Walking down the street, often times Ill shake hands with a tree branch saying thank You for being here.. Last night I kissed a big leaf on one saying she looks pretty :)

I often wonder what goes through a plants mind when we touch them..

Dude?? Better than stomping on the plants, twigs.... My friend took a dying spider plant home the other day, it was outside my apt and neglected as I can't do what I use to do, and he says it's like a new plant, water and care.

I've got a friend who insists that farming is slavery. So, perhaps....

I'm kind to my houseplants, and that means learning their specific requirements, water, light, etc. and they pay me back with their beauty.

Pretty decent in the garden, too. my neighbors to either side have marginal success with their vegetable garden, while mine is outstanding. My tomatoes in particular are an annual source of pride.

Only thing I don't seem to be able to grow is watermellon....they never ripen

Don't forget to let us know the next time you conduct a tree funeral, there may be standing-room-only by the stump.

I often wonder what goes through a plants mind when we touch them..:crazy: Nothing... plants don't have brains, no central nervous system, no thoughts, no feelings. A plant is just that... a plant.

"If a tree screams in a forest and no one is around to hear it, will anyone care?"

Would you say that the ability to make decisions based upon memory, qualifies as "intelligence"?

Is that supposed to be proof of brain activity for a non existent brain?:crazy::lol:

How can you feel if you don't have a central nervous system?

I wish that I had a definitive answer for you wawwie. But it's pretty obvious the plant could distinguish "touch" , because only the petals on the branches touched with a finger responded. So there has gotta be (at least) some primitive sensory thing going on.

Just my personal thoughts, but I think that people tend to impose our frame of reference too forcefully upon other beings around us. Maybe the plant accomplishes the same thing through other means? (other than via a CNS)

Think about it this way: Just because Bill Cosby's victims didn't understand why Bill Cosby was touching them, doesn't mean they were unable to feel him doing it.....

True story The large oak tree right center in the first photograph has always been a personal favorite of mine, I suspect it was hit by lightning long ago, and it's branches consequently extend WAYYY out from the central trunk.

The tree stands along side one of the bike paths through a city park near me. Provides great shade. About 10 years ago, I was being silly, and thinking "tree hugger"...I put my arms around the trunk, and gave it a big hug. Didn't realize that I had an audience, but a park employee called out from behind me to "unhand the shrubbery". Needless to say, I was embarrassed. (he thought it was funny)

About a month later a freshly poured cement foundation appeared beneath the tree, and a week after that, the metal bench arrived

Favorite tree, favorite spot along the bike path, what more could I ask for? Few weeks later the same park employee comes walking down the path, and confirms my approval. Claiming I was the inspiration for that location. They put perhaps half a dozen benches along a 4 mile stretch of the path at the same time, but that one was for me.

Here is the view when seated at the bench
