The show was based on two couples who were friends and wife swapping all kinds of naughty things
I've seen probably 7 or 8 episodes and there wasn't any wife swapping going on. I think there was in the movie that the series was based on.

That does make more sense. I’ve never seen the movie or show, but I can’t picture a sitcom on network TV in 1973 dealing with wife swapping on a regular basis. I wonder how they changed it from movie to show.
All In The Family did have an episode about the subject.

I was already aware of the premise of the movie before I ever saw the series, but I knew not to expect the same thing from the series because like you said that sort of thing would never be allowed on TV in 1973. Maybe for one episode involving guest characters like on All in the Family, but that's it.
The two couples in the series were just friends with each other, that was it.
