View Full Version : Your Hero
Kay Scarpetta 10-14-2002, 08:40 PM Anyone have a hero? Come on, everyone does. It doesn't have to be a hero per se, as in "you saved my life", but just people you love dearly, trust, look up to, and can talk to about anything. Or...
It can be someone you don't know, as in a celebrity. Your role model, you look up to....
Here's the catch- A lot of people have their mothers, siblings, etc. as what I just described above, but it cannot be a family member or any blood relation. It must be a friend, best friend, teacher, friend's mother, celebrity (like I said, you don't have to know them) or whatever. If a relation is your hero, then just name the second person in line :p
(Incase your all wondering, this is a homework assignment in which I have to find at least 12 people who name their hero and WHY that person(s) is your hero.)
So......Who's your hero?
Kay Scarpetta 10-14-2002, 09:09 PM AHHHHHH COME ON PEOPLE! This thing is due tomorrow.... someone must have some kind of hero!
Oh ya and I'll need your first name too.

Kristina 10-14-2002, 09:15 PM k my first name is Kristina...
My hero (outside of family) would have to be Avril Lavigne becasue I like her attitude and how she can be real to herself and do what she wants and not what people tell her to do, I look up to her for that. I could also relate to her music and some of the stuff that she went through, I'm going through now, it almost feels like I know her.
I hope that will help ya, I tried to be creative but I'm not lol.
Kay Scarpetta 10-14-2002, 09:26 PM THANK YOU KRISTINA! (And Babes too :D)

~LadyJess~ 10-14-2002, 09:30 PM My first name is Jessica.
My hero is my 8th grade English teacher. She is so sweet and I can talk to her about anything. I still talk with her all the time, even though she was my teacher 3 years ago. I look up to her because I want to be a teacher someday and I want to be an influence in someone's life like she has been in mine.
consentida 10-14-2002, 09:33 PM This is kind of hard but i'll give it a shot...
My Spanish Teacher: My Spanish teacher is probably the kindest person I know. She's such a fair person too. She treats everyone equally and makes it a point to be respectful and nice. I had this teacher in 8th grade (two years ago) and she was the same. I would talk to her after class and the fact that she actually took time out to sit there and listen to me meant a lot to me. She has never treated me like I was 'just a kid'. She always treated me as a person who needed to be heard, a person with ideas and opinions. And she always listened to my ideas and opinions. She was never really good at giving advice but whatever she felt she needed to say, she did. In the time that I've spent talking to her, I've learned a lot. The most important lesson I learned was that it doesnt hurt to be nice to people sometimes. This year in 10th grade, she is still the same as always. she still listens to what I have to say and still treats me the same. I dont know if I would consider us close because I dont know if thats what she'd call it, but there are people who see a difference in her relationship with me than with other students. But Mrs. G is the sweetest person I know and she's taught me a lot. I have a lot of respect for her and I hope she realizes that.
okay...i forgot sumthin: my spanish teacher also pushes me to do things that i really wanna do. I'm such a shy person that i can never muster the strength and courage to do certain things. my spanish teacher has pushed me to do things that i probably would have never done w/out that extra encouragement...so yeah...
aaaaaaaannnnnd................
Selena: Before Selena died I had no idea who she was. In 1997, when the movie "Selena" came out, I went to see it and thats when I learned who she was. A few months later I rented the movie and watched it over and over again. I began to learn the lyrics to her songs in Spanish. I dont speak Spanish fluently so this was a big thing for me. I started singing one of her songs and my brother in law told me that I didnt know what I was saying and that I didny know spanish and blah blah blah. He was right, I didnt know Spanish but from that moment on I was determined to learn. I spent the next three years learning every word to every song. Within that time, I really learned about my culture. Selena was hispanic, I'm hispanic. I realized how important it is to know who you are and where you come from. I also learned that its important to appreciate the fact that you are different and to appreciate the fact that even though you may not look like the all american with the blonde hair and round blue eyes, you have a different kind of beauty. I also learned that you cant deny who are because you cant change or run away from what you are.
oh yeah...my name's Tara....:D
-*Forever*- 10-14-2002, 09:45 PM Ok my name's Kaitlyn...
My hero is Susan Sarandon. She is a WONDERFUL actress and she's been in lots of movies. She's a nice person and I look up to her.
Is that enough...
Ok, since you need this...
My first name is Brittany and my hero is my former History teacher Mrs. Scaife. She was an awesome teacher and friend. She is genuinly nice and really cares about her students. She has inspired me so much I can't even begin to write it all down. One of the greatest things she did for me was convince me to care about my school work and go to college. Because of her I got serious about school, made good grades, and now I am in college on a 4 year full paid scholarship.
Sara Micelli 10-14-2002, 09:51 PM My first name is Sara.
My hero would have to be Mohandas Gandhi because he believed that peace was more powerful than war and fighting. He was a great person and there should be more people like him in this messed up world.
Blair85 10-14-2002, 10:02 PM My name is Emily & ummm I really don't have a hero
Rockapella722 10-14-2002, 10:25 PM My name is Stephanie and my hero is Scott Leonard. He's not only beautiful, but he's nice to his fans and always takes time for them, he sings like an ANGEL... and, oh, did I mention he's sexy as hell?
Georgia's on my Mind 10-14-2002, 10:25 PM My name is Chris.....
I look up to Vivien Leigh because she was so tortured throughout her whole life but managed to pull through it all and be regarded as one of the greatest actress's ever....and basically because she just really had so much pain and suffering...But she reached all her goals and let no one block her on her journey to do what she wanted....
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 10-14-2002, 10:33 PM My name is Amand, and my hero is Mark. He has always been like a dad to me, but at the same time, my best friend. When i turned 15 he hired me as a bookkeeper in his mechanic shop and i've been there ever since. He's taught me everything I know today, and I know he'll always be there if i ever need a friend. He helped me through my parents death, and helped me to cope w/ my aunt. Anywayz.. that's it.
Ewan's My Man 10-14-2002, 10:37 PM My name is Lauren...yea...uh...
My hero is.....does it haveta be a REAL person? B/C if not...Spiderman is my hero...b/c he's a sweety and he can shoot webs, and he saves ppl's lives and he's a good person.
If not, then my hero is Aaliyah. Aaliyah is DEFINITELY my role model b/c she's such a good person. She was sweet and she really knew what it took to accomplish things in her life. When she was doing the movie "Queen of the Damned" or whatever its called, she hadta wear really painful contacts, these teeth, learn how to talk with an accent, and wear barely NEthing in freezing cold temperatures at night. She never complained once. She was a great person and it wasn't fair that she died. But then again, life's not fair.
DarleneIllyria 10-14-2002, 11:13 PM Let me narrow my list down to two. Okay, most important goes first:
My Writer's Workshop teacher- She is such a sweet person. Getting in Writer's Workshop really inspired my stories. Before I got in the class, I wrote a few stories. They probably weren't that great compared to some of the ones that I wrote during and after the class.
Carroll O' Connor- He is such a wonderful actor and really brought his work to life. It's so sad that he's dead now. :( Even though he's gone, his acting still inspires people whenever any of his tv shows or movies are shown.
Hollow 10-14-2002, 11:35 PM Is this for school? Yay im gonna be famous!
My names sarah and my hero is kelly osbourne cuz shes really cool and shes a good person inside.
Czas na Zywiec 10-14-2002, 11:43 PM Ok, you know my name, lol, but I would have to say Mother Theresa. She devoted most of her life to the church and to helping the poor and less fortunate. She worked in missions all over Africa and Asia and was basically a wonderful, caring, sweet person all around. Even though I never met her or thought much about her while she was living, I was sad to hear of her death and just fascinated with her life and how what she did to conribute to the poor. So there's my imput. ;) Hope you pass with flying colors. ;)
My name is Kitt.
When I was in my twenties I had a friend who was in his forties. At first he was only an aquaintance, but over time he and I became best friends. He laughed at life on a day to day basis unlike anyone I've ever know. He helped me to appreciate myself in the most simple ways and made it easy for me to laugh at myself, have humility that is, whenever I went off the rail, so to speak, or said or did something dumb or, more inportantly, disrespectful to someone else. He died suddenly one night. The very moment I was told of him having died on that morning after, I knew that I'd lost someone from my life who I'd forever miss and had lost a friendship unlike anyother I'd ever had or would ever have again.
dawsongirl 10-15-2002, 12:44 AM Well, you have enough people, but I'll blab anyway...
Since I can't say my mom, I'll say Richard Dawson. I just think he's a really good person. He's true to himself and not afraid to speak his mind. In a day when all these phonies are walking around trying to be someone else, it's nice to see someone who doesn't seem to care about putting on false pretenses. I try to do that too...be as real as possible. Being fake isn't going to get me anywhere.
He also loves children and seemed like a great single dad. And I keep thinking, if he can go through all the crap, not only in life but in his career as well, and come out successful, then I should be able to look at myself in the mirror and say to myself that I can too. And I'm one of those insecure people who wants to be successful but I never think I can.
And I admire a guy with a quick wit and a good sense of humor. :)
Kay Scarpetta 10-15-2002, 06:35 AM (Thank God for Copy & Paste...)
Thank you all VERY much!! I appreciate it a LOT!
*psssst* Thanks again!
Well, just in case you need anymore... my name's Emily
My hero is Annette Funicello (yes, a Mousekateer!) She had a wonderful career as a child and then in her later years was struck with MS, and she handled it beautifully. She didn't tell anyone at first, because she didn't believe in pity, then when it came out she just smiled and has still remained a truly wonderful and upbeat person.
Another hero of mine is Judy Garland. Life dealt her quite a few rough blows - and she overcame them all. Obstacle after obstacle, she conquered unwanted fame, an addiction to perscription drugs, abusive marriages, she kept coming back and remained one of the most gifted, and tortured entertainers of all time. Her daughter, Liza Minnelli, has gone through quite a few things herself, and like her mother, has always come back strong.
Mossopp 10-15-2002, 02:51 PM You probably don't need anymore replies now but I'm gonna post anyway cos I'm looking for any excuse not to do my accountancy coursework and this is the perfect distraction. :D
I don't have any heroes per se. To be honest, there are actually very few people that I admire because I've found that it's always the people you hold in the highest regard that let you down really badly.
I'm gonna sound like a twat noting a celebrity here but the person I probably admire the most is Rhona Cameron. She's a Scottish comedian who's only just coming into the wider public conciousness in the UK so I won't blame you if you've never heard of her.
I've been a fan of Rhona's for years. I admire her for numerous reasons but the biggest reason is that, even though I've never actually met her, I just feel that I can really identify with her and a lot of the stuff she's gone though. We seem to have quite a bit in common - we're both Scots, for one thing :D Also, Rhona is a lesbian and, like myself, was picked on mercilessly at school because she wasn't like all the other girls.
She's had problems with alcoholism in her past - again, something I can relate to. She managed to overcome these problems though, and get herself back on her feet which definately deserves respect.
In her career and her personal life Rhona has often found herself getting on people's badsides cos she's not afraid to speak her mind. She tells people what she really thinks and not just what they want to hear. Personally, I think this is an admirable quality - I'd much rather someone be brutally honest with me than lie to my face and talk behind my back. I've lost quite a few friends because they didn't like it when I spoke my mind, so that's another quality Rhona and I share.
As far as appearances and mannerisms are concerned, we're rather alike. Neither of us are particularly tall and we're both quite tomboy-ish. We've got the same haircut aswell, which is actually a bit spooky!
Basically, she's just really good at what she does. Her comedy shows are side-splittingly funny and I'd love to be able to make people laugh the way she does cos it's a great talent to have. She's also very quick - if someone gives her abuse or heckles her she's always got a snappy comeback. Noone ever catches her out.
Did I mention she's also rather cute? ;)
I've probably just undermined everything I've said with that last sentence........
Anyway, sorry if that bored any of you. I know it's never fun to listen to someone prattle on about how great some person you've never heard of is!
My hero, or heroine as I should say, is Kathryn Leigh Scott. After she left "Dark Shadows" in 1970, she didn't have much onscreen work of any kind, but she never spoke bad about the show, and as a matter of fact, she wrote a few books about her experiances on the show. It takes a big person to do that.
