It's not fully explained, which is one of the reasons I like the movie (call me weird), but what I gather is he is basically a guard. The woman is in some kind of prison. This is something that has been going on for awhile, a game is played between the woman and the guard, hence the points they talk about through out the movie. If she earns enough points, and also is fast enough she will earn her and her daughter's freedom.

And I've seen similar explanations on the ending, so that seems to be the popular conclusion to the ending.

This and the first movie are presented as if they are the only 2 surviving films of a lost slasher franchise from the 80s/90s. I did enjoy the opening montage showing clips from the lost sequels. Didn't quite like this as well as the first one, but still fun to watch.

Also listened to the commentary with actor/producer George Stover, and director of photography Richard Geiwitz.

On the commentary they mentioned Fiend being part of the 1983 Elvira hosted compilation tape Filmgore. That's how I first heard of Fiend back in the 80s, along with Drive In Massacre, Two Thousand Maniacs, Blood Feast, Driller Killer, and Snuff.

Filmgore was one of the VHS tapes I watched thanks to a friend of my mom's who worked for a VHS distribution warehouse in the early/mid 80s, she could borrow films for the weekend, so she was always bringing movies to give to my mom to give to me to watch. And of course it was horror, but never mainstream horror, it was always these lesser known films. Along with Filmgore, I saw Mongrel (Mitch Pileggi's film debut) Play Dead (killer dog flick with Yvonne DeCarlo, The Milpitas Monster (70s monster movie made by high school students), Microwave Massacre (starring Jackie Vernon)

A remake of the director's earlier film Last Shift, personally, though I did enjoy Malum, I still prefer Last Shift, I actually find it creepy. The cult leader in Last Shift I find far more effective than the one in Malum.

My sister took me to see the first Ghoulies when it came out to the theaters. I prefer part 2 as there's more focus on the ghoulies. Part 3 is silly fun (film debut of Matthew Lillard). Steer clear of part 4, it's horrendously bad.

Cropsey, which I thought was a documentary about the Cropsey legend around NY but turned out to be a doc about suspected child murderer Andre Rand with nary a mention of Cropsey after the opening few minutes. I felt bait and switch-ed.

My sister took me to see the first Ghoulies when it came out to the theaters. I prefer part 2 as there's more focus on the ghoulies. Part 3 is silly fun (film debut of Matthew Lillard). Steer clear of part 4, it's horrendously bad.

Guess I’m one of the rare ones that thought Ghoulies 1 was better. Don’t know about 3 or 4, since he hasn’t shown it.

Anyway, last Saturday (8/5) was The Shadow of the Cat (1950s) with the one actress who played The Gorgon as the niece. Always one of my favorites and love how the cat takes revenge on the evil, greedy people in this movie.

Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire '19 :thumbsup: :thumbsdow (The Abaddon Hotel will once again be open to the public. Russell Wynn has taken his audience-interactive show, Insomnia, into the abandoned hotel that is rumored to be haunted.)

Thumbsup is for actually having some genuinely creepy scenes. The thumbsdown is for bringing back the lame villain from part 2. Up until then I was actually enjoying part 3 far more than part 2. But then they bring in the hammy Scooby Doo villain, and the whole film fell apart, topped off with a very lame ending.

Interesting B&W horror film. Special effects were, I felt, the best part of the movie but fun seeing Richard Denning from Creature from the Black Lagoon and Mara Corday from Tarantula. Not much else to say! About a 6/10. Featured on MST3K last ep of Season 1 which I have not seen but would like to someday.

Subspecies V: Bloodrise (2023) on Blu-ray :thumbsup:

The film works as a prequel of the Subspecies franchise showing the origins of Radu Vladislas.

Franchise director Ted Nicolaou returns, as well as actors Anders Hove, Denice Duff, and Kevin Spirtas.



This is one of the better films that Full Moon has done in more recent years that captures the essence of the original film. Shooting on location in Eastern Europe sets this apart from other vampire flicks.

The fifth entry was discussed for years and then got delayed due to the pandemic. I'm glad that it finally happened.

I hope you do like it, or at least don't feel like you wasted your money. I know I do tend to like horror films that others don't haha

But Rest Stop I actually do find creepy in spots. There is a sequel, It's decent enough.

It does do what a lot of sequels do, explain everything that the previous film kept a mystery, some of that worked, some didn't. But, still good for a late 2000s straight-to-vid.
