View Full Version : Shows that have gotten Reran to death!
Sitcomwriter 09-29-2002, 12:11 PM What shows have gotten reran to death?
Starting this week The Larry Sanders Show will air on Bravo 10 times a week as well as 2 times a week in NY Syndication and until recently reruns aired on HBO Comedy 5 times a week (But was recently replaced by Curb your Enthusiasm).
That's certainly Overkill....
Brenton 09-29-2002, 02:55 PM TV Land is the worst at doing overkill. I think we can do without "Happy Days", "Taxi" and "Gilligan's Island" ten times a day! Once is enough. There are too many sitcoms worth repeating.
TVJunkie101 09-29-2002, 03:36 PM One or two airings a day is just enough, IMO, on any network.
'Happy Days' 1 airing Monday-Friday, Saturday-Sunday on WGN; 4 times a day, 6 days a week on TV Land
'Leave it to Beaver' 4 times a day
'Beverly Hillbillies' 4 times a day
'Felicity' will be airing 3 times a day on WE, same with 'Two Guys and a Girl,' but not everyday (yes, they just started, but still...)
'X-Files' will be airing 10 times this week on Sci-Fi and on TNT 3 times a day
'Law & Order' airs on TNT 5 times a day, give or take an airing each day (it alternates between 4 airings and 5)
'Brady Bunch' will be airing 4 times a day on TV Land
'Gilligan's Island' airs 3 times a day on TV Land
'Cosby Show' airs 4 times a night on Nick at Nite, 1 time on WGN and 1 time on TBS
'Saturday Night Live' airs 6 times a day on Comedy Central, and 3 times a day on E!
'MASH' airs 8 times a day on FX
'Sister Sister' airs 4 times a day, give or take an airing
So, a lot of shows air constantly. Taxi only airs two times a week on TV Land, it's hardly overplayed.
Adamantium 09-29-2002, 03:56 PM Saved by the Bell- Even though I like the show, I have probably seen each episode a hundred times. It has been on TBS for ten years now.
I use to think that USA reran 'Wings' too much, but then I became a fan of the show and was glad.
I agree that TV Land shows the same shows over and over again. 'Happy Days' is shown four times a day, and 'Perfect Strangers' is not on the lineup at all. Maybe I'm just bitter that my favorite shows are not on TV Land.
M*A*S*H- Although it's leaving soon, FX shows M*A*S*H six or seven times a day.
SBTB Geek 09-29-2002, 10:22 PM Saved By The Bell got overplayed in the 90's.
3:00-4:00- TBS
4:00-5:00- WGN
5:00-6:00- My local WB station.
It got played 8 times a day!!!
It's still somewhat overplayed. I see 4 Saved By The Bell episodes everyday. 2 from TBS, and 2 more from KDOC.
But I'm not complaining! :D
Ericguy 09-30-2002, 02:02 PM I Love Lucy is just run to death. Some shows there are explanations for like MASH on F/X. It is owned by 20th century fox, which owns FX so they dont have to pay to air it, therefore, it fills time nicely. Nick at Nite owns many of the shows they air all the time like Mary Tyler Moore and some shows like Lucy just are owned by nobody therefore they dont have to be paid to run. You can tell shows that NAN does not own because they are the ones that appear and reappear like Dragnet, Leave it to Beaver, Green Acres, My favorite martian, Different Strokes and Dennis the Menace. They periodically go off because Nick loses the rights to them and has to renegociate all over again. The shows that get played to death like Lucy, the Honeymooners, and Dick Van Dyke are the ones that are free to the network. I suppose sometimes its not about the best lineup but the cheapest one. Nick is owned by Viacom, which owns CBS, so almost any show that aired on CBS nick can run cheap or at no cost to them. The problem is that CBS has had thousands of shows from the twlight zone, to Alice, to One Day at a Time and so on. There is still no excuse to put the same ones on over and over. By the way, the show that I am the most sick of is Family Matter, followed by Full House...UGH!
Brian Damage 09-30-2002, 02:23 PM I think these shows are repeated to death:
1. M*A*S*H
2. Married with Children
3. The Cosby Show
4. Fresh Prince of Bel-aire
5. Happy Days
Fan of old shows 09-30-2002, 03:10 PM Home Improvement........
Stormtracker TF 09-30-2002, 03:59 PM I'm Glad Happy Days Is Rerun So Much! It My Favorite Show!
If It Was Rerun 20 Times A Day I Would Still Never Get Tired Of It!
Crimson and Clover 09-30-2002, 04:37 PM Cheers and The Cosby Show
AdiTheGame 09-30-2002, 04:46 PM The Brady Bunch - for such a crappy show, it should be gone.
The Cosby Show - I like the show, but NAN should tone down.
Taxi - Barely reran, it should be reran more!
I don't have a problem with Cheers (tied for my fav show) and Happy Days, I don't think HD is reran too much, I don't remember the schedule for Wings when it was on USA.
TVJunkie101 09-30-2002, 06:10 PM Sorry to disagree with some of you, but I Love Lucy is hardly rerun to death. Sure, it aired on Nick for years, but then it was treated like crap, now TV Land was treating it good, not it's being treated like crap all over again. ILL airs only 2 times a day on TV Land, so I really don't call that reruned to death..
The problem is some of these networks go way overboard...
I heard a radio promo this morning announcing that TBS is showing back to back episodes of Friends, Seinfeld and Drew Carey every day now...
Please, enough with the back to back crap. I love these shows, but you're killing me here!

I Love Lucy is owned by Paramount. N@N/TVLand does not air the 'free' versions many low power independent stations air. They get the ones from the people who own it. You can tell because the one the indies air are in terrible quality but on N@N they are a lot clearer.
And networks can't just air stuff because it was on the network that is part of their company (CBS). Yes, Twilight Zone is owned by CBS. But One day at a Time is owned by Colombia Tristar/Sony. And they DO have to pay for them equally. FX got in a lot of trouble for airing 20th Century Fox shows (M*A*S*H) and not paying as much as say N@N would pay.
Ericguy 10-02-2002, 11:45 AM Thanks for the info. I never watched enough I hate lucy to see the differences in quality but I will take your word for it. As far as owning and not owning, I know that a network does not necesarily have rights becuase they ran the show orginally but NICK is owned by Viacom and they do own many shows outright, certainly more than they run now. Besides, as much money as Viacom has, negociating the rights and paying companies should not be as much of a problem as it is now.
Brenton 10-02-2002, 07:11 PM Well, in my opinion, I LOVE LUCY is the greatest sitcom of all-time. I put it against any of the other shows on today. Shows like "Friends", "M*A*S*H*", "Married: With Children" - oh, please! These are not real sitcoms. I wish "Friends" would just die. What an overly-hyped bunch of crap!
The true successful hit sitcoms of yesteryear are being overshadowed by the junk of the 1970s to the present. It is sad, because we the debut of "All in the Family", sitcoms went downhill.
Johnny McBeal 10-18-2002, 03:34 AM I think we can all join in and say three little words
THE COSBY SHOW
I used to love Cosby, but I can't bare to watch it anymore thanks to it being on every single station at any given time

I was gonna say that. I don't think it's been off the air since 1957!

Saved By The Bell
DarleneIllyria 10-18-2002, 09:31 PM My List:
Leave it to Beaver- I love this show but cut back on it please! I'm gonna get sick of it if they keep playing it as much as they do. (I feel like a traitor here since I like this show, but I hope all the Beaver fans know what I'm getting at)
The Andy Griffith Show- I love this show too, but it's like Beaver. It's went from station to station and I wish it would be cut down too. (I feel like a heel now)
The Cosby Show- I think this is one overated sucker on Nick at Nite. Please cut down on the airings.
Cheers- See TCS
Bewitched- Okay, Dick York years were awesome. Dick Sergent years sucked. Doesn't matter which Dick it is, it still get run into the ground on some stations.
I Dream of Jeannie- See Bewitched
Beverly Hillbillies- I'm sick to death of seeing this show. It comes on 5 times a stinking day. Drop a few airings and show something...good.
Brady Bunch- I'm not a diehard fan of this show. I can stomach it in small amounts. However it needs to drop a few airings too.
Gilligan's Island- Let it disappear into a vault for a few years. It's been in syndication since who knows how long.
Sister, Sister- I stay up late at night and everytime I flip the tv past the Disney channel, I see this show. Geez, cut back now and get some more shows to air.
Saved by the Bell- Yeah, if it's been rerun on TBS for 10 years straight- it's time to leave while it can.
Happy Days- Cool show if we are talking about the Ron Howard years. Other wise, it isn't worth watching. However, it is still run into the ground on tvland whether or not it is the RH years or the other years.
*I have another comment to make. Some people might actually be able to stomach their favorite show in large quantities. I'm a person that just can't sit through hours and hours of the same show. I'll take 'The Twilight Zone' for example. I've got my marathon tapes and I can watch them whenever. If I wanted to watch them 8 hours straight, I could. Here's the clincher though, if Scifi actually ran 8 hours of TZ everyday I would get sick of it fast. Yes, you read correctly. I love it when Scifi has the 48 hours of TZ during New Years and 4th of July. I love watching the whole weekend, but I know it's just for that weekend. I won't be watching 48 straight hours of TZ every single weekend. Like I say, if Scifi played favorites and showed TZ every other hour- I would get sick of it. I would sell every piece of TZ and Rod Serling memorbillia. That's just how I am.
CHUCK T 10-18-2002, 09:53 PM MASH on FX--alright already.

Same here. I used to love those Fandemonium marathons TV Land had because I could just watch all day long if I wanted. But if I ran into the show 86 times a day, I'd find something else to do. Exactly why I'm sick of constantly seeing I Love Lucy and why I outgrew it.

Haha, the same thing happened to me with Golden Girls. At first I liked the 6 airings a day, but then I got sick of it. I still watch it occasioanlly during the 11pm airing, but I'll switch the channel if I see something else on. I just can't wait til next month cause the Nanny is coming to Lifetime and while FOL will be gone, I can get back into the Nanny. Haven't seen it in two years.............

I agree 100 % with this statement. I don't think "I Love Lucy" has been rerunned to death. If anything, it should at least air more than two times a day.
LucyFan 10-20-2002, 12:16 AM Here is my list:
"The Andy Griffith Show"
"The Beverly Hillbillies"
"All In The Family"
"The Cosby Show"
"Cheers"
"Friends"
"Seinfeld"

The only two I agree 100000% on is The Beverly Hillbillies and The Cosby Show. UGH. Enough said, LOL.
Sean Snow 10-20-2002, 09:12 AM I Love Lucy - It seems like everyone over the age of 10 has at least seen one episode.
The Andy Griffith Show - Yeah it's TV Land's #1 show, but it's been run too much imo. This really sucks when they're in the color years.
M*A*S*H - FX airs it to much right now and it's been on the local UPN fora while now.
Leave it to Beaver - This show is OK (IMO) but they should cut down on it.
The Cosby Show - This airs wwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy tooo much on Nick-at-Nite! 4 times a day is too many times to air the same program, especially when other shows are only airing once aday.
The Cosby Show- I think this is one overated sucker on Nick at Nite. Please cut down on the airings. My local FOX also shows this show 4 times followed by an airing of Cosby *Bleh*
The Beverly Hillbillies - Okay I used to like this show, now I hate it! It seems whenever I'm bored and want to watch something it's on. It's on waayy too much.
The Brady Bunch - I can stand one episode or maybe even two, but it's airing too much also.
Gilligan's Island - I like this a lot more then 'Brady' but I still feel they should cut down on it.
oldshows 10-20-2002, 10:08 AM I don't think any great series can be run into the ground. I still enjoy watching them over again. That's the true mark of greatness. Heck, in my opinion, in current sitcom that's on t.v. has been run into the ground after one episode. They're just that bad. I guess its a good thing I love Andy Griffith because if you lived in the piedmont of N.C., the local CBS station shows Andy at 5:30 in between the 5:00 and 6:00 news cast. I can't remember when Andy wasn't shown at 5:30 and would be very sad if they decided to ever stop showing. Luckily, I don't think they will. Like I said, I'm in N.C. and that's the home of Andy.
"The Brady Bunch" comes on 4 times a day on TVLand. It needs to go. It's not nessicarily the number of timeslots now, it's just basically how long it's been on. TBS for years, NAN for years, now TVLand is airing it four times a day. It comes on 4 times Monday-Saturday, and 2 times on Sundays. 4 x 6 is 24, + 2 is 26. 26/117 is 4.50. It's gonna take a month and a half to go through the whole run of the series on TVLand. TVLand, please drop two airings of this to bring back "Three's Company" and "Alice," or better yet, drop all four airings to squeeze in "Dallas!"
Impressions 10-20-2002, 03:15 PM The Cosby Show: Airs on TBS, Nick-at-Nite, WGN.
I Love Lucy: Hasn't been of the in decades.
The Brady Bunch: Played very often during the day.
The Andy Griffith Show: Many local channels air this show, along with TV Land.

Your cancellations are wrong. TV Land does repeat the episodes. If you have noticed, they are two episodes a day of the show (as well as most of their twice as nice shows except 'Gilligan'). The two other airings are just repeats. 7X2=14. 14 episodes a week.
56 episodes a month, 112 episodes two months. Actually, it will take about two months to go through all of the episodes. That is not bad if you're a die-hard fan of "The Brady Bunch".
nimrod_86 10-20-2002, 09:04 PM Married with Children is only on 4 times a week where I live...and that's not enough for me. But i'd say i'm getting tired of Friends, 7 times a day is getting old.
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 10-21-2002, 12:59 AM Bewitched, been reran too many times

I agree. I think Wings, The Simpsons, NewsRadio, Taxi, and Cheers are all great sitcoms because I can watch them over and over again and still laugh out loud each time.
AlexPKeatonFanboy 10-22-2002, 05:42 PM The Cosby Show, Cheers and Friends
RainMan 10-22-2002, 06:20 PM Well, it may not be today,
but I know a show we ALL love that overan too much and we didn't care!
THE FACTS OF LIFE!
Whenever it was on! We loved it!
It had it's own halloween marathon, TWO Week Long marathons, Return of the 80s! AND it ran for two hours every night on nick at nite! Now that's a show we all love that overran but we didn't care!
Remember Make Your Own Sundays on N@N? When Facts of Life was in one of the choices, IT ALWAYS WON! I think it lost once to All in the Family. I was so pissed at that!
But now we're all pissed off at Nick-At-Nite for taking it off the air.
BRING IT BACK N@N!
Nate
Sitcomwriter 10-22-2002, 07:33 PM Don't get me wrong "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is my favorite show but it only has 20 episodes (Not counting the new season) but it airs Sundays on HBO,Direct Rerun the next night on HBO 2 and nightly on HBO Comedy (They've gone through the cycle TWICE already!)
For those blessed with Digital cable that makes 12 times a week
dlemond 10-23-2002, 12:55 PM Cosby, Beverly Hillbillies, All in the Family, Andy Griffith, Leave it to Beaver, Gilligan's Island.
Ones I like that are still on a lot- Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy.
And just where the hell is WKRP?
Try rerunning this show!
