Yes and other restaurant chains closing are Pizza Hut you can thank the architects of the Reset for mega numbers of businesses closing down. Business owners large and small are Drowning in DEBT....People are staying in their homes... Our thriving beach town is a ghost town..

The Apple's, Amazon and Micrsoft et al, can't count their MONIES fast enough....

I used to be a fan of Rite Aid when my town had two of them and sometimes when my dad would go to work Mom and I would go into Rite Aid to find interesting stuff and Rite Aids were interesting stores because you could find all sorts of items like books magazines movies and even music albums too and when I would go to Rite Aid my favorite section was their music section because they would get all the new releases and they had albums that were hard to find as well. I only now have one Rite Aid in my town and I remember when Rite Aid used to be known as Payless Drugs and then Thrifty Drugs merged with Payless Drugs and then converted itself into Rite Aid and the towns near me always had Rite Aid and one of the towns has a shopping center with a Rite Aid and next door to it is Big Lots so you can imagine those two places get a whole lot of shoppers. But it used to be that Rite Aid Osco Drugs Valu-Rite and Phar-Mor were the drug store kings but when CVS came along they replaced Rite Aid as the number drug store chain second to Walgreens and I think CVS is the one that made Rite Aid go broke because CVS wants to be king and they seem to have the great deals on anything you name. But I can guarantee you that another drug store will buy the remaining Rite Aids and convert them like Longs Drugs did with Payless Drugs in Northern California

Rite Aid has the distinction of a Ice Cream area, one could buy a great single or double cone, or a pint of hand packed to take home... They have all been just fine, a lot of buying one another...

Ma'am, Rite Aid is a pharmacy. Apple is tech. So is Microsoft. My generation can at least tell the difference between the 2.

Rite Aid has always been my least favorite of the pharmacy retail stores, but it's also the most convenient to pickup prescriptions since it's closest to my house so I'm glad my city isn't on the list! I am familiar with one of the Michigan locations closing, though.

Very true, but why do I feel this post is going to give us one of those "big pharma" rants? ;)

Many of the Rite-Aid stores around me all became Walgreens as they bought over 1900 Rite Aid's around January 2018.

There's only a handful of Rite-Aid's left around me as all of the others are Walgreens and CVS. Duane Reade is another one, but they are under the Walgreens company and are located mainly in NY and NJ.

The CVS and Aetna merger, completed in November 2018, combined CVS Health's pharmacy services with Aetna's health insurance, aiming to create a more integrated and accessible healthcare model.

CVS Health plans to exit the individual health insurance business also known as Obamacare next year, leaving about 1 million Aetna members in 17 states looking for new coverage in 2026.

The decision, disclosed Thursday, a day when CVS reported nearly $1.8 billion in net income amid a financial turnaround, comes as a relatively new management team works to get rising healthcare costs in its Aetna brand health insurance plans under control.

“The company decided to exit the individual exchange business where Aetna independently operates ACA plans for 2026,” CVS said in a statement Thursday accompanying its first quarter earnings report regarding coverage that its Aetna health insurance unit sells under the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare.

CVS Health said on Wednesday its Aetna insurance business will pull back its Medicare Advantage offerings next year, operating prescription drug plans in 100 fewer counties than 2025.

The company will provide plans in 43 states and Washington D.C. and 2,159 counties for 2026, down from 44 states and 2,259 counties in 2025.

CVS Health has the fourth-largest Medicare Advantage business for people aged 65 and older or with disabilities, following rivals UnitedHealth, Humana and Centene. The government pays private insurers to operate the plans.

Bump

Value City Furniture is another retailer closing all locations. Unless I'm mistaken, it's due to the parent company filing for bankruptcy.

Also I will mention that the Gabe's department store in my area has closed.

JCPenney may be announcing some closures, we'll have to see. Here are some other stores I found online that have faced trouble:

Macy's: Plans to close around 150 underperforming stores by 2026 (Source: The Street)

Inditex: Closed 132 stores in 2025 (Source: Inditex)

Claire's: Closed nearly 300 U.S. stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2025 (Source: Delaware bankruptcy court files)

Victoria's Secret: Has closed 30 U.S. locations since the beginning of 2025 (Source: Victoria's Secret)

More and more places closing. But on the other hand, the stores themselves have gotten too big. The square footage is huge in stores. 100 years ago store were size postage stamps compared to today and you has smaller stores in local cities. We had 2 mom and pop drug stores 60 years ago, but no more for parking plays a bit part and these were in more walkable areas back then. . Everyone drives further now for items.

Victoria's Secret and Macy's may be following the trend of malls failing. Same with JC Penney; their older stores are gigantic. I was in a huge Macy's recently and was surprised at how bustling it was on a Thursday afternoon. But by now it's one of only two Macy's in the Indianapolis area.

Some of this trend is rightsizing. Macy's, for example.

Other large retailers never gobbled up other chains, and are thriving--think Dillard's. Now there's a smart retailer. And with an excellent website for e-tailing.

Mishawaka Indiana (sister city of South Bend) still has their Macy's and JCPenney, one of each. The other anchor store of the enclosed mall they're in is Barnes & Noble.

You're right, they're gigantic stores.
