View Full Version : Going to the movies.....
Mossopp 07-26-2002, 04:58 PM When I go see a movie at the cinema it has to be something I really, really wanna see otherwise I'll just wait for it to come out to rent. My nearest cinema is an hour and 15 mins journey on public transport away so half the time I just can't be arsed.
If I buy a movie on DVD I'll usually watch it constantly for about a week after I buy it. I think my record was when I bought 'Josie and the Pussycats' - I watched that every day for 2 weeks after I got it. But that's what DVD's are for, right? (Although I bought 'The Fast and the Furious' on DVD about 8 months ago and I still haven't even opened the box!)
What I wanna know is how many times have you gone to see the same movie at the cinema? I went to see 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' at the cinema threee times when I was a kid cos I loved that movie and it was the only way my parents could get me to stop bugging them. I'm contemplating going to see 'Scooby-Doo' again tomorrow just cos I have nothing better to do. If I do go again, that'll be the second time I've gone to see it. Of course, tomorrow, when I'm sober and I see how disgusting the weather is I may just change my mind, but we'll see........
What about you guys? What movies have you seen at the cinema more than once and why?
The only movies I see more than once are the "Star Wars" films. When i was younger usually saw them five or six times in the theaters.
Now that I'm an adult, I don't have time for multiple viewings. I have only seen "Episode II" twice.
Oh, the shame of it all!
Kay Scarpetta 07-26-2002, 05:51 PM Lilo and Stitch twice.... um, Flubber 2 times, Bring It On 8 times....
Although, my record for Bring It On is now up to 92 times to-date. So. :D
JethroSimpson 07-26-2002, 06:31 PM I barely ever bother going to the Cinema even though there is one 5 minute walk away from my house.
By the time you pay the admition and buy all the accesories, you could buy the special edition DVD for the same price.
Montana Ponine 07-26-2002, 06:42 PM Ummm I think the only movie I saw in theatres twice was The Parent Trap. I love that movie lol. I don't go to the cinema a lot... I'm not very big on movies. I have seen the musical Les Miserables three times, though lol.
Bootsy Whoosh 07-26-2002, 07:17 PM Well if you are drunk (as you indicated by saying tomorrow you'll be sober) I must commend you on your typing abilities! :D
As for the question at hand....I saw Pulp Fiction in the theatres I think about 5 times. And I've probably seen it another 10-15 times since then.
Why? I dunno....I just really like that movie. But also, I don't think there is any way someone can truely appreciate that movies until at least the 3rd viewing, because the first time out, it's pretty dang confusing.
That was also back when I was young(er), and had lots of spare time and money on my hands. Nowadays I pretty much never bother to see a movie twice, unless it's at the cheap theatres and I'm going with friends who haven't seen it yet.
Hollow 07-26-2002, 07:39 PM I saw star wars episode 1 2ice cuz the 1st time i saw it w/ my brother and my dad and the 2nd time i saw it w/ my brother and my mom
Czas na Zywiec 07-26-2002, 07:39 PM Well I only see movies once, but a couple years back I saw *coughcoughTitaniccoughcough* 3 times. Don't ask me why! First I went with cousins, then my frineds begged me to go with them, and lastly my parents and uncle and aunt wer elike, come with us to see it. Well of course I didn't sit near them.
XoVanillaRain90oX 07-26-2002, 09:41 PM I've seen The Kid twice. Once wit my mom and once wit my mom and my friend Leamarie

at least you got to see titanic in theaters. my mom wouldn't let me go see it with my friend since it was too "mature."
i only see movies once. then, when it comes out i'll watch it more times.
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 07-26-2002, 10:00 PM I saw 'Lord of the ring' 4 times in theaters.. i love that movie, and i always catch something diffeernt each time!! :)
vienna waits 07-26-2002, 10:19 PM I saw Mulan three times at the theater.... it's okay lol but I dunno why I went three times.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 07-26-2002, 10:24 PM I saw Titanic twice and Moulin Rouge 4 times in theaters. :D
80sTrivia 07-26-2002, 11:25 PM The most times I ever went to the theatre to see a movie was seven times. My sister and I really enjoyed the original Jurassic Park movie and had to experience it as many times as possible!!!
Ewan's My Man 07-26-2002, 11:41 PM I saw Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 times and Attack of the Clones 3...but hey...my man's in that one!

Thanks. You don't know how long it actually took me to type that though!
I agree with you that some movies you really have to see more than once to truly appreciate. I think I saw 'Akira' about 4 times before I really managed to get to grips with the story. The same goes for all anime though I think, cos they're just so damn confusing!
Some movies however, seeing them just once is more than enough. I did go'n see 'Scooby-Doo' again but I didn't catch anything the second time around that I didn't see the first time. Although Scrappy-Doo gets more annoying every time I see him!
LucyCompanyPhan 07-27-2002, 03:18 PM its funny cos i always see a movie like twice in theaters.I've seen so many movies twice in theaters. Usually i never see a movie more than twice in theaters. When I was younger the only movies i would see twice are Disney movies & Spice World. lol But lately i see alot twice.
Evolution (twice & i own it on dvd now)
The Grinch (1 1/2, how u might ask? well i saw it the day it opened cos we got tickets ahead of time...and then my friend forgot them, so i missed the first 20 mins cos we had to go back, but then i went back with my mom and saw it again, plus i have 2 copies of it now)
Oceans 11 (twice in theaters & 5 times total now, but im gonna get it on dvd)
Spider-Man (I saw that 4 times, my record, but im done for seeing it til DVD)
Lilo & Stitch (i saw that twice. i saw it with my friend & then i saw it at a drive in)
Mr.Deeds (Twice, and maybe ill see it again. I loved that movie so much. Cracks me up)
Its sorta funny, if i really like a movie, ill totally see it 100s of times... such as Liar Liar. I've see that over 500 times (no joke) when i first got it on VHS, i watched 6 times just over the weekend. my 4 friends and i were so obsessed it was like a fad at our school. ive seen it sooo many times i can resight the whole movie right now off the top of my head hehe
JoPol_wannabe 07-27-2002, 06:54 PM I saw Titanic like 4 times at the Theater and I saw Monsters Inc 2 times and I saw Runaway Bride twice.

Oh I think I could guess how long it toook you to type that. I've come on here drunk a few times before, and it takes me forever to type. Hell I'm having problems typing good right now and I'm sober (could be the new keyboard).
ANYhoo....speaking of movies worthy of seeing more than once...I finally got around to seeing Fight Club, Mossopp! Great movie. I want to see that one again some time.
And you're right about alot of anime being confusing. I've seen a few where I was just like "what the.....?". Never seen Akira though, go figure.....

You have to see Akira - it's a classic!
Fight Club is truly amazing! You could watch it 10 times and spot something you missed before each time. I've seen it over 100 times so I think I've just about caught all the subtleties by now.
BTW - did you see Tyler before the Narrator actually 'met' him on the plane..........? That's a test to see if you were paying attention or not ;)
-*Forever*- 07-30-2002, 06:50 PM Well, I saw Harry Potter 4 times in theatres.... when it came ou on video.... let's say that I liked Alan Rickman @ the time and got excessive viewing amounts of the movie (Marisa, remember when I rewound it only to end up fast-forwarding it to see Alan?). I saw Ya-Ya Sisterhood 3 times and was headed to a 4th with Whitney and Laney, only to find out that the stupid Carousel took it out!
As for movies I own... well, I've seen Die Hard With a Vengeance too many times to count.

Yes! I remember that... we were chatting on IM lol. And now... you don't... like him anymore!! I'm sorry, it's just...it's hard for me to take. *turns and cries*
I saw Saving Private Ryan twice mostly because the action scenes were in more like real time rather than movie-watching time so I needed to see what was going on. It was VERY interesting to understand the stragety better the second time....I don't hardly ever, in fact almost never, drink so I found out just recently how rediculously hard it is to type without making error after error. I guess a part of the brain responsible for the typing trigger is not so alert while partilally drunk.
Crimson and Clover 08-21-2002, 09:12 PM the last movie i saw at the theathers was Shrek. i dont like going to the movies cuz it wastes money and it can be ruined easily by people talking. so i just wait till it comes out on video
Swimfan85 08-21-2002, 11:17 PM titanic...I usually see it once and then wait till video

Cactus Jack 08-22-2002, 12:22 PM I LOVE alot of movies but here is a list of movies I have seen a lot, heres one the movie I have seen most is Ferris BUeller's Day Off I have seen that movie 27 times!! I LOVE that movie!
Brian Damage 08-22-2002, 03:43 PM I saw Pulp Fiction three times in the movie theater on the naval base where I was stationed a few years ago. The movie was /is great, but I think I saw it so many times because there was nothing else to do around town.
I only go to the movies about twice a year and thats when its something I am really dying to see. My son goes more often than I do. But for most movies I wait for them to come out on DVD & rent them at Hollywood Video.
I also buy a few DVD movies that I really like.
miko80mix 04-12-2007, 05:54 PM movie tickets are soo expensive these days... but i watched star wars ep 1,2 and 3... worth it... or maybe that's just the geek talkin... lol

comedyfreak 04-13-2007, 04:11 AM I only go to the movies if there is a movie out that I really want to see, like during the Summer season. I seen The Benchwarmers five times cause I really enjoyed it and laughed out every time. I seen Spider-Man about three times. I like going to the movies before 6 matinee times when the prices are cheaper.
catlover79 04-13-2007, 01:00 PM I worked at a movie theater for over 6 years and saw my share of free movies. Now that I don't work there anymore, I just wait for a movie to come to DVD and take it out of the library. Just like current TV shows, I'm not much interested in current movies anymore. I don't enjoy the theater experience anymore, with loud people (ESPECIALLY teenagers) and high prices, etc.
