View Full Version : Was "Flash Flood" cringeworthy?

I've seen posts on Facebook Facts of Life groups that said that "Flash Flood" was cringeworthy, especially Blair's crush on Mr. Bradley. It would have been cringeworthy if Mr. Bradley played on Blair's emotions rather than distancing himself from her.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think "Flash Flood" was cringeworthy. Cringeworthy, to me, are "Seven Little Indians" and "Golden Oldies". Oh, the sight gag of Blair in SLI is okay, and "I'm flat busted" in GO is cute, but it's a sort of Three's Company-style humor: they're farcical episodes very far from the original premise of the show.

I don’t find it cringey either

It was "strange", especially when Blair called the headmaster Stephen (or Steven?). Aside from that, it was a good episode

"Strange" would have been Blair developing a crush on Mrs. Garrett!

Or Miss Mahoney if it was in Season 1A.

The only thing I cringed at was the idea that Tootie would have attempted to escape a flood by mounting a horse- STILL wearing those roller skates! Unless they were welded to their feet, I can't imagine ANYone would have been dumb enough to have tried doing that- especially if they were in danger of possibly drowning!

Tootie wanted to roll through those Pearly Gates if the ship went down.

Yeah, she should have taken those skates off. However, Tootie wasn't the most intelligent girl: she thought ditto marks would be acceptable, instead of writing out her sentences.

No, it wasn't cringeworthy. People love to get so up in cringeworthiness on social media. "That show started out so creepy. A man was constantly walking into a girls' dorm unannounced! A MAN!"

People just don't stop to think.

Yeah, it's not like he was walking into their dorm rooms. It was usually just the dorm commons.

It's true he walked into a dorm room in "The Return of Mr. Garrett", but Mr. Garrett was already up there. It's true that he goes up to Blair's room in "Dope", but it's to search for marijuana. It's true that he threatens to go to Sue Ann's room in "Dieting", but he does not.

Yeah, some people just love to equate a grown man around minors, just his presence, as immediately sexually inappropriate.

Yeah, that's odd.

I imagine this photo would have caused lots of uproar in some circles today if the show was on today.

One cringeworthy episode is "Dear Me". The older girls pressuring 13 year old Tootie to hook up with an upper classman to go to make outspot Cooper's Rock. And Mrs. G. doesn't step in to put her foot down.

reply to earlier in the thread about the "he must be a pervert" knee-jerking that you were criticizing:

i doubt the huge drop in USA male school teachers since FOL's era is what feminists (real not straw) intended or wanted, but it is what they have got.

I love "Dear Me"! Tootie is so cute and funny there. (boy, they sure stretched out Tootie being 12 and 13, lol). That's one of my favorites from that era. :)

Tootie deserved a final fate as Prostitootie. Can't stand Kim Fields. She makes Scrappy Doo look like Mister Rogers.

I loved it to. It was nice to see Nancy O. again for more than a few lines. Just found them pressuring 13 year old Tootie (played by 12 year old Kim) to date an upper classman to be a little cringe-worthy.

4 year old Bailey Warner [after Blair kisses her forehead] "You're strange! And not in a Rainbow Brite way!"
