View Full Version : Favorite season of Bewitched
Novarro 08-26-2002, 12:13 AM What are fans fav seasons (not episodes) of Bewitched? Mine is season number 4 . Both Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York were are really well combined team by then and it was the last season before Dick York's troubles started to become more apparent. Also the stories of this season were still fresh and funny with some of the best episodes appearing during this season.
buddy love 08-26-2002, 08:36 AM I would say my favorite season of BW is season three. The actors were still in peak form. It was the first season the show was in color. The scripts were outstanding and included some of the most romantic episodes--here are some of the standout episodes from season three:
Nobody's Perfect/Moment of Truth (the 2-parter where Tabitha's powers are finally revealed)
Endora Moves in for a Spell
The Short Happy Circuit of Aunt Clara
The Trial and Error of Aunt Clara
Three Wishes
I Remember you, Sometimes
Charlie Harper, Winner
The Crone of Cawdor
ANTHONY6 10-01-2002, 11:27 AM THAT IS HARD TO SAY, IN MY OPINION THE FIRST 4 SEASONS OF BEWITCHED WERE THE BEST. THE CHEMISTRY THAT ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY AND DICK YORK HAD WAS INCREDIBLE. BUT TO CHOOSE ONE IT WOULD HAVE TO BE SEASON 3. IT WAS THE FIRST SEASON THE SHOW WAS TELEVISED IN COLOR AND ALSO EVERYTHING JUST CLICKED INCLUDING THE CHARACTERS AND THE WRITING. THE SHOW WAS ALSO AT THE PEAK OF ITS POPULARITY IN THE RATINGS.
Arfies 10-01-2002, 05:23 PM The first four seasons are my favorite too :) but technically Bewitched was at its highest ratings peak in the 1st season, at #2.
catlover79 09-28-2007, 04:16 PM Mine would be 2 & 4, but I loved the first five seasons. I'm not a fan of the Sargent era...not because of him but because the plots and such were stale and recycled. I still think they should've called it quits at the end of Season 5, but I digress.
comedyfreak 09-29-2007, 08:34 AM The first 6 seasons are my favorite.
I'm a fan of the first season with Pleasure O'Reilly and Shelia in it, but I like all the seasons with Dick York.
OH Nuts! 10-08-2007, 09:36 AM All of the first 5 seasons are absolutely yummy to me. But esp. any ep with Aunt Clara
gotsmart 10-09-2007, 03:40 PM Hmmmm...tough question. I think seasons 1-3 are my fav. There are some good episodes in season 4 but I think that's where the show started to loose steam.
PandoraSpocks! 10-22-2007, 05:43 PM I really like seasons 1-5. i have only seen a couple of episodes with Dick Sargent so i cant really judge those yet, and have an opinion on them. I really couldnt stand gladys kravitz #2 though ergh.
catlover79 11-03-2007, 10:59 AM I've been re-watching Season 5, and even though I'm not a fan of the Darrin-less episodes, there were a lot of bright spots in the season. I especially LOVE Samantha as the southern belle (with guest spots by Isabel Sanford and Jack Cassidy!), when Uncle Arthur switches Sam's and Darrin's voices, and Sam fighting to keep the city park. This is the first time I've seen Season 5 since July, since I loaned the set to a friend and just got it back the other day. Oh well, at least I have it back now.
Season 3....the first color season and it had a good helping of Aunt Clara episodes also - can't go wrong with that! Elizabeth was gorgeous in all of the seasons, but IMO, she looked her best in # 3. Most of my favorite episodes are from # 3.
Darrin1Fan 11-08-2007, 05:26 AM Seasons 1 and 4 would have to be my choices.:)
OH Nuts! 11-08-2007, 08:21 AM I really like seasons 1-5. i have only seen a couple of episodes with Dick Sargent so i cant really judge those yet, and have an opinion on them. I really couldnt stand gladys kravitz #2 though ergh.
Yes. I liked the first Gladys A LOT MORE. She was more confused and frightened by the goings-on next door--not determined to go on an all-out witch hunt like Gladys #2. IMO, Galdys #2 was Cotton Mather in drag.
catlover79 11-08-2007, 01:10 PM ^ I agree with Rich. The Alice Pearce version of Gladys Kravitz rocked. :D
Yeah, she captured the role perfectly; I sort of felt sorry for her at times. For some reason I just didn't have any sympathy for the second one; she sort of brought it on herself more it seems.
Rezny@gmail.com 11-08-2007, 10:21 PM The black and white seasons 1 and 2 and season 3 with Dick York as Darrin were the best.Seasons 4 and 5 with Dick York as Darrin were okay, but something was missing. They should have ended the series when Dick York left, due to his health problems, because the show definitely was NOT the same when Dick Sargent replaced him as Darrin.Dick Sargent was a good actor who did better elsewhere in OTHER roles, but as Darrin,he was not very good in the role.I have heard that he praised highly Dick York who WAS(and Dick Sargent knew it,too)Darrin Stephens.ABC obviously did NOT realize that "Bewitched"was NOT a 1970's show, but a 1960's show.In short, the year 1969 was the beginning of the end for "Bewitched"
catlover79 11-08-2007, 10:59 PM According to the book Bewitched Forever, Dick Sargent said of Dick York: "He was excellent as Darrin." DY also praised DS and called him a "marvelous actor. He had a job to do and did it well."
BensonFan 11-09-2007, 12:07 AM I think the first couple of seasons were the best. The early Tabitha years weren't too bad either, but I actually preferred the "pre-children" episodes myself.

I agree, plus she was more likeable. Her expressions were priceless.

They sure were. No one could scream, jump, and yell "ABNER!!!" quite like Alice Pearce.
Carrie 01-16-2008, 06:15 PM I definitely prefer the seasons with Dick York. I think my favorite is season 3. It's hard to choose though. I liked seasons 1-4 the best. :)

It is hard to choose which is the best of the DY era. I will admit that while there were certainly enjoyable episodes in Season 5, that's when the stories really became derivative. They weren't doing anything they hadn't done before, and of course several episodes were Darrin-less due to DY's health problems. That's why I still think they should've called it quits after Season 5. To me, Bewitched is a 5-season show.

I agree 100%!
James28 03-03-2008, 11:47 PM I don't have a favourite season, but it is a hardly-known fact that there was to be a 9th season planned for bewitched, but Elizabeth Montgomery didn't want to come back after Season 8.
catlover79 03-31-2008, 04:00 PM I agree 100%!
:D

I agree; season 4.
stevea 07-12-2018, 08:33 PM I would say season 3, but that Diaper Dan episode, and the one with Robert Q. Lewis were real turn-offs, IMO.
There are a lot of good episodes in season 2...Tabitha's (Tabatha's) birth, where Endora thaws a little, the Double Tate episode where Darrin's wish turns him into another Larry...a lot funny in this episode, but especially when Sam keeps foiling the real Larry's entrance into his house.
So, season 2.
TV Guy 07-13-2018, 08:33 PM Season 1 is my favorite, because that’s when the show was still purely a romantic comedy, with some witchcraft on the side. With each subsequent season, the witchcraft became more prominent, and the romantic comedy receded (and eventually disappeared by the Dick Sargent years).
