I can't belivethat laverne was almost in her 40's when L&S started-They couldn't have found a younger more attractive female to play laverne?

View Full Version : Did you know that Laverne was almost 40 when L&S debuted in January of 1976 TVFactFan 08-22-2002, 06:25 PM I can't belivethat laverne was almost in her 40's when L&S started-They couldn't have found a younger more attractive female to play laverne? Impressions 08-22-2002, 07:29 PM I like what Penny Marshall brought to the show, though. What would L&S be without Laverne. She is a great actress and I her Appreciate her for that. I don't think It matters whether or not how old she is, or how she looks, Its how good she portrays her character, and what kind of skills, she has to accomplish the character. Well she was a good actress-but i just never knew she was that old at the time-Did you know that she is 60 years old? LucyFan 08-22-2002, 08:13 PM Wasn't she born on October 15th, 1942? If so, that would make her 34 when the series started. I wouldn't say she was almost 40 because that is not true. She was in her mid-30's when the show started. But I really don't think the age matters because she was excellent at playing Laverne. To be honest I thought both Laverne & Shirley were in the 20's that is how well Penny Marshall played her character. Btw, did you know that Lucille Ball, who played the youthful looking Lucy Ricardo, was exactly 40 years old when I Love Lucy started? baronzzz 08-22-2002, 10:51 PM I can't imagine a more perfect Laverne and Shirley than Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams. SOAPDYNASTY 08-22-2002, 11:06 PM Wow she don't look 40 back then:eek: TVFactFan 08-22-2002, 11:44 PM Originally posted by SOAPDYNASTY Wow she don't look 40 back then:eek: She actually did look almost 40-she could not hide it at all. I looked at a Happy dAys and Laverne and Shirley crossover today and Laverne did not look right n Arnolds-she looked like someone's mother Fleet 09-07-2002, 09:31 PM She was nowhere near 40! :) Penny Marshall was born on Oct. 15, 1943, according to an almanac I have. Therefore, she was 32 years old in Oct., 1975... L & S premiered in Jan., 1976 so she was not yet 33 years old. BTW, Cindy's B-date is 8-22-47; she was 28 and 1/2 when L & S began. I know for sure the day is the 22nd because I asked her in person at a celebrity autograph show! Fleet Penny Marshall was born in 1942 not 43-and i guess she was not that close to 40 but not that far either. Pitooey 09-07-2002, 11:05 PM I knew that she was in her mid 30's when she played Laverne but, so was Henry Winkler who played Fonzie. Age doesn't matter.......... Rockapella722 09-10-2002, 09:51 PM Penny was PLENTY attractive. And she was 34. 1976 - 1942 = 34. And it's not a question of casting, Garry gave Penny and Cindy parts for a cameo appearance as a favor. They had chemistry together and the audience loved them. Simple as that. TVFactFan 09-10-2002, 09:59 PM Originally posted by Rockapella722 Penny was PLENTY attractive. And she was 34. 1976 - 1942 = 34. The Last time I checked-34 was only 6 years from 40 Rockapella722 09-11-2002, 06:26 PM That's not NEAR 40, that's near 30. Anything under 5 is rounded down, according to my algebra teacher. Titania 09-11-2002, 08:18 PM It wouldnt have been laverne and shirley without penny. honestly i cant picture ANY other, even younger, actress playing Laverne. James 09-13-2002, 02:53 AM Originally posted by Rockapella722 Penny was PLENTY attractive. And she was 34. 1976 - 1942 = 34. If the show started on 1/27/76 and she was born on 10/15/42 (imdb.com gives this as her birth date) then she would have been 33 when it started. 33 and about 3-1/2 months. Rockapella722 09-14-2002, 04:11 PM Oh. I didn't have a calculator handy, so I did the basic math. LOL. Thanks! |
