View Full Version : Two characters, one actor...
jayman75 09-03-2002, 11:31 AM I just noticed while watching some of the last two seasons...
The man who played piano at the Rusty Anchor when Dorothy sang was also the man in charge of Rose and Myles doing their skydive.
I'm sure there were other actors who reappeared on the show. Anyone help me out?
Dianne3 09-03-2002, 12:31 PM When I first saw this post, I thought it was another two characters, one actor you were talking about. This one I just noticed recently.
I saw Fiddler on the Roof, for the first time in a long time. That is the episode where Sophia buys a boxer. The actor who played that boxer is the same actor who appeared as Enrique (sp) Moss,
Rose's boss, when she went to work testing consumer products.

Sophia's husband, Sal is played by the same guy as Don, Dorothy and her date's "Fool for the evening" at that resturaunt (It's the one where the guy who stood Dorothy up for prom comes back, I can't remember the guy's name right now.)
Kristen
jayman75 09-04-2002, 05:00 PM I've never noticed that one, Kristen...
We can't forget Harold Gould, who played Myles Webber and Arnie, a date Rose went out with early in the series. So, he counts too!!
Also, in one of the "memory" episodes, there is a hair dresser who makes Blanche, Rose and Dorothy look like ugly poodles. He is the same guy who played the soap actor that visited Miami and "acted" with the girls, plus others in the play.
There seems to be a lot of repeat performers on this show...
80sTrivia 09-04-2002, 08:04 PM The actor that portrayed Kid Pepe, the boxer that Sophia "bought" also portrayed Rose's boss Enrique Mas. The actress that played mean-old Frida Klaxton, the nasty neighbour who didn't care if the tree was cut down in her yard, also played Philhamena, who thought that she was Dorothy's mother in the "switched-at-birth" episode. The same actress also played Sophia's friend who wanted to commit suicide and the elderly lady on the run that Rose befriended at the bus station on her way home to St. Olaf on Mother's Day. There are more that I'm sure I will think of later!!! :)
jayman75 10-18-2002, 01:25 PM I caught another one today...
There was a flashback episode that told a story of Rose placing a "work" ad for Dorothy in the Personals column. One of the first respondants was Toto ("Oh, no mister -- just Toto. You're Dorothy, and I'm Toto" :))
Well, he also appeared in an episode that aired today -- I think as a repairman or surveyor. I was just waking up when it came on, so I don't know exactly. I'm in the process of taping episodes, so I'll rewatch and post.
Dianne3 10-18-2002, 02:29 PM I caught another one last week, but knowing just internet basics, didn't know how to bring this thread up.
In one of the very last episodes of the series, Dorothy gets a job by a former student as a motivational speaker.
There is a chinese actor in that episode, the same actor who played the doctor who diagnosed Dorothy with chronic fatigue.
GoldenGuy 10-21-2002, 01:05 PM I have two more.
Bill Dana, the actor who played Angelo, played Sophia's father in the valentines day episode.
Also this one isn't so obvious. One of the three men from the Vacation episode, where they the 3 girls get stranded with them. The blond one, was also Dorthy's old student in Rose: Portrait of a Woman.

Good call! I knew he appeared in something else...
jayman75 11-07-2002, 06:51 PM I caught another one...
The man who played "Toto" when Dorothy was looking for a job also played the plumber in the episode where Dorothy and Rose install the toilet.
I guess that if you guest starred on the show once, you were automatically invited back for a second role!:p  :p
shocolah 11-07-2002, 11:28 PM Bea played two characters once...her grandmother in a wheelchair and of course, Dorothy. :)
shocolah 11-08-2002, 09:46 AM The guy who played Blanche's husband George in her dream also played his brother Jamie.
Dianne3 11-14-2002, 01:20 PM In the episode where Rose has to give a eulogy and is afraid of public speaking, so Blanche and Dorothy go with her on an airplane to the Bahamas, there is an older stewardess.
That actress is the same actress who played the mother of Jerry ? Kennedy, Blanche's date who lived with his mother.
Adam the Great 11-16-2002, 01:46 AM Actor Paul Dooley playes Isaac, Q. Newton in the episode "Love Rose", then he plays Geroge Corliss in the episode "Empty Nests".
Dianne3 11-21-2002, 02:37 PM The actress I posted about two post ago, I saw her again.
Her biggest role was when she played the mother of Blanche's date who lived with his mother. That was in year 7.
The other two episodes are from year 3.
In the episode with the overweight Rebecca, Sophia & her coworkers confront their teenage boss. This actress, Meg Wylie, was one of Sophia's coworkers. And not long before that episode, she played a stewardess.
Dianne3 12-09-2002, 04:02 PM In the Christmas episode, where towards the end, the girls end up in a diner, the man who was working there, is the same actor that Rose befriends in the homeless shelter, in the episode where the girls go to retreive a lottery ticket.

Also in the "switched at birth" episode...
The man who was Dorothy's "father" was the man who was going to remodel the garage -- from his wheelchair.
Man, you get a job on TGG, and you're guaranteed a return visit!!!
;)
jayman75 02-27-2003, 03:43 PM Another one I just found was...
in the Christmas episode where the girls are stuck in Miami after the Santa Claus held them up...
That was the same guy who played Paul in the "Beatlemania" episode. The one who Dorothy fell in love with...
IamGGFan 06-04-2003, 09:34 PM Wow!!!!!!!!!!! I need to study this more. I haven't noticed all this, I can't believe Bea played two roles once. LOL and I can't believe the actor who played Blanche's husband in one episode played her brother-in-law on another episode. This is very shocking news. I don't pay much attention to the guest stars, but I need to do that more now.
LOL Thanks for the information.:happyface :talk:
jayman75 07-11-2003, 09:49 PM Caught this one tonight...
In the "Mother's Day" episode, Rose remembers being in a train station and meeting a woman going to see her daughter -- who had died. The woman had escaped from her retirement home, and the police were after her. Rose helped her by pretending to me her daughter.
That woman was the same one who played Sophia's friend that wanted to kill herself.
jayman75 07-31-2003, 11:58 AM Found ANOTHER one...
The big black man who was "Michael Jackson's" bodyguard in the "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime" episode...
... also was an act in the charity episode that Bob Hope appeared in. The guy sang "Puff the Magic Dragon"
RoseNylund 08-04-2003, 02:02 PM I have one for you...when the girls get stranded on the island with the three guys. The goofier one also appears as Dorothy's ex student who hires her as a consultant for his video game company.
ConservativeBalla 08-05-2003, 10:17 AM Uh, you guys are kinda starting to restate.
Anyways, another one is:
The plumber that was going to install their toilet, ("Lou" was his name) is also "Mr. Haha", that clown that Rose signed Dorothy up to go to his party.
jayman75 08-17-2003, 09:58 PM Yeah, we've had some repeats, but this is new (I think)...
The guy who played the doctor in the "Empty Nest" spin-off attempt (with Rita Moreno)... was Isaac Newton, the guy Rose invited to the dance (they supposedly had sent letters back and forth, but Dorothy and Blanche created him).
jayman75 08-17-2003, 10:00 PM and...
the black man Rose talks to in the homeless shelter...
... is the same man who ran the diner the girls were in on Christmas Eve.
The Lifetime boards have a lot of these recycles too...
DRPLM 01-06-2005, 02:45 PM Here is another one.
The woman that was after rose for dating her husband was one of the employees at the "Chow Wagon" with sophia. She was also Gerald's mother, the news guy that Blanche dated.
