View Full Version : What show isn't aging well for you?
BobbyStBlues 11-23-2023, 01:36 PM What's a show you liked at one time, maybe even a lot, but as the years go on you find it harder and harder to rewatch and might even dislike? Why? Maybe the writing is not good rewatching it today, or it doesn't connect with you anymore, any reason.
icecream 11-23-2023, 02:12 PM I liked Full House and Mr. Bean when I was a lot younger, not anymore. I used to watch Dharma and Greg, but had enough of Jenna Elfman. I was a fan of Everybody Hates Chris the first few seasons, but lost interest. I really liked Covert Affairs for awhile (Piper Perabo's drama on USA), but eventually dropped it. Person of Interest was really good its first two seasons, but not so much when Shaw took over.
stevea 11-23-2023, 02:30 PM There will be disagreement on this, but I really used to like All in the Family, but it's so far removed now, and is so dated, I really don't watch it anymore.
I did come across an episode I stuck with on Sunday night, though. Where a guy wanted Edith to do a TV commercial; I only vaguely remembered it.

70s show watcher 11-23-2023, 04:07 PM family ties i still watch it once in awhile on pluto tv for old times sake but for the most part it seems really dated and the rriting us spotty at best also i liked webester when at aired but now i cant stand anything about it
king of comedy 11-23-2023, 06:02 PM The Cosby Show I don't watch it anymore not only because of Cosby himself but it was really sexist towards men. Another one is Welcome Back Kotter. It was cringey and painful to watch now.

I agree.....I wanna see the original/unedited shows!
DEH55 11-24-2023, 01:27 PM Three's Company is terrible. Watching Roper making fun of gay people is really cringe. Sexist etc

Many people make fun of the 50s shows, but there was none of that on those shows.
Therefore I think some of them, like Leave it to Beaver, aged better than later shows.
Coffeecup 11-24-2023, 04:04 PM I think as time goes by and as one gets older, you see them differently. Charlie's Angels was a show I liked when it first aired but saw it a few years ago and it didn't have the same interest for me
rusty spike 11-24-2023, 09:54 PM Here's a weird one. I used to watch NBC Real People when it first came out in the early 1980s. Somewhere, I tried streaming it and lost interest real quick (pun intended!). Gosh, I gave it another go as background while doing something else and it really annoyed me to the point where I had to turn it off.
Sometimes the saying "you can't go home again" is true.

Your'e not alone. I used to watch that show too. Looking back now, it looks really bad.
Charles Knox 01-17-2024, 11:10 PM Probably nearly every TGIF show I watched when I was a kid. Some shows like Step By Step I can tolerate, but the others I can live without. I could never get into All In The Family and a lot of the other Norman Lear shows.
gidgetgrape 01-17-2024, 11:43 PM For me, it's the sarcastic, meanish shows I watched when I was a teenager like "Roseanne," "Married with Children" and "Seinfeld." I don't relate to that kind of show anymore.
I wish there was a button you could push to erase characters from shows. Like I would like to watch The Cosby Show without the parents and Designing Women without Julia Sugarbaker.

stevea 01-18-2024, 10:38 AM There's a lot of arguing over 70s politics and we're talking 50+ years ago. And I've seen them all many times. I do see it sometimes on Sunday nights.
Yong Fang 01-29-2024, 08:56 AM From the shows mentioned.
Agree about Family Ties. If you use Search on this website there is a somewhat similar thread of shows that didn’t age well/hit shows in their time which aren’t shown anymore and Family Ties was most of the conversation. It was a good show for the era but it is just lost in translation now.
Never liked Married with Children and I was in my early 20’s and a college student when this show was first on. The show to me was depressing and the characters were all so pathetic. A poor schlep working an awful, demeaning job (at a mall women’s shoe store) making little money with a harpie wife who refused to work or help who spent all the little bit of money he made, to the loser son and the cheap daughter who was as bad as her mother, plus the psychotic neighbor and her he packed loser first husband and goofy second husband. This crap was on for a decade.
I never liked Three’s Company either, mostly because I just found the show dumb. For those of you who don’t like so called “homophobic” humor, this show was full of it since Jack has to pretend he was gay to live with his two female roommates, in Southern California in the late 1970’s. In real life the landlord wouldn’t care as long as the rent was paid on time. I will say I liked Norman Fell.
I love All in the Family and still watch it after 50 years of it being on, on YouTube. I did hate the “Edith’s 50th Birthday” episode, to me this was way over the line but I have mentioned this before on here several times. Was never a Jefferson’s fan however, although it did have one of the best theme songs ever.

That's a great idea!
