The most recent example for me that I can think of is Bobby Caldwell. After discovering his song "What You Won't Do For Love" I was fully expecting him to be a black man.

Probably most singers I can think of look differently than I thought they did..

Yeah I agree with you about Rick Astley (I like him). But hearing that voice in the 80s (I was in my late teens and I think Rick Astley was like 21 at the time so he's just a little older than me) I think most of us were really surprised to find out it was coming out of this rather young, fair skinned, redhead with freckles LOL. I just remember thinking that voice doesn't go with that face at all. LOL. But he really is an amazing singer.

Really? That's interesting to know. There's been some singers that I thought were black when I first heard them on the radio too but then I found out they're white. But I can't remember who any of them are now.
