I was watching the Mayo Bowl. Maryland beat NC State (like you didn’t already know that), and they were doing the usual bits in this game where the players, coaches, and announcers give their thoughts on mayonnaise, like it, love it, or hate it. For instance, one puts it on spaghetti, someone else uses it on corn on the cob.

Anyways, that long winded intro is to ask your thoughts on mayonnaise.

By the way, the winning coach in this game gets dumped with a bucket of mayonnaise, so I assume each coach is rooting for the other team to win.

I don't mind it if it's used in recipes such as coleslaw or ranch dressing. I can't stand it as condiment and have always been bewildered as to why anyone would slather it all over a hamburger or hotdog.

I love mayo on a sandwich or mixed with tuna, egg or coleslaw ! :)Agreed, I'm not too fond of mayo on a hotdog or hamburger either ! I know people who swear by mayo on their hotdog, they love it ! Mustard for me on a hotdog, ketchup on a hamburger ! ;)

I love mayo. One of my favorite dressing recipes is mayo, mustard, lemon juice, and sugar. It’s great for chicken salad.

I have never liked mayo or other condiments on sandwiches.

I put mayo (or Miracle Whip) in pasta salads, which I'm much more likely to make over the summer & eat cold. Other than that, I will put some on a chicken sandwich if it's pretty plain otherwise.

I like mayo, and mustard on sandwiches, in moderation. I want to accentuate the taste of the meat, not hide it. So many restaurants want to just flood on the sauce, that it often makes me suspect they are hiding something, such as inferior meat.

So when going to Subway for example, I always emphasize "one line of mayo, one line of mustard running the entire length of the sandwich".....and get some pretty odd looks in return.

I like it only with chicken. Since we were out of BBQ sauce, I had to use the last packet of mayonnaise for some chicken nuggets. It did the job.

I like a little mayo on a lot of foods, not heavy amounts, and a good quality.

Miracle Whip is like using Margarine instead of the real thing. Interesting...

What's EDTA?EDTA is something they put in food thats supposed to help preserve it but it can cause all kinds of problems...

I do like mayonaise. Never been a mustard lover. Yes I am one who puts it on hamburger buns. I find the mayonaise keeps the Hamburger juice from sogging up the bun. Mayonaise is one of my favorite condiments

The price of this stuff has really shot up. I've seen foods routinely around 30% higher in price in recent years, but in the case of mayo & Miracle Whip we're seeing more like 90%, if not more...!

Food has become ridiculously expensive. I don't like too much sugar in condiments so try to avoid wherever possible.

I might end up having to put mayo on hotdogs! We are grilling hotdogs tomorrow and I knew we had mustard in the fridge , but IDK what made me check the expiration date? Anyway, I did and it said Best by April 30, 2023 !!! :eek:So it is only a little out of date. Is this still OK to use? Or should I go out to the market and buy new mustard? Or maybe I will just use mayo ?

I'm thinking April 30 can't be that bad, less than a month even. What do you guys think ?

Mustard is acidic, has vinegar. My vote--Use it!

Same with ketchup--tomatoes are acidic.

You gotta be careful with that stuff. I had mustard that went bad once. It leapt out of the fridge and vandalized the kitchen! Then it stole my credit cards!

We’ve drifted away from mayo in here. So, which do you have in your area, Hellmanns or Best Foods? (it’s the same thing, depending on your part of the country)

Yes! Same exact thing, different name . In Philly it was Hellmanns . Out here Best Foods . I think the deciding point is somewhere in the Midwest where the name changes !;)

I actually had a bottle of the following earlier this year - Heinz has some odd combinations and I think this Mayo + Ketchup is still being produced:

And there are others - the 2nd one below has sriracha sauce in it, which I don't know about at all:

I like it on French Fries. Not perhaps a go to condiment for that, it ranks third behind BBQ sauce and Ketchup.

Thousand Island is good stuff too.
