View Full Version : Facts of Life was the only spinoff to last longer than it's creator
TVFactFan 08-27-2002, 01:47 AM Think about all the spinoffs that were created, even the sucessful ones, besides facts of life, none of them lasted longer than it's creator. Take a look below
at the spinoffs and how long they lasted
Different Strokes-8 years-Creator
Facts of Life-(9 years)-Spinoff
Happy Days-10 years-Creator
L&S-7 years-Spinoff
All in the Family-12 years-Creator
jeffersons-10 years,-SPinoff
Maude-6 years-spinoff
Facts of life is the only spinoff that stayed on the air longer than it parent show
Impressions 08-27-2002, 10:11 AM The Facts of Life isn't the longest running spin-off:
The Tracey Ullman Show 1987-1990 (3 years)
The Simpsoms 1989-present (11 years)
Cheers- 1982-1993 (11 years)
Frasier 1993-present (9 years) (Ties with FOL)
(One of the longest running spin-off but It didn't beat its parent show)

That won't be true for long. Frasier I beleive is signed up until the 11 year so it will actually be tied with it's parent show. Both will have run for 11 years. Cause I doubt very much NBC will cancel Frasier.

What did the Tracy Ulman show and the simpsons spinoff from?

The Simpsons were a short little cartoon that the Tracy Ulman show had. And they eventually decided to give the Simpsons their own show. So that was a spinoff.
I don't think the Tracy Ulman show was a spin off since it was one of the first shows Fox put on the air in 1987 when they first started out.
boechsner 08-28-2002, 02:42 AM Actually, Knots Landing is a longer running spin-off. Beating its parent show, Dallas, by 1 season.
Dallas ran from April 1978- May 1991 (13 Seasons)
Knots Landing ran from December 1979- May 1993 (14 Seasons)
But only looking at sitcoms, FOL is probably the longest.
Impressions 08-28-2002, 11:47 AM I meant to say:
The Tracey Ullman Show 1987-1990 (3 years)
The Simpsoms 1989-present (13 years)
The Simpsons beat The Tracy Ullman Show by 10 years.
SBTB Geek 08-28-2002, 03:12 PM Good Morning Miss Bliss- 1988-1989
spin-off- Saved By The Bell- 1989-1994
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 08-28-2002, 05:38 PM um...ok...lol...I actually just appreciate the fact that FOL was created.but...um..yea...go on back to your debating..

Some of this information up above is totally untrue. First,
All in the Family- 9 years (1971-1979)
The Jeffersons- 11 years (1975-1985)
As you can see "The Jeffersons" ran longer than its parent show. Also, "All in the Family" produced 207 episodes while "The Jeffersons" produced 253 episodes. That should tell you something there right off the bat.
Then- there's The Simpsons which was the spin-off of The Tracey Ullam Show. 'Tracy' didn't last long, therefore, "The Simpsons" has ran longer than its parent show.
SO GUESS WHAT! "The Facts of Life" WASN'T the only spin-off that ran longer than it's parent show because obviously there is two more and possibly even more.
LucyFan 09-13-2002, 01:17 AM Here is ANOTHER SPIN-OFF THAT RAN LONGER THAN IT'S PARENT SHOW . . . Family Matters (1989-1998). It was a spin-off of Perfect Strangers (1986-1993) which ran 7 years. Family Matters ran 9 years.
I just proven my piont AGAIN: "Facts of Life" ISN'T THE ONLY SPIN-OFF THAT RAN LONGER THAN IT'S PARENT SHOW.
In FACT, "The Facts of Life" wasn't even the FIRST spin-off to run longer than it's parent show. THE JEFFERSONS was the FIRST to do that.
Ags2000 09-13-2002, 11:09 AM Um...yeah LucyFan, I believe that had already been settled that the person that posted originally was misinformed. There is no need to continue to rub it in. It's a dead post, let it die. Why continue to try and make somebody feel bad when it has already been pointed out the information was incorrect.
D
Will and Grace Fanatic 09-13-2002, 12:15 PM I don't think he was trying to make anyone feel bad. Why would you think that?

Why? because of these two statements:

and
I just proven my piont AGAIN: "Facts of Life" ISN'T THE ONLY SPIN-OFF THAT RAN LONGER THAN IT'S PARENT SHOW.
They way I'm reading it (with some of the words "shouted") it just seems like he was trying to rub it in a bit more.

? Ok I'm just gonna let this die. You're too damn cheerful all the time to make yourself more liked. And no I don't love it to death. When you see a show you haven't seen for years, you get a little excited. It's called reliving childhood memories. So quit being so damn cheerful and get over it.

OK a couple things.
1) To Quote Mrs. Garrett "Are you trying to pick me up?" Damn LucyFan, do you have a thing for me? I'm not gay. Go hit on some other guy.
2) And even if I were gay, with that attitude and that so-called personality YOU have, I'd go out with ALF before I went out with you.
3) Also, I don't do all that "kinky" teacher - student stuff in the bedroom. "Oh Mr. Jones. I think you're a great teacher. Show me how you pick up guys and keep em going in teh bedroom! Teach me! TECAH ME GOOD!" This is a nice CLEAN family board. If you're SO horney, take it to AIM or MSN. You can meet a lot of nice guys there!
So good luck.........and God SPEED! Cause You're gonna need it!

anyways, that's just my ten yen, sooo, whatever...but, like I mentioned before, I'm just glad it was created...who cares if it lasted longer than diff'rent strokes...as looooong as I getta watch FOL...I'm happy...*continues humming the theme song*

OMG! Obviously, you're selective at reading "between the lines".
Like I said in my previous post their is nothing to get at all. But you seem to keep referring to Chris. To help you comprehend this CHRIS IS APART OF THE NOTHING! I rest my case!

I used Mrs. Garrett's quote because she was an advice machine. She gave all the best advice and I was borrowing it. I have a mind you know. There's nothing wrong wth using quotes. God what are you, the quote police? And what thinks you can make fun of mentally handicapped people? It's a disease that some people have, not amo in a fight. That was really dissrespectful.

I noticed that too, when that happens it can be a bit disruptive and annoying, and it was irritating to see some of the words were out-of-place and I noticed their lips had bad coordination with the way they move their mouth. Maybe it's the signal, lol.

I noticed...it bugs me too..
but what really bugs me is the script! When Blair is "reading sam and jamie the riot act" she says somethign about being "embarrassed" by Geri...which is totally wrong, because in the episode Mrs. G THOUGHT she was embarrassed, but then, when she was talking to Blair about it, she found out that Blair WASN'T EMBARRASSED, she was JEALOUS...JEALOUS JEALOUS JEALOUS!!!lol...it bugged me to death...I was screaming at the tv..which is why I always skip that part when I watch the movie...

Well, wouldn't you think so too. . . .? You are to quick to correct the spelling but it backfired on you when actually it was typo. I guess you like to piont out other people's mistakes in order for them to look bad. You have done that to other people on these boards. I've seen it.

I don't have to POINT(btw, that's how it's spelled) out other people's mistakes to make them look bad...sometimes they do a good enough job of that by themselves.
Besides, I don't do it to make people look bad, I do it in case it WASN'T a typo, like, earlier, someone spelled Jo "joe" I simply pointed out that it's "Jo" and said nothing else, because, as far as I'm concerned, that person hasn't done anything to me to make me get snappy with them. Also, it could be an honest mistake, and they just don't know that the feminine form of the name is spelled JO instead of the masculine form which is spelled JOE...so, to save them from some people who might flip a lid or two if that person was to ever posted a topic about, "JOE," I told them, for future reference, how to spell it. I see NOTHING wrong with that...
you like starting fights, don't you? Is it like a past-time of yours? What, baseball isn't good enough for ya?
Georgia's on my Mind 09-15-2002, 01:01 AM ugh...I have known Chris for a LONG time, long as in longer than your brain cells have been gone...But anyways not that point....Chris doesnt make fun of transsexual's...You just want to make people mad and start fights....Get a life and grow up! Lemme think here . . . after saying "freak" in the last sentence and then all of sudden jump on the subject of sex change in the next sentence. . . wouldn't you think that was the case? Weren't you trying to refer that transexuals are freaks? I don't know but that is the impression that I got.

Well apparently you got teh wrong impression. I wasn't calling transexuals freaks, I was calling you one. And don't say I'm immature by calling you that cause I used your word right back at ya. You alled me one first. How about we STOP! We aren't getting anywhere and frankly your annoying me. You always have and always will, so just lets NOT fight anymore and go our seperate ways. Eh?

I actually hate to be in a fight nontheless start a fight. The reason why I got a bit snappy was because you specifically quoted the spelling of the word "hypocrite" and not the rest of the post. After you quoted the word you then preceded to talk about our little fight. Usually, a poster would quote the WHOLE post and not just the mistake/word. I mean if you have other things to talk about (which obviously you did) and not just the word/mistake than why didn't you quote the whole post? That is what I'm getting at.
KimFieldsFan637 09-15-2002, 01:16 AM LOL - I don't understand why everyone always insists on fighting with LucyFan. It seems like in every fight, LucyFan either ends up in the middle of it, or the subject of it. Can't we all just get along?! And this whole sex change thing...That's all in the past I thought...

because I didn't want to...you're
1.) a pain in the rear end
and
2.) a person who often seems to say, "anyone can post anything on these boards!"
So, ya know what, you really are totally contradicting yourself...I'm glad I've got time to waste correcting you and pointing out your contradictions! The only reason I do it to you is because you make me furious!!

Last post, I swear.
You're not the only person who feels that way. Just posting more makes us all mad. How about we all just drop it, eh?

CORRECTION: I didn't say anything about QUOTING STUFF until my last post. I wasn't referring to the posting but rather to the QUOTING. POSTING ISN'T THE SAME AS QUOTING.
So, ya know what, you really are totally contradicting yourself...
Um . . . NO. Although you like it to seem that way.
I'm glad I've got time to waste correcting you!
Although your corrections are wrong, thanks for giving YOUR time up for me! :) I'm feel so precious now. :D Thanks a whole bunch . . . your sweet. :)
