The new channel from MeTV parent company Weigel Broadcasting Co., which will be available on over-the-air broadcast television as well as ad-supporting streaming services, will air beloved Warner Bros. Discovery cartoons like Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Popeye and more, along with Rocky and Bullwinkle, Woody Woodpecker, Casper, Betty Boop, Speed Racer and others. MeTV Toons will officially launch on Tuesday, June 25.
BigManMike 05-01-2024, 03:49 PM It’s an over the air channel. They haven’t announced what cities and stations it will be coming to yet. I would imagine it would be available streaming on Frndly and Philo since they both have most of the other Weigel networks.
Charles Knox 05-01-2024, 04:35 PM I figured something like this would be launched this year. They should split the network like Nickelodeon, and show cartoons during the day and retro sitcoms at night. Maybe even create some kid friendly game shows in the late afternoon.
They also need to do a Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon special preview on METV to let all the Boomers know about this network.

"Other shows will be sourced from Paramount Pictures, MGM Studios, Terrytoons, Sony’s Columbia Pictures, Comcast’s Universal Studios and Jay Ward Productions, among others."
I wonder if we will get to see Mighty Mouse on the new channel?

"Animation author, history and executive Jerry Beck and voice actor Bob Bergen are joining the new network at launch. Beck will help produce original content intended to expand and enhance the viewing
experience. Bergen — who has voiced such classic animated
characters as Porky Pig, Tweety Bird and Marvin the Martian – will
serve as the network’s signature voice. "
"After the launch on June 25, Weigel will do another promotional push for the new network on Bugs Bunny’s July 27 birthday, Weigel Network Marketing senior VP Will Givens said. Weigel and its partners also plan to present a panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this summer."

There are a boat load of over the air retro TV show channels but not cartoon only one. So I'm thrilled to see this becoming available.

I can definitely see them dropping an existing network, in fact I think it's almost a certainty. My initial thought was Story TV but that network may not have enough clearance and that will be the key. METV+ is a possibility but again does it have the clearance. The more established H&I or Catchy Comedy may be a better fit. One of them is going, I think METV and Movies! are safe. I hope it is Story TV the existence of that network doesn't make much sense.
One final note, I looked at Weigel Broardcasting's website, METV+ doesn't appear to be referenced, so there is that.

Metv + is not technically a network it is a channel available on metv own stations and philo and friendly tv https://www.metv.com/metvplus

stevea 05-01-2024, 08:52 PM I'd like to see this network replace that nothing network locally, Dabl.
I'd also like this network to include more Jay Ward properties, and also Total Television material. Otherwise, it seems like a wish list come true for many. Also, I wonder if it will include the Columbia cartoons, since Toon In with Me seems to have shuffled those off to MeTV+.

If Jerry Beck is going to be involved, I figure Columbia, UPA and Harvey Toons will be shown on the new channel. When Jerry was on Stu's show a while back, he was bursting at the seams to keep this under wraps and not spill the beans.

1960'sTVfan 05-01-2024, 10:53 PM Not as much of a cartoon watcher now as I used to be but I have DVD's of some Hanna Barbera favorites, Flintstones, Jetsons, and a few others. I seldom watch the retro channels on TV now because it seems none of them have a full screen picture anymore, it's either widescreened or windowboxed and I don't watch that junk. Thankfully the DVD's I have are full screen formatted.
They should split the network like Nickelodeon, and show cartoons during the day and retro sitcoms at night.

Actually, the regular MeTV did do that with an episode of the Flintstones followed by an episode of the Honeymooners on Sunday nights in early 2020. The episodes usually had some kind of common theme to them.

space1999 05-02-2024, 08:44 PM Great news! I hope I get the channel as I have DISH. Hopefully it replaces Story Television in my affiliate area.
This was the natural progression after the success of Toon IN with ME and the Saturday Morning Cartoons. We finally have a new retro channel after the failures of Cartoon Network and Boomerang.
Johnny Quest and Speed Racer are classics! Hope we get Astro Boy and Gigantor as well.

24/7 reruns 05-03-2024, 08:07 PM My only concern is that this channel does what Cartoon Network and Boomerang did which was to reduce classic cartoons for other content.
This channel might start out showing a multitude of different cartoons but might settle into rating getting cartoons. There was a mention that the second half hour of MeTVs Bugs Bunny show on a Saturday gave them great ratings.
I can't imagine old UPA, Columbia, Start Your Day With a Song cartoons would gather such ratings so they may be shown rarely if at all after the channel gets established.
Maybe the streaming version will have the odd less ratings grabbing cartoons while the over the air one gives us more known offerings.

Just like what METV+ does with Sunday Night Cartoons, METV Toons can mix in a few UPA and Harveytoon shorts with the more popular theatrical toons. I'm already sort of expecting Scooby-Doo to become the MASH of METV Toons, with classic Looney Tunes being the 2nd most popular retro program on the channel. Just hoping they can nail the Saturday morning and afternoon schedule.

I can see the MeTV+ Sunday Night Cartoon approach possible as an overnight or Sunday Night offering. I'd like to see on weekdays a couple of hours of a reboot of what was the " Boomerang Zoo". There are certainly enough Cartoon animals available to show.
I heard that for some reason MeTV Toons will have Gerry Anderson's puppet programs, like The Thunderbirds and Supercar. My question is WHY?!?! I this must happen then at least show Time for Beany. Puppet shows are not cartoons.

24/7 reruns 05-31-2024, 08:34 PM The schedule is OK not great. Lots of filler like various Alf cartoons, Bible stories, Thunderbirds and the other puppet shows.

I wonder if the Sunday Night All-stars will be similar to MeTV+ Sunday cartoons.
Luckily this will be evolving and other things can be added over time.

Just judging off the Saturday morning schedule before 10:00am, they dont want METV toons competing with the Saturday morning block on the main METV network. I know the schedule is a work in progress, but METV Toons really needs a noon action cartoon block.

VisualSensation 06-20-2024, 12:26 PM The METV plus station in Milwaukee (49.5) which is owned by Weigel, is going to air METV toons starting the 25th and has already been turned into a "preview" channel for METV toons.
Has this happened to any other METV plus affiliates?
I checked all the websites and nothing has been updated, it would be a shame if METV plus is being shut down.
franciis 06-20-2024, 08:40 PM Cant wait to see cartoon (Josie & the Pussycats)..season 1 and season 2 -J & Pussycats in Outer Space.Wiki has Cheryl Ladd did the singing for one of the characters.Some1 else did the voice, but Ladd did the singing for that character.Kiddos at hair salons love watching cartoons.
Marcus2026 06-21-2024, 12:10 PM MeTV+ isn't shutting down, as the Milwaukee area will move it to another affiliate.
The Toon In with Me same-day repeats will move to MeTV Toons effective when the channel launches. To pad out that gap, the Comedy Classics block will expand with another hour.
franciis 06-24-2024, 04:35 AM Bought a Underdog coloring book in the 1960's.It will be nice hearing actor Wally Cox (teacher/Mister Peppers tv series, often (regular ?) on panel of long, long running Hollywood Squares (celebrities in squares),in movie (Spencers Mountain from creator of The Waltons) voice (as Underdog). Was Cox roomate to some super mega mega movie actor

I did a couple of days ago.
Right now, I'm currently watching the pre-launch loop.
For me, it's part of a pre-paid bundle. Hoping it goes to free tv at some point or a free Roku channel. I'm not paying for it.
24/7 reruns 06-25-2024, 01:57 PM Unfortunately for me MeTV Toons isn't listed on Verizon Fios in the NYC Metro area. I called both WJLP and Verizon both indicated that MeTV Toons wasn't available yet. So I bought into the cheapest plan for Frndly. So for $7.00 a month I'll get to watch all of these great cartoons. The nice thing with Frndly is that the repeat programs that had already aired live. I was able to watch cartoons from MeTV+ last Sunday Cartoon program. When I do choose to cancel Fios I'll have a great option with Frndly.
MikeLutton 06-25-2024, 02:04 PM i wish Comcast Xfinity would pick it up in the Pa Area
24/7 reruns 06-25-2024, 02:51 PM I just watched the Buzzy and Katnip cartoon "Hair Today". It seems like Buzzy's voice was done over. The original had him sounding like Rochester from Jack Benny. This voice was more neutral, less ethnic. I wonder if other cartoons will be altered in similar fashion. Also will cartoons that might seem offensive now be shown? There could be a set block of cartoons that might fit that category with disclaimers listed. Like how some Looney Tunes and Disney cartoons on DVD had a spoken intro explaining the possible offensive content before showing it.
Plus, The Smurfs should be on early in the morning rather than 10am eastern time.
24/7 reruns 06-30-2024, 07:42 AM So what's with the Greatest Adventures: Stories from the Bible? It's a Hanna Barbera offering. Did they feel guilty about all of the Flintstones Christmas shows?

FETV also airs some religious content during sunday mornings too. I guess some Retro tv channels want it.

I think you missed the joke. The Flintstones was set in B.C. - Before Christ. So how could there be Christmas themed episodes and specials with The Flintstones.
As for channels showing religious content. Most are basically infomercials in the sense that those programs pay the channel to run them.

Wally Cox had been a roommate of Marlon Brando and they remained close friends.

24/7 reruns 07-08-2024, 05:35 PM Too bad that many of the MGM Cinemascope cartoons are not shown in the right format. Some of the Mr. Magoo Cinemascope cartoons are shown in the proper format.
24/7 reruns 07-12-2024, 09:25 AM I found this website on Saturday morning cartoon schedules.
https://www.saturdaymorningsforever.com/2023/09/fall-saturday-morning-schedules.html
I would like to see MeTV Toons revive some of these schedules on Saturday mornings. I haven't looked through all of the schedules but I'm sure that some of the schedules from the '60's and '70's can be done with the content that MeTV Toons has access to.
