View Full Version : What movies should've NEVER had a sequel?
Brian Damage 08-22-2002, 04:10 PM What movies should have never, ever made a sequel and why? Whether it was because it killed the credibility of the first film or because it just didn't need a sequel...
My vote is
Weekend at Bernie's 2- The first movie was pretty funny and could've been a dark classic. The sequel was plain horrible, I mean how many adventures could a dead guy have?
Good topic...
Off the top of my head...
- The "Major League" series. The first one was the best. It was a funny flick that wasn't expected to be a big hit but it hit big when it was shown on HBO, so they rushed out and did a sequel that stunk
- The "Mighty Ducks" series. Any movie about a team coming from behind to win in the end should not get a sequel. Why? Because the next movie is about the team coming from behind to win again! We got the point the first time! That was also the plot of the Major League series, why keep repeating the same plot?
Others to consider...
- Robocop
- Beverly Hills Cop (2 was over the top)
- Romancing The Stone (wasn't too crazy about the first one)
- Arthur (once is funny, twice isn't)
- The Fugitive (if you're not chasing Harrison Ford again, who cares?)

Wasnt there a third mighty ducks movie about the same thing again.

Yes there was and they even considered making that movie franchise into a television series.
Speaking of movies like Major League and The Mighty Ducks, that reminds me of the movie The Bad News Bears. After that movie, came at least two other 'Bad News' flicks.
Brian 08-22-2002, 07:27 PM The Police Academy sequels were horrible. The Rocky movies should have ended after the second one. The Deathwish movies and the Deathstalker sequels also should never have taken place.
Swimfan85 08-22-2002, 08:01 PM hey im a mighty duck fan for life...same with bad news bears hehe
I enjoyed major league one and two...but the third one was horrible like 10 mins in we shut it off
I like home alone 1 and 2 but the third one....noooooo wht were they htinking?
buddy love 08-22-2002, 08:03 PM I would say Jaws, Psycho, Terms of Endearment, Look Who's Talking, Saturday Night Fever (remember the sequal directed by Sly Stallone?), and those Chuckie movies

The Exorcist's sequels...I only saw the 2nd one... it scared me alot more than the first one. ERG ITS NITETIME DAMN NOW I'M SCARED!!!
Janice 08-23-2002, 01:47 AM Silence of the Lambs was real good...Hannibal, not so good.
Godfather 1 & 2 were masterpieces. Godfather 3 was a disgrace.
Jaws should have stopped at one.
I loved Nightmare on Elm Street. Lost interest in the sequel (s).
Terminator 2 was good, but I liked the original better, same for Jurassic Park.
The Rocky movies wore out their welcome after 3 rounds.
Enough already with the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard series.
SOAPDYNASTY 08-23-2002, 02:37 AM The Police Academy sequels were bad.

Excuse me, but I believe that Die Hard With a Vengeance was MUCH better then the original. The original was good, but there was too much of Bruce Willis by himself... therefore no dialouge. In the 3rd one however, he has Samuel L. Jackson to talk to. Plus, in the first one, it was just in one building, and to plainly state- boring. The 3rd one was really funny (example: "Would you stop calling me Hey-Zeus? Do I look Puerto Rican to you?" "That guy back there called you Hey-Zeus." "He didn't say Hey-Zeus, he said Hey Zeus. My name is Zeus." "Zeus?" "eus. As in Father of Apollo, Ruler of Mount Olympus, Don't F*** With my or I'll shove a lightening bolt up your ass, ZEUS! You got a problem with that?") and it kept you involved throughout the whole thing. *jumps off sopabox and shoves it under the table that my chair is @*

I agree. While Godfather III established some really good "whatever happened to" scenareos, it never captured the grandeur of the first two films.
In my book, "Godfather II" is a prime example of a sequel that was just as good if not better than the original.
Wait...
"Empire Strikes Back" is another example...
Georgia's on my Mind 08-23-2002, 02:44 PM "Scarlett" The sequal to Gone with the Wind should have NEVER been made! :angryfire That is the most stupiest movie ever, just UGH! LOL They turned GWTW into a sick and twisted $2 love story *searches for director*

Exactly.
You take a great breakdance movie like "Breakin."
The sequel "Breakin 2 - Electric Boogaloo" was horrible.
It's like they were just in it for a quick buck, not for the break dancing..
For shame!
;)

AHHH! that movie was even worse than the sequel book. Margaret Mitchell would never have let something like that be released.... I dont even know where to start...its pathetic. No original cast- not even a GOOD cast- they kill Mammy! Scarlett has become a trashy wimp and Rhett isnt even hot. Dont even get me started on that duke of fenton or whatever....what a jerk, and Scarlett and Suellen getting to be so close...no way.
The whole plot is unbelievable and twisted. Evil movie.
:: steps off soapbox ::
Also all the Rocky sequels were pointless. Come on Hollywood, leave well enough alone!
Brian Damage 08-23-2002, 06:55 PM Here are some movies that I found out were making sequels:
1. Terminator 3
2. Big Momma's House 2
3. Shrek 2
4. Analyze This 2 aka Analyze That
5. Brady Bunch 3 aka The Brady's go to Washington
6. Indiana Jones 4
7. X-Men 2
8. XXX 2
9. Matrix 2 & 3
10. Under Siege 3

DITTO!
God, I hated that Scarlett movie. I agree it should have never been made or the book ever done either.
I agree with whoever said the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.
I hated the Jason sequels too.
I disagree with whoever said the Psycho movies, I thought the movies kind of got better and better as they went along. Psycho 2 topped the first one, the 3rd one topped the last two. Psycho 4 was okay.

Crimson and Clover 08-23-2002, 10:23 PM they should not make sequals of the disney movies.
Crimson and Clover 08-23-2002, 10:24 PM they need to stop with all the james bond movies too
*ShortCake* 08-25-2002, 10:07 PM Scarlett was definatly the most horrible movie probably ever made !! ( when we are talking a bout sequels)...   I hated it with a passion! This scarlett was so weak, and just pitiful. And the actress was HORRIBLE.. the person who played rhett.. was even worse!! Suellen and Scarlett burying the hatchett wanted to make me puke... ... i am sure poor Margarett Mitchell is rolling in her grave about this!! Lets hope they never make a movie to the book The Wind Done Gone.. or I think i will just DIE.

They'll probably also do a sequel to Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.... that'll be a good one!!!!!! i'm racking my brain here.... Oh Amy, Exorcist 2... Didn't see the whole thing but that African kid.... "I am Pazuzu!!" That scared the crap outta me. And the locusts!!!! AHH!

You're right about The Excorcist 4:1. They were planning a Die Hard 4 movie, but Bruce Willis said that after 9/11, he no longer wants to play those roles.
-*Forever*- 08-26-2002, 05:06 PM Ooh, I can understand about Bruce Willis. Anyhoooooooooo, I wanna see Exorcist 4:1, but my mom and dad are scared of The Exorcist(well, I dunno so much about SCARED but not wanting to see it in theatres), so are Jackie's parents, Laney's dad finds it boring and it scares the crap outta her mom, so looks like I won't be seeing it... unless it comes out over the summer!!! OH VIVI!!!

I kind of like how they did the last movie. I hated those movies with a passion. Everytime the first 2 came on, I would just think to myself how it was a freaking doll and yet it just keeps coming back for more.
I still hate the first two movies. However, I did like the 'Bride of Chucky' movie. It was more of a comedy than an annoying horror movie.
They need to stop with the Friday the 13th movies. Jason in Space??! Did anybody go to see this movie? If you did, did you like the movie?

I absolutely agree with you. I can't believe they brought back the other butler, Hobson, as a ghost. That's cheesy.
*ShortCake* 08-29-2002, 11:00 PM how bout Scream 1, 2, and 3.. LOL those are HORRIBLE movies.. I hated them, even though I personally couldnt stand the gore, they were just bad movies. :/ I also thought the Scary movies were gross too. ( not in a gorey type way though.)
DarleneIllyria 08-29-2002, 11:30 PM How about those Batman films from the 90's? They made the 4th one (Batman and Robin (George Clooney, Chris O' Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Arnold S, and Uma Thurman)) so cheesy! People think that the 60's Batman show was campy, but I swear that Batman and Robin movie just seemed to ooze cheesiness out of every corner!
*ShortCake* 08-30-2002, 12:16 AM LOL yah they are kinda corney.. But I did like Batman Forever!!! haha, I have to be a loyal fan

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought the plot sucked. People that pass on the boards may think that I hated the movies because Adam West wasn't Batman and Burt Ward wasn't Robin, but that's not the case. I thought Michael Keaton did a good job with the Batman role in the first two movies, but I have to say I like the 66 movie and the tv series a lot better.

I too liked Michael Keaton in the first two Batman movies. They were both dark movies which is how Batman was originally created. When Joel Schumacher took over the movies at part 3, he ruined them by making them campy. Even though people enjoy the 60's TV version, Batman is much better the way he was originally created, dark and disturbed.
