I guess I am!! But, N@N officially sucks now with their bad line-up. Im more of a TVland girl (if I GOT TVland)
I hope to give you and this board light to your dark ages minds. Be thankful Im here, I will deliver you all.
Ill pass. Just because I like 50s-80's, doesnt mean I dont watch Will & Grace, Everybody Loves Raymond, Conan, etc.
People like the 50s-80's because people like the past when it was simpler times! Well, atleast thats how I feel.
And, NO, Im not mad. Im expressing my feelings too.

Nah, I like 1956. But seriously, I dont come here to talk about Happy Days and what not. If I want to talk about Fonzie and Tootie, I can go to their forums, not the chitchat. What I like is what I like, and like I said, I do watch current shows- but its more fun to talk about Tooties roller-skates than to discuss Rachels baby on Friends.

Agreed! Although Im starting to get hooked on W&G, but I never liked Friends. That doesn't mean I can't watch stuff from then.
Ditto.;)
Id rather spend my day watching a 70's sitcom marathon than to watch NBC Must See Thursday.

Because the basic point of this website is to talk about sitcoms from all generations, and most people here prefer 80's or 70's shows, etc. to Current ones.

Crimson and Clover 09-16-2002, 09:29 PM what does it matter. if someone wants to watch shows from the 50s-80s then more power to 'em. i like the older shows a lot better then the new stuff.
Mr. Shy Guy 09-16-2002, 09:32 PM Actully I guess I watch currents shows now as much as older shows. I think that the older shows do have better quality and since the show itself is over, people are more interested in where are they now and perhaps since that these shows were current at one point, there are the grown-up fans and then there are the newer fans. I think that in 20-30 years, perhaps the current boards for us may be busier then cause there would be us and the new peoples. I don't know. I'm not even sure what I said.

Titania 09-16-2002, 09:36 PM With all due respect......maybe its cause most newer shows are crap!!! Now I know you're going to reply telling me you expected everyone to get all p/oed at you- these are just my opinions, as simply as you posted yours.
I just read your attention thing....is this the way you get attention? In that case you're definitly seeking a different sort of attention than I am. Its pretty sick that you have this idea that you have to be like that.
Why does it matter to you if we are stuck back in the 60s? or the 50s.. or the 30s for that matter. Honestly I dont care for much about the current media and culture- Id much rather be back in another time, is there anything wrong with that? Have you looked at the news lately? The world is going to hell- thats why some of us need to sit back and watch our good old sitcoms and keep ourselves from losing our sanity entirely.
If you dont like our old shows then why dont you keep watching sex in the city and leave us alone. Better yet, if this board offends you so much no ones forcing you to stay.

What's the big deal with "Friends"?? My big problem with that show is that ALL of them are the same geeky, dippy characters, none of them are a "straight" character (in the sense of being the "normal" character to add contrast). Of course I haven't really seen too many episodes for the past few seasons, so...

As for you enlightening me? No thanks. I'm a big girl who can make up her own mind as to what she does or does not like.
And, just FYI (though I owe you no explanation whatsoever), I was born in the 50s. I grew up in the 60s and 70s. I was a young adult newly out in the working world in the late 70s and into the 80s. These are the shows that I know; these are the shows that I like.
The more recent ones rarely impress me. They are too brash and too "cool" for my taste. They are frequently angry, unkind, selfish. And they don't seem to me to be saying much of anything.
Yeah, I guess I do like the dark ages of TV. It was simpler, and... FUNNY! Imagine that!

I agree with what everyone has been saying so far. I like what I like..dont agree with it? Then too bad and get over it. I agree old sitcoms are SO much better than half the ones are right now. I seriously ask myself if they are even putting EFFORT into the new sitcoms. Most dont make a season. Let alone a month. Ohh..and MistyEyes..I like your avatar!!!:D
Kristina 09-17-2002, 12:56 AM I'm sorry we can't all have your tastes and your opinions. People like different things, I like new shows but new sitcoms make me wanna kick the glass out of my TV screen. "I Love Lucy" is my fav sitcom, is there something wrong with that?

Then again, tvland is dropping Batman's 3 p.m timeslot and only show it at 4 a.m. :smash: :smash:
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 09-17-2002, 01:37 AM WAY offtopic:, but this is seriously bugging me! Anyways, I posted it in the Sitcoms Forum, but Im impatient! lolol;)
Anyways, I have this guy, pictured in my head he looks like a cross between Joe Pesci and Danny DeVito=short, bald but with brown hair, and chubby. I picture him on a show either in the late 80's-90's. OMG!! I can picture him now..it looks like he's in an office or something!!
Sean Snow 09-17-2002, 07:11 PM I like old sitcoms because . . . I like them. It's my opinion, and you have yours, they don't have to agree becasue they are opinions and opinions aren't always meant to agree. I don't need any enlightenment. I'm not living in the '70s or '80s. Just because a person enjoys a show from that era doesn't mean they're stuck in it. I think that shows today just don't stack up as well to the older shows.

Because most of todays shows suck.
Seriously though, I guess I prefer the older shows because they came out in a time before I was born, a time that seemed like a lot of fun, a time I wouldn't have minded being a part of. It's hard to explain but I guess it's similar to the way the younger people on this board enjoy shows like Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes.

Nick at Nite makes me mad. Their line up is ridiculous. It seems like all they show is Cheers, The Cosby Show..... and I can't even think of anything else. All the other really good shows...All in the Family, Family Ties, and Three's Company all deserve better time slots. I mean, they're on in like 1, 2, 3 in the morning! Who's gonna watch it then??

Hollow 09-17-2002, 10:43 PM Ok from what i said i didnt mean that u cant watch old shows, i watch em sometimes too, i was just sayin that i dont understand why every1s posting 7375846 times on a board about a show thats OVER WITH. There should be more to talk about on boards for new shows, seriously
Notorious 09-17-2002, 10:46 PM I think old shows appeal to young kids, cuz most are more immature like: Gilligan's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies. I think I've just grown out of most old shows I used to like. That's my opinion.
Um, slut, I like my shows because I like them. I'd rather have a 15 minute clip of Lucy than a 40 hour marathon of Friends. I'd rather die watching "Temperatures Rising" than live watching "Frasier." (well, I know that I'm never gonna see Temperature's Rising, so I don't have to worry about anything, lol). The older shows have more posts because of the nostalgic of it all. "where are they now?" "Hey I grew up with this show!" "How about a round of trivia?" "When can this geton TVLand?" I mean, you can watch old shows two times a day, but new shows once a week (well, the non-syndie ones). With old shows, you are constantly learning new information, but with new shows, you aren't surprised.

I disagree with that- yes, older shows are more kid-friendly but can you ever outgrow quality?
The old shows show more values and less sleeze, more plain old slapstick and less vulgar jokes.
Just my thoughts....

°Bubbly Blonde° 09-18-2002, 09:15 PM I think everyone's entitled to their opinions.....but I dont see what's the obsession with old shows either. I think all the people should get mad, she did say that she's not trying to fight, and that she doesn't care if you take it the wrong way, that it's you, or something. I love Sex and the City and Friends and the Real World.......but if someone's vibe is the Facts of Life, Beverly Hillbillies, or I Love Lucy, then that's just wat they like....
MBFTfan 09-18-2002, 09:18 PM Here is my reasoning: Newer shows come up more in general conversation, especially with young people, because you can assume they have heard of "Friends" or "Will and Grace" but you can't assume they've heard of "Bewitched" or "I Love Lucy." Many of these old shows are no longer on the air, even in syndication and this is one of the few places to keep them alive and actively discuss them. Newer shows, on the other hand, don't need this because they are still on and fresh in peoples' minds. I think fans of older shows are more devoted as well because many have known the show since its original run, and for younger people, its a way of learning about the past through pop culture and a feeling of nostalgia. Its nice to come to these boards and realize that you are not the only fan left of a TV show from 30 years ago. Still, I agree that more people should post on the boards for the new shows, and those of you who are already active there, keep it up.:) I personally prefer old shows in general, but there are many new shows that I love as well. I think people who refuse to watch a show because of the time period in which it was made need to open up their minds a little bit. Whether a show was made in 1962 or 2002, it should be given a fair chance, because like good literature and good music, a truly good TV show transcends all eras and generations.

Oh, and to stay on topic, I agree with everyone else about the old shows. They have better quality and are more fun to talk about. I'm getting so sick of hearing about Rachel and her baby on Friends.:sleep2:

YOU may know what "slut" means, but evidently you don't know how to spell prostitute. I think YOU'RE the one who needs to check out dictionary.com:rolleyes: If you're going to insult someone, at least spell it right!!!!

Krystal Lake 09-19-2002, 12:08 AM Because old sitcoms weren't drowned out with obnoxious laugh tracks every friggin' 5 seconds. They had a LIVE audience that laughed when things were really funny. The producers didn't have to put in a laugh track to tell you when a joke was made.
Plus, people are into nostalgia. I know I am. It brings me back to my youth when I can watch an old sitcom and think to myself "Hey, I remember watching that as a kid. But now I understand it on a completely different level!"
Go watch Three's Company and tell me that it was not a very dirty show filled with tons of sexual innuendo. Sometimes innuendo is much funnier than coming out and saying exactly what is meant. Today, the innuendo is gone and they just spurt it out. I find subtle humor is the best.
Watch All in the Family. There is NO way they can get away with some of the stuff Archie would say now. No way. People are too into "political correctness" that we can't joke and poke fun at sensitive issues. (Some shows excluded.) Same with The Jeffersons.
It's the change in the society. I am one to agree that back then was the "good old days" for television and media.
As for the fighting in this thread: Settle down now, guys. I am not a moderator (obviously) but I *do* moderate three boards. To fight back with someone like..you know who.. only gives them fuel to their fire. It gives them the satisfaction. Look at other stuff they posted. They obviously are looking to start trouble here. We call that "trolling" and the best way to get a troll to knock it off is to ignore them, or if you have a serious problem with their post, click on the "report post to moderator" button at the bottom right of their post. It will get dealt with.
Mods, if I am out of line let me know. Just speaking through my experience with dealing with message boards and members. I don't know your guys' rules on dealing with problematic posters. So, forgive me if I am wrong in posting this last paragraph.
Thanks.

If I were JT, I'd take great offense to that. But, I'm me, and I am just gonna laugh at that, cuz it's a funny joke. I like a lot of ABC and NBC shows, though. I only like, about, 2 or 3 WB shows...

Arfies 10-08-2002, 04:13 PM I'm a teen and really into "old" stuff. I'm not into mainstream at all- it's too manufactured. And by no means am I the only one who feels the same way.
Bewitched is my All-Time Favorite Show because it's REALLY GOOD, not just because it's from the 1960s. And I'm also crazy about Gilmore Girls. Yet again, not because it's modern, but because it's funny, dramatic, and GREAT!
Liking a show simply because it's new or old is ridiculous. But hey, to quote a friend of mine, "Whatever floats your boat and tickles your pickle!"
Really good shows are the ones that withstand the test of time, and newer shows haven't yet had a few decades on them to prove that..... and by then, they will be considered old. With the attitude of some posters on this board who are against all that is vintage, the new shows won't have any fans left. And what will be considered "the best" then? It's all in the eye of the beholder.
But the open-minded will always find means of enjoyment.
Fan of old shows 10-08-2002, 04:50 PM Old shows appeal to me. probably cuz they arent current and when a character sez something, you can look back and say, o yes that was around the time when this happend. and as for people posting on the older shows, maybe its cuz theres more to discuss like, things recently that happend to a star. perhaps the same will be be for the now current sitcoms one day.
britt britt 10-10-2002, 08:35 PM old shows rock, new shows suck! well most of them! :)
