View Full Version : I had no idea this was being debated, but....top sheet or no top sheet on your bed?

So I was surprised to find out yesterday that apparently like half of the world doesn't put a top sheet on their bed. I thought that was just the STANDARD bed dressing, fitted sheet, top sheet, then bedspread. I couldn't imagine NOT using one, as the bedspread gets too hot, but without it, it gets too cold often, the top sheet provides that perfect in-between a lot of the time.

Do you all use one or not?

Apparently a lot of people, as it's being debated, and since this is pretty much a free-for-all chatter/topic forum, I was just curious, so I just WENT FOR IT and posted it

Bed frame, box spring, mattress, sheet, blanket, pillows (with an s, do need 2). All I ever needed. Never heard of a top sheet.

The top sheet would go between you and the bedspread/blanket or whatever you call it depending on your region

The sheet is more comfortable against your skin. Why would you want the scratchy comforter to touch your skin? I don't get it. I don't care what other people do, but why would you not want a soft sheet next to your body?

I agree. Also sheets get washed way more than blankets. They are cleaner on your skin too not just softer. ;)

I didn't know this was a thing. I always thought I was weird because I didn't use one. It's too restrictive for me.

Same here. I hate having anything tucked into the bed. I just use a quilt and wrap myself in it. In fact, we both have our own quilts. The first thing I do in a hotel is pull the sheets and blankets out from under the mattress.

Maybe it’s the tryptophan talking, but I still don’t get the whole top sheet thinking.

I was brought up to use 2 sheets. One underneath you and one over you. In my time I remember when there was no such thing as a fitted sheet. At the store you purchased 2 flat sheets, (1 now only use for the top sheet) and with 2 identical sheets you could use either one for the bottom or top. As for the fitted sheet, it does seem to stay on the mattress better but try to fold one. I am no Martha Stewart. I need a table that fold parachutes. I end up somewhat wobbling it up.

Sometimes if I want to sleep on my couch, that's how I sleep, one sheet under me and one over me
