Pavan 08-28-2002, 12:37 PM Sun-Thurs 11:59pm e/p starting Monday September 30th on TV Land. The Jeffersons will air right after it at 12:30am.
Remember All in the Family will air on Nick @ Nite in September and October at 11 and 11:30pm e/p Sun-Thurs. So AITF/ABP is sort of back-to-back.

I heard that the "Edith's death" episode is no longer in syndication. Is that true?

Why would you want to see a episode that is depressing? Comedies are supposed to be fun to watch not looking at a episode when someone die in their sleep. I think that may be the reason why that episode is not in syndication.

I don't think TV LAND should show it-that episode doesn't make the show a comedy-more like a drama-I think TV LAND should really think twice about showing that type of episode.

Lots of their comedies have had serious episodes. I'm looking forward to the Edith's Death episode because it's a major landmark in the AITF/ABP series. I hear it's very well acted, I can't wait till TV Land airsi t.

The producers of the show never tried to make this show a comedy farce; if anything, it was a dramedy. Furthermore, TVLand shows dramas, why not show this episode? Why shouldn't they show it? Because it's a powerful hour of television? You're right, how dare they air a powerful hour of television...
Brian 09-04-2002, 06:58 PM There is an Archie Bunker's Place board, so I'm moving this thread over there (sorry Pavanbadal). Please discuss ABP topics on that board. Thank you.

That's why I want to see it. I don't care how sad or depressing it is. I enjoy a good cry. That's what I like best about All in the Family, and what I will like about this episode too. It can make you laugh one episode and cry your eyes out in the next episode.
I can't wait to see it.

I posted it there before too, I thought it would be better to have both boards have the topic...

Dan Asnis 09-05-2002, 12:11 AM "Archie Alone" (Edith's Death) in 2 part format was in the Archie Bunker's Place syndications package when ABP last aired on UPN 57 (WPSG) in Philadelphia on and off between 1998 and 2000. I personally saw it aired twice on UPN 57 once in the fall of 1998 and again in the spring of 1999. It probably aired a third time on UPN 57 in the summer of 2000. I don’t think it has been dropped from the ABP package.

I don't think it has either. The death episode answers questions. If it was dropped from syndication, viewers would wonder where Edith went. The death episode has to play so viewers know that Edith died. It won't be a pretty episode to watch. I bet it will be tragic and odd to watch.
Flash72 09-05-2002, 01:40 AM To the poster that said that they would not watch the Archie Bunker's Place episode "Archie Alone," let me say that while I respect your opinion I do not agree with it. Having seen this one
numerous times I can say that it is definitely not a typical sitcom episode and one that is funny one moment and heartwrenching the next but poignant through out. I am sure that viewers by now
are intelligent and sophisticated enough to watch and dare I say enjoy episodes that mix comedy and drama. If the network were not to air the episode based soley on your type of logic than episodes of All in the Family such as "Archie is Branded," "Edith's 50th Birthday," "Edith's Crisis of Faith," and "Draft Dodger" should not be shown nor should other similar "serious" episodes of countless tv series. ABP had many more non laugh a minute stories such as the time Stephanie's temple is bombed and some television series seemingly juxtaposed the themes of comedy and drama such as "MASH" and all the time remained entertaining.
Whether we choose to address the issue or not the fact is that we all must face death some day and for those series that depict life somewhat realistically such as "All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place" by including the topic of death and the less positive aspects of life I applaude them. It is ironic that series that are simply feel good type of television including such shows as "Gilligans Island, " "Beverly Hillbillies," and "Green Acres" are critically panned but tv shows that are deemed "real" tv are more often praised. Perhaps the television viewing audience is more tolerate and accepting than most people give them credit for, only Nielsen knows.

Oh so channel 57 actually aired that episode? That's surprising-Well i think that is somethig that will start soon-I heard it was a possibility that the edith's death episode will no longer be in reruns-so i will see if that is true
Dan Asnis 09-05-2002, 02:14 AM I recorded it off UPN 57 when it aired in the fall of 1999 and recorded part 2 again in the spring of 1999 because of a sound glitch during the slipper scene in part 2 on the fall of 1998 airing. Unfortunately I lost the tape of the spring 1999 airing of part 2 without the glitch. And only have the copy with the glitch from UPN 57. Though I also have a copy of the CBS version.
BeatleMoe 09-16-2002, 04:43 PM Why wouldn't anyone want to see "Archie Alone." I am not being a jerk here, but if you really like a series, then watch every episode. Comedies need drama, too.
Crimson and Clover 09-16-2002, 05:44 PM YAY:happyface
TV Guy 09-23-2002, 08:41 PM "Archie Alone" is one of the two episodes that brings tears to my eyes (the closing scene in "The Stivics Move West" is the other). The last few minutes are difficult to to watch, but Carroll O'Connor's performance is magnificent. Definitely the most memorable of all the ABP episodes.
