Do u prefer a certain kind of pens or pencils....?

For write ability, it's pretty hard to beat these:

But they look like cheap junk.

But also at Dollar GeneraI found retractable pens that looked good, but wrote terribly.

I found that the core from the good writers fit perfectly inside the good looking shells, so I always stock up on both, and canibalize to get the combination I prefer. I end up with a pen that writes as good as a G2, but looks like it costs much more.

I'm also a Sharpie freak, But the all-time best, IMO was the Sanford "Liquid Expresso" with the on-board liquid ink well. Sadly no longer sold, but replaced by the Papermate "Liquid Flair" which is passable, so long as it's the razor point, and not the hi-lighter

I used blue Cristal Bic pens all through school and still think they are the best pen. The ink flows smooth and never skips. My handwriting is illegible with most other pens. As for pencils, Ticonderoga are the best.

Anybody who enjoys a quality pen really needs to check out the Sharpie S-Gel with the gunmetal barrel.

The plastic S-gels are okay, but like most plastic pens feel a little flimsy. The metal barrel variety makes it a pen worth owning.

Felt tip: Paper Mate.

I use CD/DVD markers to label my CDs and DVDs.

The metal barrel Sharpie S-gels have won me over big time....inexpensive, write great, no skipping, now available in colors... The metal barrels give the pens some heft,...I'm sold....even stocked up on refills "just in case"

I was at a Salvation Army store a while back and bought a 1940's era mechanical pencil exactly like the following, a Dixon "rite-rite" Threadline Viewpoint.......with this insane mother of pearl exterior.

The amazing thing about it is the heft...not one bit of plastic....all the internals are steel. When I found mine it had one of those wedge shaped rubber eraser caps over the top end...and red pencil lead. You could almost taste the "third grade old biddy school teacher" on it

One thing I've found surprising is that refill leads in a red color in this size (.9 mm) are almost non-existent. The local drafting stores I remember from my youth are almost non-existent as well. And the big-box stores, including Office Depot don't even carry .9 mm red on their inventory

Amazon seems to have one odd ball Chinese source...that's it, evidently.

Anyway, great quality pencil, great feel...definitely a relic from an America that doesn't even exist anymore....love it!

Most of them are as far as I'm concerned, using the brain more and learning new words, that's a good thing. There are games I never go to as I feel they are senseless.

I just use any ballpoint pen that writes well, usually a Bic, for jotting things down & writing checks.

I sometimes have to make some big posters, which I outline with a #2 pencil and then go over with these Carter's markers, preferably"bullet-point":

Before I discovered the S-gel metal barrels, the following were my favorite. They were Frankenstein pens of a sort. The outer shells, with the translucent barrels were sold at Dollar General for a dollar a piece, but had the wimpy ink element as shown on the far left, which was available only in black, and wrote poorly, skipped a lot.

Then, also at Dollar General, they had other plain jane pens that sported gel ink elements in colors....also a buck a piece. (second from far left). Luckily the elements were interchangeable. So, for a mere $2 a piece I got pens that looked good, and wrote good. True, I normally use only the black, but it's nice to have the extra colors available.

And the surprising thing is, I actually get compliments from people who use them, wanting to know where to get them.

The only down side, being all plastic, they feel light and cheap.

Also, pretty much as just a novelty, I have a fairly good collection of Listo "grease pencils". Which are cool because they will write on nearly any surface, wet or dry. the actual pigment elements are about 3/16" diameter, and extend via a twist on the color pin, so they produce a nice bold line.

Yes, this is true. I am an icon...a rosetta stone of literacy. Seems like just yesterday I was uprooting the natural order, the only kindergartener turning in assignments written in cursive.

Has anybody here used a "paint pen"?

Like a large felt tip, but containing actual paint instead of ink. The nice ones have a ball bearing inside so you can shake them like a spray can, and mix the paint. And then write like you got a paint brush freshly dipped in paint.

These things are a grafitti taggers' wet dream.
