I know that this is an extremely morbid topic but I thought about this after recently watching the "Ad Man Micelli" (https://poddtoppen.se/podcast/1528039547/ay-oh-oh-ay-the-whos-the-boss-podcast/ad-man-micelli) episode from the second season, when Sam's friends at her slumber party see a photo of her late mother in a locket.
Of course, we know that Sam's mom (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/MissingMom/LiveActionTV) is already deceased at the start of the series. But I don't think that we're ever told about the full circumstances behind her death. Maybe, they didn't want to delve too deeply into that because that's a pretty dark subject matter. And a lot (https://www.cracked.com/blog/why-every-80s-sitcom-decided-to-kill-off-mom) of '80s sitcoms had this weird trend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9m_Vy9kIf0&pp=ygUUODBzIHNpdGNvbXMgZGVhZCBtb20%3D) of killing the mothers off.
