Dede,

How old were you when you met Freddie? You don't have to give specific numbers if you don't want to, but a kid, teenager, young adult?

Did you notice any differences between Freddie and Chico?

Yes puleeeeez--was he beautiful or what? Or couldn't you tell in such dim light? And why did he want to pay for dinner for a stranger? Ulterior motives? LOL!!!

I'd love to hear more! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif That sounds cool meeting a star!

Actually watching CHICO & THE MAN is is one of those guilty pleasures. I've watched & enjoyed the show from episode on first time it was on tv & always thought it was a great show. I never did fall in love with Chico back then even tho he was cute for some strange reason. WELCOME BACK KOTTER & JOHN TRAVOLTA come along came then Shaun Cassidy & I wind up falling for them both. I'd always loved the Monkees ever since they first came out & when they put re-runs of them on the 70's I became a huge fan of them too. & I'm still a fan of them all.

Got married in 1986 & in 88 became a fan of a famous singer after renting a video of him. In 1989 he did a show in our state & my hubby & I went & got to meet him. Ever since then we've been going to his shows & meeting him after the shows.& I collect on him too... So that's kept me busy over the yrs.

How this ties into Chico is that I've started watching it ever since it came back on TVLAND & am really getting into it again. It's just a guilty pleasure I enjoy. It's made me realize how cute he was too... & I realized it's a guilty pleasure. One of those nice little pleasures where you can get away from your day for 30 mins & enjoy yourself...

(Spelling errors LOL!)

Neat story of meeting Freddie! If only I had the luck to meet famous stars but I'm not in CA LOL! I am glad to have meet the singer I am a fan of & have become friends with. He is so sweet. Becoming friends with a star, I found out they are nice folks & regular people too. Freddie sounds like a nice guy!

I agree, cheryl. Growing up in the NYC area, I was fortunate enough to meet a few famous people. A few are jerks, but most are really nice to fans. I guess they realize that they are who they are in small part because of fan loyalty. From what I read on the net here and at other websites, those who have had encounters with Freddie(like de de)have left me with the inpression that he was one of the appreciative stars. A very nice thought. It goes along with the nice guy image we have of him. Thank you for sharing your encounter, De De and continue to tell us more. I only wish we all could have met him.

Girl, why didn't you accept the ride?! And at least TRY to kiss him on the lips?! But otherwise, what a great experience to have had!!! I'm so so so jealous! I lived in LA for 7 years and never even saw a celebrity on the street! The man who did the voice of Tony the Tiger went to the same church, but that was as close as I got!

Ooh, the thought of Freddie in BLACK velvet! I always considered the blue velvet jacket on the show to be HOT, but now....

MORE MORE MORE MORE PLEASE!!!!!!

Hey De De, thanx for the further installment! The drinks Freddie had sound like first a 7 and 7 (Seagram's 7 Crown and 7-Up) then a margarita (tequila and lime juice with salt on the glass). Not that I drink, y'understand http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif! I do know it's not a good idea to mix different drinks in one sitting--sounds like Freddie had more to worry about from the alcohol than the salt!

Now, to repeat my questions from a previous posting, why didn't you accept the ride home or kiss him on the lips?

Hey DeDe! I'm so glad you're here to share all of your wonderful memories of Freddie!! I feel like I know him personally now that I
hear you speak of him like that! By the way,
what show/shows was Tracy on? Sounds like
you both have very interesting lives!

I agree with catcopy, thank you so much De De. Your story was a real glimpse into who Freddie was. I'm extremely jealous of you, but I'm glad you shared your story. I feel that I know him a little better as a person.

MariposaLKB

OK, now I get it--HE kissed YOU on the lips! So spill--how did that feel? I understand he was 6'2"--didn't he have to bend way down to kiss you? And if you were together for an hour, what did you talk about? Or was this during comedy acts so you weren't talking?

BTW, my screen name is Mariposa (butterfly) and my initials are LKB (which I used to use as my screen name).

De De, you must be psychic or something. Freddies eyes have always been the one feature that has hooked me to him. I'm always telling my 16 yr old daughter that that is the one feature that Freddie Sr. has over Freddie Jr. (she's a big fan of Jr.) How you knew to address that feature to me is weird. I would have loved to look into those HUGE EXPRESSIVE EYES!!! BTW, I should know this, but excuse my ignorance, what color were they? (I can't believe I don't know!!!!)

Hey DeDe - you didn't answer my question as to what show/movie Tracy appeared in - I'm really very interested now! I can only imagine how you felt when you were there with
Freddie "and all"! Was this before he was married or when he was going through his divorce? I read somewhere on this message board that he was a heavy smoker - did he smoke a lot while you were there? Could you tell if he was on drugs then? Excuse me for having sooooo many questions!
Again, thank you for letting us all in on
this wonderful moment of yours!

Hey De De! I'm curious to know too--was this while he was married? Like sometime between August 1975 and Jan. 1977? I think those dates cover his marriage--she was divorcing him right before he died. Did you have much of a conversation? What about?

Didja ever met Arlo Guthrie? He's the singer I'm a fan of & am friends with. So far he's the only celebrity I've ever kissed. I've kissed him a few times. Nice kisser but we had nothing romantic going on, it was just friendly as we are both happily married... If I were single tho...

By "drinking" I meant I was out with my friends. I also got one of my friends to get Eddie Murphy's autograph for me.

CHERYL!!???!!!???!!! You kissed Arlo Guthrie??? More than once??? OMG!!!! I've lusted after him for years!! Jeez!!! I know this board is for Freddie, sorry for the OT, but Jeez!! Jeez!! You are my new favorite person to hate! LOL!

Cheryl Harrell

It's okay if ya hate me LOL! I don't have any romantic thoughts about him since he's just a friend & we're both married but he's cute. I'll share him with ya! I already have with tons of other folks LOL! They should've had him in a CHICO episode. He could've sung in Ed Browns Garage. He has an offical website http://www.arlo.net which has message boards on there & some other message boards too: http://pub30.ezboard.com/beztalk54839

I'm working on my own website in tribute to Arlo. Boy, I hope my hubby doesn't tell Arlo that I've been getting into CHICO here lately (I've always enjoyed the show tho) because Arlo is liable to get jealous LOL! We told him I'm a big Monkees fan too & he acted like he was jealous LOL! He is a really sweet guy. We've gotten to know not only him but his kids & his bus driver who drives him in his bus to his shows & the girl who sells the stuff on him his shows & they are all nice people. We've even gotten to meet & know some of his friends.

Sounds like you've got good taste in stars! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good thing I never kissed Chico-Freddie (well I never met him before either) or I'd be the most hated woman in America LOL!

What kind of slacks was he wearing, what color? (I know, you probably can't remember, it was so long ago! BTW--have you ever said what year it was?) I've noticed on CATM that even in certain dress slacks Chicote is well in evidence!(I don't know if you're familiar with the term--it's what we decided to call that particular part of him. I suggested it. it means "cigar" in Spanish--y'know, "SMOOOOKIN'" LOL!!!) Were you standing close enough when he kissed you to feel it against you? Did he have his arms around you? OOOH, I just woke up and already I'm in this mode? Cold shower time!!!!!! Thanx for all the great stories! Excuse me, though, for being so disgustingly curious about this particular aspect of your experience!

B U T T E R F L Y ! You surprise me.... LOL CIGAR? HAHAHAHAHA Early in the morning huh? De De tell us all the details!!! Cheryl.... I was a big fan of the Monkees back then too. I saw some of their shows recently but, they stopped showing them here.

MariposaLKB
03-31-2001, 11:04 AM
Yes, I know it's dumb, but it was the closest thing to "Chico" I could find that had any connection to the idea we were trying to talk about without using the usual terms! I thought it was appropriate cuz of "smoking" and also the color of a cigar. I thought I had explained all this elsewhere and that everybody got it! No offense, I'm just kinda embarrassed now that someone is pointing out how silly it is!

I agree-thanks for sharing. I enjoy reading your posts DeDe-it is so nice to hear good things about Freddie and to get a glimpse into his personality-seems all you ever hear whenever any show or article mentions him is the fact that he was a drug addict and supposedly committed suicide never a mention of the talent he had or the fun he gave so many people but most of all he was a human being just like the rest of us and was entitled to make mistakes. So thanks again for al the positive feedback-Ithink we all appreciate it here and I know that Freddie appreciates it too!!!
