View Full Version : Things I used to hate hearing from adults when I was a kid
TheLittleFaerie 09-30-2023, 11:41 PM I always hated it when an adult wouldn't even entertain a hypothetical situation I was curious about.... I always had the question, "If a red bird mated with a blue bird would they produce a purple bird?" I asked this to a teacher and she was like, "They wouldn't ever mate" and when I would say, "But just WHAT IF...." and she cut me off and was like, "They WOULDN'T!"
Or when I would ask an adult WHY I had to do something and they would respond, "Cuz I SAID so!" What a cop out answer!
Anyone else relate or have others?

I mean you have have a "mind of your own" but still get annoyed when you're curious about something and someone gives you an bs answer when you have a hypothetical

How about stop being a rude little sh*t
Bonniegirl 10-01-2023, 04:06 PM I absolutely hated at the end of summer when grown ups would say " Are you happy to be going back to school" ?
Uh yeah, getting up early , sitting at a desk all day , nuns and teachers being mean, having to do homework! :(
Yeah , that is much better than getting up whenever you want to, going to bed later, playing, swimming, getting icecream, waiting for the Good Humor truck to come ! ( sarcasm) :D
Duh! I always thought what a stupid question !
Caroline13 10-01-2023, 04:10 PM I didn't hate it, but I guess it bothered me. Mom would say "wait till your father gets home"..
My father didn't spare the belt with his oldest child: Me..
His son was a favorite and got a lot of dad's attention and my sister the 3rd child was dad's final favorite... no belts no rods -- none of those...
TheLittleFaerie 10-01-2023, 05:52 PM I also despised hearing, "You'll grow out of this!", or "As you get older you'll find those things won't mean as much to you any more" That is so dismissive and invalidating to whatever thing I was experiencing

Caroline13 10-01-2023, 08:38 PM other things that went on in my life was parents and grandparents would speak in their european tongues when they didn't want us to know what they were saying.

I can remember my grandparents loved this phrase. Must have been popular with the 1800s set.

Oh, sure, I got annoyed but I didn't really care what they thought I should do. I rolled my eyes a lot. :D

Dude111 10-03-2023, 01:10 AM Children should be seen and not heard.Edmund said that in The Beniker gang! (1984)
Well he said "Whoever said Children should be seen and not heard should not have been heard themselves" (He was reading Lola's column)

biffbronson 10-03-2023, 03:41 PM When I didn't want certain foods at dinner, I would say to my mom in Greek, "I don't want to eat it."
She always replied "You WILL eat it" (also in Greek of course).
This went on frequently and annoyed the rest of the family. So the "You WILL" is what I hated hearing.

The only thing I wouldn't eat and still won't is liver but mom didn't make that very often and we never had to eat it!
I don't believe in making kids eat what I know they don't like. :)

My sister, who hated peas, would hide them under her plate until my parents caught on. To this day she still hates peas!
Dude111 10-04-2023, 04:55 PM Ya I hate them also!! (I did try pea soup one time)

Usually the main dish was the problem. That's not something you can hide. At age 8 or so, I wasn't ready for cod fish baked in spinach or green peppers stuffed with rice & beef.
Way back when my dad was in WWII, some of the meat was so bad that he secretly wrapped some and put it in his pockets, throwing it away later.
Dude111 10-11-2023, 03:22 PM I guess I dont blame him for that....
Yong Fang 10-12-2023, 01:01 PM I also as a child until I graduated college absolutely loathed school. I dare say about 80 percent of what they teach is absolutely worthless in everyday life, especially high school. Then being forced to learn this crap or else you get a bad grade and are in trouble with your parents.

Yep. I hated that too! ;)
