Thought this was a good idea. You decide. If there was a new Bewitched show, who would play who?
My Picks would be:

Samantha: Jenna Elfman
Darren: George Clooney
Andora: Bette Midler
Larry: Steve Martin
Uncle Arthur: Jim Carey
Dr. Bombay: Kelsey Grammer

I've been brainstorming this one for a very long time, ever since I heard the rumor that Bewitched was going to be a major motion picture ( still in production hell of course)...
Jim Carrey was my first choice for Darrin.. Come on! He has all the facial expressions, build, voice capabilities of Dick York! His impression would be as uncanny as his impression of Andy Kaufman in "Man In The Moon"...
Recently I read that they are toying with the idea of chucking most of the original Bewitched concept with the acception of a few of the major characters and making it a romantic comedy..
At first I was outraged, but after I thought it over I agree!! And Jim Carrey would share billing with.... ???
I had my own cast all laid on in my mind, with the exception of SAMANTHA... Liz was just so beautiful, and it's gonna be hard to fill those shoes. Closest idea I could picture (being opposite Jim Carrey) would be Meg Ryan.. Blonde hair, and check out that nose!!!!!!!

I think Michelle Pfieffer (how ever you spell that) would be a great Samantha.

Jim Carrey as Darren would be hysterical. I agree that the actress who plays Samantha has to be a real beauty inside and out. Who should play the part? The closest is Michelle Pheiffer but, Is there another actress that could give her a run? Larry Tate should be played by (?).

How about Kim Basinger as Samantha?

I would definitly say Michelle Phiefer and Jim Carrey play Darrin and Sammantha Stevens.

Who would play Alice Kravitz? I say Roseanne! Her hubby could be Tom Arnold!

Hi..... i think Michelle Pfeiffer would be the one & only perfect choice for the role of SamanthA Stevens too....She's so Magical, & remember, She was CATWOMEN!...i think Jim Carey would be an Amazing Uncle Aurthor....Definitly Steve Martin for the role of Larry Tate...I think we should squeeze Courtney Love iN there somewhere, After All, this is the 60's, & nothing's better than a comical, animated, & cosmic facial expression be ZOOMED up so close in a "SUPRiSE SHOCK" shot...plus Courtney Love would LQQk far out in a tie-die mini skirt!.....Kathy Griffin ( w/ her red hair all POOFED up) would be an excelent Gladys Cravits, 'cause she's down with being the annoying neighbor...plus, she'd be histarical running away & screaming.....Bjork would be a perfect cousin/aunt witch that's obsessed with HummingBirds....& i think Ellen DeGeneres would be a perfect fit for the role of Esmerelda...kinda clumsy, yet Grand. & i think i'd be the BEST Darrin Stephans....

Shirley MacLaine as Endora! She's be great.

I've always thought Edie McClurg would make a good Mrs. Kravitz, as another poster mentioned, especially if you're looking for a Sandra Gould-type. Now, if you wanted to cast someone closer to Alice Pearce, the original Mrs. Kravitz, then I'd vote for Beverly Archer, who was Iola on "Mama's Family".

Tracey Gold would make the best Samantha. She looks so much like Elizabeth Montgomery. And yes, Jim Carrey is the obvious choice for Darren.

Jim Carrey as Darrin?????? Are you crazy?????? Not even Dick Sergant could properly fill Dick York's shoes. He WAS Darrin. If and when they do make a Bewitched movie, I hope they try to cast it loyal to the actors and characters, than to trying to fit in as many Hollywood names as they can. That's been the fate of too many TV shows turned movies. Someone suggested casting Sandra Bullock as Mary Ann on GILLIGAN'S ISLAND. Same problem. Go with the characters, not with your favorite actors.

The trouble is, Liza, both York and Sergeant are dead. I agree with the idea of not trying to fit in as many Hollywood names as they can, but for the modern era, Jim Carrey is still the better choice. Do you have any other suggestions?

Edie McClurg would be good for Mrs. Kravitz, TV Guy. She'd also make a great Alberta Kagan, if they ever tried to do a remake of the 1967 Sandy Dennis movie "Up the Down Staircase." Oh wait! They already did a remake of that in 1995. It was called "Dangerous Minds."

Michelle Pfeiffer (however you spell that) is definately my choice for Samantha. Jim Carey would be good as Darrin. Shirley MaClaine as Endora, great idea. I would love to see it happen.

If there was a new "bewitched" , the cast would be like this:

Samantha and Serena: Lynn Hamilton from "Beauty and the Beast"

Darrin: William Ragsdale from "Herman's Head"

Endora: Definitely Rue MacClanahan because Endora had that "Blanche-like" character

Larry Tate: Someone was right when they said Alan Alda

Louise Tate: Marlo Thomas- she has that sensual yet innocent personality like Louise had on the show.

Gladys Kravitz: Definitely Beverly Archer

Abner Kravitz: Someone was right in mentioning the feelingless Bob Newhart. He'd be perfect

Aunt Clara: Betty White

Esmerelda: Ellen DeGeneres

Dr. Bombay: Anthony Hopkins

Uncle Arthur: Jim Carrey

Some REALLY good suggestions and it's a trip at how many people have thought of this as much as I have.
I see Meg Ryan as the PERFECT Samantha/Serena and Duh..Jim Carrey as Darin.
I honestly think the people who said that Michelle Pfiefer should be Sam should get some glasses and a CLUE. Hello. Nothing like Sam. It's Meg all the way..if ANYTHING..MAYBE and this is a HUGE Maybe..Jenna Elfman if Meg turned it down. And the person who said Kim Basinger..((tsk tsk)), need I say more? Cmon. Elizabeth Montgomery would roll over in her grave if she saw that. Eek. I'm insulted for her.

Anyway, thanks for opening this topic Dan =) My pals and I were just arguing this topic a week ago =)

A lot of very good choices have been listed here, but there's a few that I think have been overlooked:

Doctor Bombay: John Cleese
Uncle Arthur: Steve Martin
Larry Tate: Dabney Coleman

I hate to tell you all this, but Elizabeth Montgomery was always greatly opposed to the idea of any sort of reunion show, etc. (Don't you all remember the Brady Bunch reunion nightmares?!) I realize that you're not speaking of a reunion show, as most of the orig. cast is dead; but the best idea yet that I've seen mentioned above is Beverly Archer as Gladys Kravitz!! How PERFECT!!

You all came up with some great people for the roles. I think Jennifer Anniston would be a cute Samantha. I agree with those of you who suggested Jim Carrey as Darrin, Steve Martin as Larry Tate, Bob Newhart as Abner Kravitz, Edie McClurg as Gladys Kravitz
and Betty White as Aunt Clara.

It would be very difficult to cast people into the roles. I certainly would not even consider Jim Carey as Uncle Arthur. Paul Lynde was funny, in my opinion Mr Carey isn't.

This is one of those very subjective things where no matter
what you do someone will sooner or later disagree with at
least one of your choices,on the other hand it is also rather
fun to recast a classic tv show or movie so here goes:

Samantha Stevens:Suzanne Somers

Darrin Stevens:John Ritter

Endora:Lonnie Anderson

Larry Tate:William Shatner

Serena:Roma Downey

Dr.Bombay:Don Knotts

Uncle Arthur:John Cleese

As for casting Samantha, I think Meg Ryan, Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, Suzanne Somers and Heather Locklear are too old to play the role. Don't get all offended on me here. I'm a fan of all of these actresses, yet they're all in their forties. Kim is 49. Suzanne is 55.
Elizabeth Montgomery was 31 when Bewitched debuted.
If we had a time machine and could go back, my vote would go to Heather Locklear.
If we didn't, I'd go with Cameron Diaz, Renee Zelwegger, Kate Hudson, Drew Barrymoore or Reese Witherspoon.

Jim Carey definatley looks like Darrin but Samantha is gonna be tough....Tracey Gold looks a lot like Elizabeth Montgomery but doesn't really sound like her...Shelley Long sort of reminds me a little of Elizabeth Montgomery but she is too old I think.

Ugh.....I don't think I'd welcome a remake of Bewitched.

If something is done right the first time, why bother to try to imitate it or remake it?

Here's my picks:

Samantha: Meg Ryan

Darren: Jim Carrey (then have Kevin Bacon make a cameo at the end to be Darren #2)

Endora: Shirley M.

Larry: Alan Alda

Louise: That woman in When Harry Met Sally who was Meg Ryan's friend (can't think of her name)

WHAT ABOUT NICOLE KIDMAN AS SAMANTHA, MINUS THE ACCENT. I SAW A COVER PHOTO OF HER IN ET WEEKLY. SHE KIND OF REMINDED ME OF SAMANTHA. I AGREE JIM CARREY WOULD BE A GOOD CHOICE FOR DARREN.

I agree with Liz. Obviously, there's not much left of the cast to have a reunion, but I'm against any kind of remake of the show. I think it's horrible how they keep trying to update the classics. Bring out more merchandise and bring the show out on dvd, but don't remake the show with different actors.

Most of everyone's picks mostly including the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show or The Dick Van Dyke Show. It's like reunions of both shows put into one. I love both shows and all, but this is Bewitched. As for me, I don't have any picks. I like the original cast. ;)

I think for the movie.... it should have Jim Carey for the first half.
And then out of nowhere, have Mike Myers take over the role of Darrin.

Then have whoever plays Samantha either never notice, or ask something like "When did you shave?"

If and when they produce a Bewitched movie, I will not be among the folks in line to see it.

Whomever they cast and whatever the plot, ardent Bewitched fans like myself will be very disappointed.

Nothing would ever come close to the original. This is true about most things.

Ellen Degeneres (or however you spell her name) would make a great Esmerelda.

Also we must find some role for Robin Williams too. Who could he play?

I don't like the idea of remaking any classic sitcom (Thomas Wolfe was oh, so right when he wrote "You Can't Go Home Again," because you can't recapture the magic of the original cast or how well "Bewitched" fit the time in which it was aired)--

but if you must, I would consider one of the two or three original stars who remain from the original cast:

ERIN MURPHY AS SAMANTHA!

From the time ABC attempted to revive the Tabitha character, fans wondered why they didn't use Erin Murphy. First time, of course, she was a high school cheerleader and way too young to become an adult...

but anyone's who followed Erin's life after "Bewitched" knows she is blonde and willowy, like Elizabeth Montgomery (she even modeled some of Liz's original show costumes in a fundraiser for AIDS). She seems to have the charm and, no pun intended, the spirit to truly be "her mother's daughter." I could even imagine Erin putting her own spin on Samantha's magic (minus the finger aside the nose! )...

Now Robin Williams could be over the top as Uncle Arthur, but he'd be playin' it too darn close to Mork from Ork (oh, my stars!) ....

Personally I'm mixed with any remake done to Bewitched, but the concept alone makes for a better tv series than a motion picture.

I agree with the last poster who said Erin Murphey should play Samantha. Since most contemporary sitcoms of today consist of new blood and one celebrity, I'm leaning towards an unknown to play the roll of Darrin with perhaps(my pick) "Burt Reynolds" in the roll of Larry Tate.

Robin Williams has mellowed over the years since "Mork" not to mention he's looking a lot older...I have him picked as more in the roll of Maurice than I would Uncle Arther.

I agree with Missy's Pop Pop in that Erin Murphy could play Samantha. If she didn't want to, then Goldie Hawn's daughter, Kate Hudson would make a cute Samantha. Or maybe Drew Barrymore.

I liked the idea of John Ritter for Darrin.

What about Wendie Malik for Endora?
