged. Sorry guys!
DEH55 04-16-2025, 02:34 PM Silver Spoons is a terrible show. and i am burned out on Family Ties.
Dianne3 04-16-2025, 02:58 PM I like Family Ties, but they stopped it back in October to make room for Knight Rider. Now I don't care that they will be continuing where they left of. I'm used to FT being on at 4pm or 4:30 pm, not at 1:30 pm.
Since CHCH started showing classic TV, this year is the least that I am interested in their lineup.
I predict that when Matlock end its run that it will be replaced by another run of Matlock.

"Beyond The Gates", the soap opera from hell that nobody asked for, will be taking another week off starting today before returning again next Monday. Just like I mentioned above, "The Facts Of Life" will be showing episodes from Season 1 at 2:00 and 2:30 pm for the rest of the week. "Beyond The Gates" will be pre-empted by CBS for Champions League Soccer action, another programming move which I see as being totally unnecessary.
JetJam 05-10-2025, 12:54 AM This is turning out to be the most confusing schedule CHCH has had since the switch to Retro.
Seemingly no exciting shows on the horizon either.

I agree. This may be the worst and weirdest retro lineup they have ever had. Don't expect any major changes until September at the earliest. The good news is that Matlock will be gone in June. The bad news is you can expect more double plays, even in the mornings. This is what June will look like:
NEW MORNING/AFTERNOON LINEUP - EFFECTIVE MONDAY JUNE 2
10:00 AM I DREAM OF JEANNIE
10:30 I DREAM OF JEANNIE
11:00 LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
11:30 MAD ABOUT YOU
12:00 PM MAD ABOUT YOU
12:30 SILVER SPOONS
1:00 SILVER SPOONS
1:30 FAMILY TIES
In short, you get an extra Jeannie episode one hour earlier and an extra Mad About You episode in the morning. Beaver only gets one episode which is an absolute crime. Overall, it's not great and not very exciting, but it's still a lot better than Matlock!
Dianne3 05-20-2025, 04:20 PM Facts of Life (one show that I watch) just started their final season.
Leave it to Beaver is a rare positive addition and because it is only the first run, should be the show with 2 episodes.
What I have noticed is since last year when CHCH turned 70, not long after that there retro lineup got weird. It started by cancelling retro shows from 5-6, followed by rushing to finish shows last August (Brady Bunch was one of them) to showing the same shows over and over and adding a soap opera.

It's about to get weirder!
Last week, the IndieNET stations which include CHCH held their annual upfront presentations where they preview the fall lineups for Sept. 2025. CHCH did mention on their homepage that "CHCH will unveil the fall lineup closer to September." That normally means the last week of August. Here is what I know so far. Brace yourself. It's about to get worse!
COMING TO CHCH - FALL 2025
Beyond The Gates - Season 2
The A-Team
The Six Million Dollar Man
The Rockford Files
More to come...
Details + Video (CHCH will unveil the fall lineup closer to September.)
KatieAnn 06-02-2025, 05:56 PM I'm happy about The Rockford Files, that aired somewhere a few years ago & it was a nice 70s show.
The Six Million Dollar Man might be good...at least it's something "new" to the channel.
Hope for the best with the rest, we all have our favourites but it's probably useless to guess what CHCH will air.
I expect Matlock will come back as it's never off the schedule for long.
Thanks for the update.

Once "The Facts Of Life" ends its final season on June 19, it will be replaced by a second episode of "Three's Company", which will now run from 3 to 4 pm until it ends.
DEH55 06-29-2025, 06:47 PM I havent watched the 6 Million Dollar Man in ages. wow. Bad news is that The Facts Of Life returns this week. i am burnt out on that show.
torcan 06-30-2025, 01:55 PM I'm looking forward to "Rockford Files" - I haven't seen that in ages. I hope there's some other surprises yet to come - the lineup's been pretty boring lately. Some more half-hour sitcoms hopefully.
It seems they're favoring hour-long shows. I wouldn't mind seeing the original "Hawaii Five-O" back again. I was really enjoying that before they took it off around a year ago.
Dianne3 07-02-2025, 01:42 PM I was beat posting this - Facts of Life which just ended its run June 19, is back replacing NewsRadio.
By the time any new shows are added, some viewers may have given up on this network.

I'm almost ready to give up myself. I want to see what the fall schedule will look like before I decide. So far it doesn't look good.
KatieAnn 07-02-2025, 04:59 PM The final two episodes of "Mad About You" air on Tuesday July 15.
Starting on Wednesday July 16, "Laverne & Shirley" will start airing from the first season, first 2 episodes, in Mad About You timeslot, 11:30am and 12pm.
DEH55 07-15-2025, 09:27 AM I was never a fan of Mad About You. One of the most annoying couples on TV ever. I am glad its gone.
kk-likes-tv 07-15-2025, 09:30 PM They need more b&w sitcoms. Shows like Mister Ed which is genuinely funny and so off the wall it can't help but draw in curious viewers. Dennis the Menace is on Tubi and would go well with Leave it to Beaver. Since they have Six Million Dollar Man hopefully it means The Bionic Woman will show up too. That's a great underrated spy show with sci-fi elements like Bigfoot, aliens, female robots and pyramid power straight out of the 1970s. If you're doing retro tv might as well do it right.
I'm hooked on Dark Shadows it's also on Tubi. Such a great show and I don't know if it's gets rerun on tv anywhere. If it's available CHCH could show two episodes at 4 pm Monday to Friday. Barnabas Collins is one of TV's greatest characters ever and the actor Jonathan Frid who played him is from Hamilton. The city even named a street after him. CHCH is sleeping on this one.

You're welcome.
I feel sad about this, but you are right. In what has become a sure sign that fall is on its way, "Matlock" is coming back to its usual 10:00 am slot beginning Friday August 1st.
After that, with the exception of "Beyond The Gates" at 2, the rest of the schedule is all double plays, nothing but back-to-back episodes of all the retro shows until the fall season begins.
CHCH - AUGUST 2025
10:00 AM MATLOCK
11:00 LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
12:00 PM LAVERNE & SHIRLEY
1:00 FAMILY TIES
2:00 BEYOND THE GATES
3:00 THREE'S COMPANY
4:00 FACTS OF LIFE
CHCH - AUGUST 2025 (https://www.tvpassport.com/tv-listings/stations/chch-hamilton-on/43/2025-08-01)
KatieAnn 07-18-2025, 05:41 PM I'm seeing "Charles in Charge" at 4pm and "Coach" at 4:30pm on the Passport schedule!
Actually glad that CHCH is airing "Coach." That's a show that hasn't been on in a while, & I remember it was quite funny.
"Matlock" returning at 10am is no surprise & always disappointing.
torcan 07-23-2025, 10:26 AM I guess the contracts for each show are different. For a long time it seems they were licensing two runs of each show - Bewitched, Get Smart, That Girl, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, etc. - all had two run-throughs and have never been seen since.
I know that Hogan's Heroes has had at least three.
How many runs is this for Matlock now?
Still hoping for some surprises for September - it's been pretty stale lately.
Dianne3 07-25-2025, 02:41 PM Actually, both Bob Newhart and Newhart had only one run which was within the first year CHCH started showing Retro all day.
Charlie's Angles was on, I think in year 2, and also hasn't been on since.
I think the advertisers are sick of Matlock.
I'm sure most of you had seen the commercials looking for businesses to advertise with CHCH. Whenever I see those commercials, I say to myself "even advertisers are sick of Matlock". I'm sure they are not too thrilled with with a soap opera either.
Those commercials explain why the same shows are being shown over and over.

Even the commercials themselves are shown over and over! Like those 4 guys who make their own underwear. That one just kills me! I keep wondering when they will grow up and get a real job. The best one used to be for CHIP Reverse Mortgage. Olympic champion Kurt Browning would talk about how great it was and he would end by saying, "Call Chip Today" - and then "My Three Sons" would come on! I couldn't stop laughing! I miss stuff like that today.
Dianne3 08-13-2025, 01:56 PM The Bionic Woman will be replacing Family Ties.
DEH55 08-17-2025, 10:49 AM I havent watched the Bionic Woman since i was a little kid. lol
