A world that has become so strange that CTV now considers this great series - which debuted in 2018 and will start its 6th season next month - as a throwback, to what I don't know, but it will still be good to watch the series for free.

Two pretty female roommates get into several misadventures and misunderstandings after a strange yet handsome man moves in with them.

Sticking with the Canadian theme, there is one homegrown series that originally debuted on CTV in 1971 that I wish they or someone else would pick up soon sometime this year. It is called "The Trouble With Tracy". Despite the fact that critics and viewers alike have called this series the worst Canadian sitcom of all time or just simply the worst sitcom ever from any country, I remember loving it as a child in first-run viewing and reruns before it simply vanished sometime during the mid-80s. I had given up hope of ever seeing it again but then, as often happens, someone on YouTube was kind (and brave) enough to offer up a few full episodes for free viewing that were thought to be lost. Here they are exactly the way they were seen in their original form.

Another great recent discovery happened after the death of the very funny Tommy Smothers, half of the great Smothers Brothers duo that hosted a classic and controversial variety series on CBS in the late 1960s. Before then, they starred in their own sitcom which lasted for one season in 1965. It was called "The Smothers Brothers Show" where Tom played an angel who was always interfering in his brother Dick's personal life. Again, only a few episodes have been made available for free online and hopefully more will follow soon (but not until I see more of "The Trouble With Tracy" again!)

I just wanted to let everyone know of a free streaming source that I rarely see talked about.

Cineverse (https://www.cineverse.com)

They aren’t as much of a streaming service for sitcoms even though they have some basics like Dragnet/The Lucy Show/Petticoat Junction/etc.

Though they really do have a lot of rare/older stuff from the early 2000s that I used to watch as a kid.

So far so I seen The FBI Files, The New Detectives, A Haunting, A Haunting In Connecticut, and much more.

I haven’t seen some of the stuff since they aired on TV on Discovery and other channels back in 2003-2006.

After doing some research, it looks like studios like New Dominion Pictures (one who did most of what I listed) and others are starting to open up their archives to these free ad-supported streaming services when before they were Broadcast/Cable or just locked away.

I’m so glad for these free services as it seems it’s allowing stuff that paid services or even TV networks would never care about, to see the light of day.

Both Philo & Fubo are making free streaming versions. Philo will offer a DVR while Fubo right now is only letting some expired trial/sun users in. They really both very similar to Sling FreeStream.

Hopefully they will have some exclusives eventually instead of only a clone of other services.

At this rate, I think more Internet bandwidth will be free services vs paid services.

For lovers of TV history, I have a couple of real gems for you. If you're a Johnny Carson fan, you can find clips and episodes of "The Tonight Show" just about anywhere. Those episodes are from the 1970s and 1980s and are located in Hollywood, where the show moved from New York in 1972. The episodes from New York are very rare to find, since most of them were thought to have been erased by NBC. I have found a few of them on YouTube recently including the super-rare episode where Tiny Tim marries Miss Vicki in 1969 that was one of the most-watched episodes in TV history. I think My Little Margie is public domain. Internet Archive and YouTube would be good place to search programs. Also I see that Tubi has a lot of old TV shows. Pluto as well.

You're correct. It was Monster Squad the I was thinking of. Very similar to The Hilarious House of Frightenstein

Plex has rather quietly added The Drew Carey Show, complete Season 1-9, and reported to be the first time ever streaming.

I tried myself & a fellow person and it won't let either of us "Borrow" or anything to Flo, it's like it's disabled with just a blank blue button instead of borrow.

You can access Hoopla from your own local library. You are allowed to borrow 5 titles per month. If you want to see your favorite shows, be warned that each episode counts as one title. So you have to think hard before you proceed, which I will now do with this week's new releases:

Same thing with me. The site doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure if this is temporary or permanent. For now, I've been trying to find other sites that might be just like it and this week I think I've stumbled onto a good one. It's from a website called Cy Tube and it's called Classic 60s TV. It's one continuous playlist of mainly 1960s sitcoms that you can access any time. You have to go down about halfway through in order to see it. Once you get there, you will see a video being played and the name of the episode highlighted. Using the scroll bar, you can move it up to watch previous videos or down to instantly watch future videos. When you see a line that says "Raw Video", it's a video of a classic commercial from the 1960s. Here's the link for you to try it and tell me what you think:

I don't think Antenna/Rewind are but MeTV & it's sisters are only paid services like Frendly & Philo.

If you like GET TV or GET Comedy, they are on Amazon Freevee/Prime Live Channels for free and Plex.

As far I can tell the GET is the same as broadcast and I think GET Comedy must be online only.

Oddly Sony doesn't seem to "broadcast" the fact that their channels are online even though they are a broadcast company lol.

This is actually how I think many OTA channels will end up.

I know some like ION Plus & Circle Country have already.

It seems like the OTA is getting as crowded as the streaming market with everyone making way too many subchannels, mainly so station groups don't have to host third-parties and then get to keep all ad revenue.

Also the way they are screwing up the Next Gen or ATSC 3.0 Standard in the US is not helping at all and looks ready to implode or collapse due to patent lawsuits and DRM.

So I wouldn't be shocked if one day major ones like MeTV, Antenna TV, etc, pop up on streaming.

It worked yesterday when I was there. That's the way these channels are. Even the best ones are not 100% reliable. Here's another link I found to the same channel.

This is actually how I think many OTA channels will end up.

I know some like ION Plus & Circle Country have already.

It seems like the OTA is getting as crowded as the streaming market with everyone making way too many subchannels, mainly so station groups don't have to host third-parties and then get to keep all ad revenue.

Also the way they are screwing up the Next Gen or ATSC 3.0 Standard in the US is not helping at all and looks ready to implode or collapse due to patent lawsuits and DRM.

So I wouldn't be shocked if one day major ones like MeTV, Antenna TV, etc, pop up on streaming.

we thought tv 25 on the go had antenna tv channel..now we cant get tv 25..which channel has heroes & icons channel ? what channels does tv 25 and wbqc have ?

It would be nice if some ppl still offered WMV streaming for those of us that either cant or dont wanna watch thru youtube or whatever!

I used to be able to watch HBO ONLINE thru WMP (I have Windows media player 9)

Its sad they assume/force everyone has this newer stuff :(

This is an independent group that is in charge of channels like CHCH, Silver Screen Classics, and Rewind, all of which will be featured live and on-demand on this new service which will be called "Parrot TV". I can only hope this new service won't be for the birds because, so far, I have seen very little information about it except that, for starters, it will have at least 30 live TV channels and plenty more on demand. I just hope that one day, NBC will open up some of their rarer stuff like American Greed (first 8 seasons) & Caught on Camera.

They have stuff that they won’t put on Peacock, XUMO, or any other service it seems.

NBC & Disney must have been very reluctant to do AVOD Streaming because it's only now that both a noun that their content will be on services like Roku/Tubi/Pluto. CBS & Fox dived in the free streaming arena years ago. (Yes, NBC had XUMO but they don't do much with it).

I have decided last May that I will never watch any movies or TV shows with uppercase-only closed-captioning again. I'm just not comfortable with all-caps CC anymore. It's baffling that certain distributors are unwilling to do all-caps to lowercase conversions for the old programs they own (like, for example, Sony with Diff'rent Strokes, and CBS/Paramount with Family Ties and the original Hawaii Five-O) while other distributors' old programs already have had their CC changed to mixed-case. If I see any scripted programs on an SVoD site like The Roku Channel, Pluto TV or Tubi retaining the capitals-only CC from NCI-CAP or VITAC, I will report it immediately, period! Simply turning off the CC won't be enough. If a program listed on this thread comes with capitals-only CC and has not been converted to mixed-case already, maybe don't bother listing that program at all on this thread in the future. Some other Sitcoms Online member will have to check and see which CC letter-case a show has with every weekly or bi-weekly list going forward.

Maybe you can adjust the font from your TV. My TV gives me options on size, font style, all caps, or upper/lower case letters

Those adjustments you are talking about are only going to work on the programs who already have mixed-case closed-captioning, and not those who retain old NCI/VITAC all-caps captioning, because on the latter, it's going to stay the same no matter how you make those adjustments on your TV. This is exactly why it's better for those programs to get new mixed-case closed captions from scratch, and I will never again trust ANY distributor who refuses or is unwilling to get new lowercase CC for their own classic programming.

I just hope that one day, NBC will open up some of their rarer stuff like American Greed (first 8 seasons) & Caught on Camera.

They have stuff that they won’t put on Peacock, XUMO, or any other service it seems.

NBC & Disney must have been very reluctant to do AVOD Streaming because it's only now that both a noun that their content will be on services like Roku/Tubi/Pluto. CBS & Fox dived in the free streaming arena years ago. (Yes, NBC had XUMO but they don't do much with it).

Yes I would love to see Toma, Baretta and House Calls from NBCUniversal hit streaming.

The entire series is "remastered", so why not bother to remaster the closed-captioning as well (provided they're from the original broadcasts, which are like 25-30 years ago)? If you're not going to do such a conversion for that series, then don't bother making it available on any SVoD platforms at all.

I TOTALLY AGREE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY. THIS CANNOT GO ON FOR MUCH LONGER.

I will never go back to all-caps CC again, now will I watch any program whose CC is done by the National Captioning Institute or VITAC. The all-caps captioning style (formerly) used by both of those companies needs to just die and drown in a sea of hellfire for all I care.

That is what I was wondering.

I'm so used to when shows had no subs online.

I'm luckily not bad with hearing but I seem to occasionally have issues with dialogue especially when there is background noise, like applause or laughter so it's nice to verify what they said.

Yet I've seen CC use different or totally wrong words at times, so it's a gamble.

These holdouts are the exact reason why I've soured on uppercase-only closed captioning on scripted programming. Also, most theatrical movies will have their CC in mixed-case on SVoD platforms, but I periodically get disappointed about Warner Bros. movies (including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films released before the mid-1980s) continuing to be stuck with their old all-capitals CC on those same SVoD services. WB has really fallen behind compared to other major studios in converting the CC of their best old films from all-caps to sentence-case. And there are also other non-WB holdouts on Tubi and The Roku Channel, etc. who preserve their decades-old caps-only CC. It mainly depends on the company distributing those films. Wow this thread has taken a turn. You're obviously very passionate abut this issue and that's fine. But your suggestions to not post links or remove them from the SVoD platforms seem a bit ridiculous to me. I'm in a wheelchair and there are some places where the wheelchair accessibility isn't set up quite like how I'd prefer. I don't demand they close and ruin it for everyone else though!

Just a suggestion to maybe make this it's own thread? Then those of us who enjoy Sal's links and want to discuss those can do that and those who are passionate about CC like yourself can discuss that.
