At my work place they were spring cleaning and ran cross a 12 pack of can Pepsi (12 oz) that had expired 3 years ago. Curiosity got the best of me to test it to see whether it is still taste Ok or not. After chilling it down and taking couple of sips, it did not taste too bad. The sweetness was reduced a bit, but still very bubbly and sharp.
One probably couldn't tell the difference drinking expired can of soda if they didn't know.

I wouldn;t make a habit of consuming old foods but don't make a habit of it and there are some foods that can be rancid and full of mold......Toss...

Don't know but eating a year old yogurt might be kind of pushing it. I eat alot of "plain" yogurt and they are usually good about couple of weeks after expiration date. After that they lose that "fresh cream" flavor. Grocery stores are usually very restrict on product's expiration date in their dairy food section.

One food item you don't have to worry about expiration date would be 'pure" honey as they last for years. They found a jar of honey that was buried with Egyptian mummies 3000 years ago and it was still edible.

I've always been told, you can still tell if it is good,
when you open it and it still fizzes.

I try not to make my yogurt go too long in the refrigerator. I opened up one after about 2 months and it had very baking soda taste and I threw out.

By any chance, do you have an open "baking soda" container in the refrigerator to absorb odors?

IDK ? I'm a little funny when it comes to expired food items. I avoid them with the exception of bagged fresh spinach or lettuce , if it still looks fresh, not too limp or soggy , I will still eat it after the expiration date .;)
