View Full Version : Rocky Horror
AllIWantIsYourClutch 07-27-2002, 12:58 PM I love it. So much. Has anyone ever seen it? Has anyone been to a show?? I love it soooo much. I've seen it 465864385 times and still can't figure out the point.
At first I thought Frank killed Eddie cuz he was jealous cuz Rocky seemed to like him , but then it was like that Eddie knew something about the "plan" but I couldn't figure out what the plan was. I thought it might be the trip back to Transexual, but thats not too.....secret. But I guess it could be. And then Frank thought Dr. Scott was from the FBI or something....I didn't get it. I knew Brad and Janet were going to see him, but why was he at the castle. Well, I'm answering my own questions here....he was at the castle because of Eddie. But WHY? Sure, he got the note warning him, that they "mustn't carry out their evil deed." But what was the evil deed? Going home?? Or building Rocky? I don't even understand why they built him in the first place. THEN at the end when Riff Raff and Magenta come in....what do they have against Frank? I mean, he didn't do anything! Thats prolly why they killed him...because he waited so long to take them home.
I dunno....I'm confused. Anyone wanna explain this to me?????????????????????????
Mossopp 07-27-2002, 01:09 PM I hate that movie for sooooooo many reasons!
Unfortuntely I have been roped into going to see the live stage show when it comes to Glasgow later on this year.
I'm going to go into hiding.........
Of all the movies they are remaking these days, I think it would be interesting if they remade the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
There are certainly some colorful pop stars out there who could fill the roles.
Why am I picturing Brittney Spears as Janet?

It's basically living life ion the 60's. becoming a transexual was the "in" thing at the time. I don't rememebr, but i saw it a while ago on AMC backstory.

 OMG!! IT'S ONLY THE BIGGEST AND BEST CULT MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!
Mossopp 07-28-2002, 05:53 AM For those of you who haven't seen 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' allow me to fill you in:
It's basically a plotless mess involving a really annoying newlywed couple who have the misfortune to run into Tim Curry - who looks even scarier than usual cos he's dressed in stockings and suspenders. It's not a pretty sight - I guarantee you'll have nightmares for a month!
They stay in Tim Curry's castle. They sing a bunch of terrible songs. That bald git from 'The Crystal Maze' *shudder* shuffles around for a while. Meatloaf appears..........but unfortunely he's only on screen for about 2 minutes. They sign more crap songs. The clothes get even more weird.........
I'm sorry, but the whole thing is just crap. I mean, that's just my humble opinion and, to be fair, it is a bit of a cult classic. I just hate it, that's all.
The Rocky Horror show started out as a live show, then became a low budget musical movie. WHile it didn't make much money when it was initially released, many theaters started showing it at midnight screenings, and that's when people started taking notice. Fans began to show up dressed as characters from the film, singing along with the movie, and even performing the film in front of the screen.
VH1 periodically shows the film, plus it is available on video.
It's an aquired taste, I'll give you that, but the song "Time Warp" kicks ass!
Dr. Lilith Sternin 07-28-2002, 08:45 PM Okay, first... Janet and Brad weren't newlyweds... they were newly engaged. I've loved this show for God knows how long. It's so stupid and fun. Normally, I wouldn't be a fan of a show of it's... caliber... I'm what one might call a theatrical snob. LOL. Anyhoo... I do love Rocky and I was Janet in a production. SO FUN.
I do agree they should do a remake of the film... but BRITNEY SPEARS? PUH-LEASE! She's not cutesy and innocent enough. NO ONE would buy Britney as being innocent... ugh. Janet still maintains that innocent-like quality even during "Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me." She's a goodie goodie... Britney doesn't even come close to one. No, no, no... NO pop stars in the show. LOL. It reminds me of the casting of Chicago, the movie... and I'm getting ill just thinking about it.
If they made a movie, I would love to see Bebe play Magenta... I think she would kick much ass! I can so see her in the role. I would love to see Alice in the movie... she was a GREAT Janet.
Anyway, they've been playing it late at night on AMC as of late. If anyone wants to catch it, tune in around 10-11ish. It's so fun.
Okay, since we're not all thrilled about Brittany, we'll table that idea for now...
I'll admit Bebe would be great as Magenta.
Comedian (and cross dresser) Eddie Izzard would make a great Dr. Frank N. Furter.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 07-28-2002, 11:17 PM Wait....it's STILL on AMC?? AH! I hafta watch it!
Blair85 07-29-2002, 12:11 AM Last night I was still up & wide awake after watching those miners on CNN getting pulled from that mine, and I saw that The Rocky Horror Picture Show was on AMC, so I said well I've never seen this before. I watched a lil bit & thought to myself, "Goooood Lord!" I watched the part where Tim Curry was swimming around in that pool, & I watched it till they got killed. I must admit, it did freak me out a tad.

Oh my....you missed the good parts.
Rockapella722 07-29-2002, 03:03 PM I've been meaning to see RHPC... Tim Curry is so awesome. Hopefully, next time I go to rent a movie, I'll remember this.
Bootsy Whoosh 07-29-2002, 03:28 PM Well Dr. Lu, I'm sorry but I cannot help you much on the "finer" plot points of that movie. It's been quite awhile since I've seen it, and it always was confusing.
To people who only watch it on TV and don't like it: try going to a movie theatre sometime where they have audience participation. It just might change your mind about it, if you are willing to trry. Audience participation makes the movie a blast, and is no doubt why I am such a fan of it. If I had only watched it on TV or video, I probably would not like it.
But aside from the rather convoluted plot, the main point of the movie is "don't dream it.....be it!"....basically, don't let anything hold you back from being what you want to be....mostly I think the movie is addressing sexual freedoms, but the idea of "be it!" could be applied to anything.

webuster 09-12-2002, 02:12 PM Ok, First THEY ARE REMAKING ROCKY HORROR, ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE AGAINST IT, BUT ITS BROADCAST FEBRUARY NEXT YEAR I THINK. next, Rocky Horror was a parody and a spoof, using all the cliches in the book from all the B-Movies, while adding a funny storyline. It's confusing the whole eddy thing, because in the lab just before columbia is turned to stone Frank says- "Do you think I made a mistake, splitting a brain between the two of them?" this indicates that Frank created Eddy, he also says rockys behaving just like eddy did, so at one point eddy must have been franks plaything, he also says he had a certain naive chamr, but no muscle, again indicating this. Some sites say Eddy was franks creation. But then there's doctor scott, or dr.vonn scott, a german spy that sometimes lets slip his accent, he is supposedly Eddy's uncle, so either Frank is Scotts brother, which cant be right cos in the song he says he was the thorn in his mothers side, and if eddy was created he had ioonly a 'father' unless frank was a hermaphrodite which masqueraded as a woman in public and was in fact scotts sister/brother, and scott was an alien or frank was a human who was killed by Riff and Magenta to leave no evidence. I think O'Brien meant for this conversation to happen, after all, there were always bloopers in BMovies and Plots that didn't fit, or my theory is right, or O'Brien was on drugs, just don't try dissect it.
I'm glad if I've helped, If I haven't then, Let's do the timewarp again.:happyface

That doesn't make sense. Frank had that big party and ***** and he's all saying that he discovered the secret of life itself..blah blah blah..but wouldnt he have done that the first time?? Given the speech I mean....
And when he said "Do you think I made a mistake, splitting a brain between the two of them?" he wasn't nessecarily talkin about Eddie...I dunno who he was talking about....but it didn't hafta be Eddie.
When he said "Rocky's behaving just like Eddie did." he prolly just meant he was....*whispers* horny.
Eddie is just some average biker who met Columbia and fell in love and his uncle just happened to be Dr. Scott.
Dude....Frank isn't...or wasn't... a human. Just...no.
And yah it's a spoof of B-Movies...duh. That was kinda the point...
webuster 09-15-2002, 09:59 AM Ok, someone posted this in regards to my rocky horror post:

And when he said "Do you think I made a mistake, splitting a brain between the two of them?" he wasn't nessecarily talkin about Eddie...I dunno who he was talking about....but it didn't hafta be Eddie. - He was talking about Eddy, he said "Rocky's turning out just the way eddy did (which isn't horny, I think more heterosexual, because frank slept with rocky) Do you think I made a mistake, splitting a brain between the two of them?"
When he said "Rocky's behaving just like Eddie did." he prolly just meant he was....*whispers* horny. -Nope
Eddie is just some average biker who met Columbia and fell in love and his uncle just happened to be Dr. Scott. -More and likely yes, but many websites say eddys a creation also Comumbia said 'You threw eddy away like an old overcoat for rocky' as though he's a past creation.
Dude....Frank isn't...or wasn't... a human. Just...no.
And yah it's a spoof of B-Movies...duh. That was kinda the point.- I think O'Brien meant this to happen, I mean B-Movies stories never added up, mAYBE IT WAS and accident, I think it was on on purpose to spoof the B-Movies.
Ok!
callmetootie 10-24-2002, 10:41 AM The first half is excellent. The first 10 minutes actually were great with Janet and Brad singing "Dammit Janet". Also, when they first get into the house and all of that stuff....but sonce Janet and Brad are into Frank-N-Furter's grasp and walking around naked, the film goes for the worst and turns into an X-rated romantic horror film. The ending is really never put into one like it should have been, and the special effects were just so cheap. C+.
Mossopp 10-24-2002, 04:29 PM Can I just say that, after seeing 'Rocky Horror' live, I take back my previous comments on this thread. For my opinions on the live Rocky Horror Show see the "Rocky Horror....*grin*" thread on Chit Chat.
The Rocky Horror live stage show has got to be one of the coolest experiences of my life!! I urge everyone to see it if they get the chance! :D :D
To take this topic in a different direction - what do you all feel is the best song from the movie? Obviously 'The Timewarp' is a true classic but I like 'Hot Patootie' and 'Dammit Janet' too.

First of all, I said this before, but NO FAIR! I WILL see it live one of these days..
My favoritest song would prolly be The Floor Show....all 3 parts. That one and Science Fiction, Double Feature....and like you said, "Timewarp" is a classic.

Not nessecarily because Frank wasn't 100% gay either...he was more bisexual cuz he slept with everyone.
callmetootie 10-24-2002, 07:52 PM I saw it on Broadway 6 times...and was NEVER disappointed. Sure, it lost some of it's spunk when Tom Hewitt and Alice Ripley left, but the Narrators were hilarious. Gilbert Gottfried, Jerry Springer, Dick Cavett, Penn & Tenner, Sally Jesse Rapheal, and Cindy Adams I saw on as the Narrator those 6 times.
