How does Gomer go from complete auto mechanics incompetent in season 3 episode 16 "Man in a Hurry".......to Season 4 episode 6 "Gomer the House Guest" auto repair omnipotent?

In the former you have a guy with a clogged fuel filter who is out of luck because Wally won't work on a Sunday, and all Gomer does is pump gas and check tires...... to the latter where once Gomer leaves, Wally is going broke because all the auto repair business followed Gomer.
