Just asking, because I think it would be interesting if there was a spinoff or continuation of Mama’s Family sometime in the 90’s with Vint, Naomi, Iola, Bubba, and Ellen where Mama dies and the family turns Mama’s house into a hotel. Maybe Eunice and Ed would even pop in here and there depending on when everyone was on better terms with Carol Burnett.

Since Ken Berry and Betty White have died we'd need different actors. Harvey Korman is also gone.

Naomi and Vint's daughter, Tiffany, would probably be part of things. Maybe we find out Mama prevailed and she was ultimately called Thelma.

I think actor Tom Everett Scott would be an interesting choice as Vinton. Maybe Dorothy Lyman would be Aunt Effie and Carol Burnett - Aunt Myrtis (the offscreen aunt that was mentioned frequently).

I'd like to have seen a continuation. Have Vint and Naomi finally move into their own home out of the basement, they could be semi-regulars on the show. Eunice and Ed return and reunite with Bubba and they all reconcile, Eunice and Mama, Eunice and Bubba, etc... Maybe Bubba moves back to Florida with Eunice and Ed. Iola deals with the death of her parents, she's finally free from having to constantly care for them. Perhaps Mama and Iola move in together.

I like the Madea idea. Vicki Lawrence said in an interview that she’d be willing to work with Tyler Perry and have a Mama-Madea movie.

It certainly would introduce the show to a new generation, but for those of us who loved the original I think a lot would be lost without Ken Berry and Betty White.
If there is one, the best place for it to pick up not long after the original left off and include the entire family, not just the cast from the syndicated era.
One in today's time, with 32 years elapsing since the end of the original, really wouldn't be plausible. Thelma would be close to or over 100 now, although that certainly could be spun into some comedy. Naomi would be a widow unless Vint was recasted, and of course Ed and Ellen both are gone.

Mama's age seems to be on a floating timeline. She remained in her mid-60s from the very first Family Sketch in 1974 until the finale of Mama's Family in 1990 lol I could see Mama still being around 65 or 66 today while the rest of her Family are in their 70s and 80s lol

Yes it would have been, and I can't think of anything offhand that would have precluded anyone from participating. The Golden Girls and Major Dad (which Beverly Archer joined immediately after MF) were long since finished and Vicki Lawrence and Carol Burnett had long since reconciled. What a missed opportunity!

I think its a show that truly ran its course. Bubba got older and Mama was losing her magic. I think Vicki did the right thing and went out on top instead of running the show into the ground. The last season was mostly meh.

Mama basically become Vickie Lawrance in a gray wig in the last season lol No offense to Ken Berry but he looked in his 60s in the last season, more like a grandfatherly type than about to be a father....Iola was pretty well the same I thought. Bubba was a mature young a adult as opposed to wild teen when he first moved in

Agree. The way it ended was ideal. Yes Tiffany's birth provided material for maybe another year, but six years was a pretty good run. Part of the fun for us here is wondering how the Harpers' lives went on after the series ended, and the fun of that is no one is right or wrong.

The sixth season opened with a really funny episode, with Thelma's cold cure getting all the church ladies looped.

But many other episodes were only so-so, with a few exceptions here and there.

So yes, it was a good run, and the birth of Tiffany Thelma was a natural point to end.

I wish there could have at least been a reunion, like in the mid to late 90s or maybe even in the early 2000s.... I don't mean like the one on Vicky's show, but an actual TV movie.... reuniting all the characters... Eunice, Ed, Buzz Sonya, Ellen, etc.... They could have all done it at that time... Maybe even Tim reprise his role of Mickey Hart.

Yes, that was the best time to do the reunion. If they had to recast, they'd probably recast everyone and pick up from when Tiffany was born. They'd have to get younger actors for sure. But at this point, I can't see it happening. It would be just weird if they had to incorporate all social media and such into the show. The show was from old times. It just would be out of place with today. Back then we had cable and TVs and radios and some computers in the 1980s and that was about it. Mama was old fashioned.
