This is my first time writing fan fic. Let me know what you think. But remember that I am also new the show, and don't know the charcters that well. In other words some, or all of the characters might not act, or respond like the characters do.

One more thing before I start. This is the same fan fic that I have been writing on the lifetime Bonnie Bedelia message board. I wanted some more opinions on what I was writing, and someone told me to come here. For those of you who have already read some, or all of what I have written on the lifetime board please read it again, because I will be changing somethings, but not all of it. Once again please let me know what you think. keep in mind that I know nothing about the law either. So here it goes.......

In a Galaxy far far away.....ops sorry worng fan fiction! LOL J/K

Kate: (She is sitting in her office when she gets a knock on the door). "Come in." (Haysbert walks in the door, as Kate looks up. She makes an oh great look what does he want)? "What can I do for you Charles."

Haysbert: "You can tell me why Jinny and Magda have not finished their case yet? It was suposed to be done by yesterday. So why isn't it done? They have the perp in jail. We can only hold him for forty eight hours. He already has been in there for almost twenty four hours. If you ask me we are just waisting money on this. So tell me why isn't this case closed yet?"

Kate: (She wanted to say if you would give me a chance to speek, but she chose not to.) "Jinny and Magdaare trying to find the witness he just vanished. They can't find him. Once they do the case will be closed."

Haysbert: "Didn't they get a statment from the witness before they let him go?"

Kate: "The witness just talked to them. Both Magda and Jinny said that he was real scared. Anything that they got out of him they had to convice him that he would be safe. That they guy would not hurt him. The witness did not want to come down to the police station to make a statment, so they told him that If, he wanted to they could meet him at his address, and he could give the statment in his own house if, that would help calm him down more. The guy agreed to that. They got his address and when they went to get the statment later, he had given them the wrong address. They are trying to track him down now."

Haysbert: "Didn't they get the witness's name?"

Kate: "Of corse they did. Their not frist day officers who don't know what they are doing. Their trying to track his were abouts now. Other then that I don't know what kind of leads that they have."

Haysbert: "Well you should. Keep me posted every few hours." (With that he walked out of her office, and slamed the door).

Kate: (to herself). "Well good bye to you too!" (She got up from her desk, to go find out what Jinny and Magda had found out on the witness, when her phone rings). "Hello Captain MaCafferty."

Tom: (One of Kate's old friends. Who is real high up in the DA's office. Much higher then anyone that Haysbert whould know. Tom also happens to be married to Kate's old high school friend). "Hi Kate, it's Tom."

Kate: "Tom hi! How are you? Is this business or pleasure, or both?"

Tom: "I'm good Kate. I wish this was pleasure. Believe me. Are you sitting down Kate? If, you now maybe you should."

Kate: You have some bad news. I don't need to sit down. Is this about Helen?" (Tom's wife). "Is she alright?"

Tom: "No this is not about Helen. Look I really wish that I could be tellling you this in person, but I can't, so I will tell you over the phone. It's about Eric Stone. He got out on parole."

Kate: (She looks really scared, and mad). "What?! How?! He wasn't even up for parole for another two years! Tom how could they do this twice? Huh?! They let him on parole five years ago, and he tried to kill me then. How in the he** could they let him out again?!"

Tom: "Look Kate I am really sorry. I just found out myself. They let him out one good behaver..." (Kate cuts him off).

Kate: "Good behaver?! That is what he got off for the last time. How could they make the same mistake twice?!"

Tom: "It's not only good behaver. He is dieing too. He needs better health care, and can not get the same kind of care that you, or I would get."

Kate: (She new that she shouldn't be thinking this, or saying it, but she didn't care). "He should die for everything that he has done. He should have gotten death row the frist time he was sent to jail. What Kind of system do we have? They let a cop killer go, not once, but twice!"

Tom: "I understand how you feel Kate. I don't want this guy out of jail anymore then you do. But you also know that he was not charged with murdering her. The cop that arrested Stones did not read him his rights, so that whole case got thrown out."

Kate: "I don't need you to tell me that I was there. Remember? I watched, and could do nothing while Stones shot, and killed my partner. She wasn't just a partner, she was a good friend as well. If that Cop had just read him his rights then we wouldn't be standing here today with him out of jail again."

Tom: " Kate I want to put a gard on you to keep you safe from him."

Kate: "Two things Tom. One you can't put a gard on me unless he tries to hurt me. And two I can take care of myself."

Tom: "Kate I know that you can take care of yourself, but that did not stop him the last time, and if I remember right he even found out were you lived. If you won't let me put gards on you at least let me call Ross. You know that both Helen and I like Ross. He is one of the good guys. You should take the rest of the day off."

Kate: "Yes, Ross is every nice guy, and it just so happens that I am having dinner with him tonight at my house, so I can tell him then. But I am not takeing the rest of the day off. You know that Charles is trying to find a way to get rid of me. Plus it will make me look like a wimp, and that I am not. I will be fine. I know that I have a lot of work to do, so I can't even think of the amount of work that you have to do, so I will let you go. Keep in touch, and let me know what is going on with Stones."

Tom: "I won't let Charles get rid of you. If you want to stay at work fine. That is up tp you. You are right I do have a lot of work to do, so I will let you go. Just be on the look out for him okay? We both know that he wants to....." (He cuts himself off, and changes what he is going to say). ".....he wants to hurt you and he will not stop until he does. I will keep you up to date on Stones. Bye.

Kate: "Thanks. I will keep my eyes open. I will not let that SOB hurt me. He can't not anymore. Bye." (Kate hangs up the phone, and turns around in her office. She needed to go and find out how Jinny and Magda where doing, but she kept looking at her wall. The truth was that Stones could still hurt her. She kept thinking about everthing that Stones had done to her, and now he was out of jail, and could do anything that he wanted too. Ther was a knock at the door, and the person was comeing in as they knocked. Kate jumped and turned around, putting her hands to her heart. It was Raina). "You scared the crap out of me!"

This next part has a little more of the cast, but Please remember that I am still new to the show. Let me know what you all think!

Rania: "I'm sorry. Are you okay?? You look really really pale. Maybe you should sit down? Can I ger ya somethin to drink?"

Kate: (She is trying to cover, but not doing a good job of it). "I'm alright Raina. Um....is there something you need?"

Raina: "Well yeah, I had a question about a case, but it can wait."

Kate: (Still not really with it). "That's...uh...what I'm here for." (She just stops talking all together. She is just kind of stareing into space).

Raina: "Uh....Captain are you sure your alright?"

Kate: "Huh...Uh...oh yeah, I'm fine. Now where was I. Oh I know. What is your question?"

Raina: "You know the Stevens's case that....." (the secound Raina said the name Stevens, Kate was gone. She was not paying attention to a work Raina was saying. Raina tells her about the case, and them asks)".....So what do ya think?" (Waits a secound, and there is no answer form kate). "Captain??"

Kate: (Not hearing Raina, or even realizeing that Raina is still in the room). "I can't believe that they let him out on parole again."

Raina: (Very confused). "Huh?!"

Kate: "What?" (Realizeing that she wan't paying attention to Raina, or her question). "Oh, my God! Raina I am so sorry. I didn't hear a word that you said."

Raina: "Oh, that's okay. Are you sure your alright?"

Kate: I'm sure It's.....well I got some bad new today is all." (Trying to change the subject). Now....umm back to you and your case."

Raina: "Captain it can wait. It really isn't that important. I can ask one of the inspectors. They should be able to help me."

Kate: "You sure?"

Raina: "Yes, I'm sure. Uh...you positive that you don't want anything, or need anything?"

Kate: (Getting mad, because Raina keeps asking her is she okay, or is she needs anything). "Positive. Anything else?"

Raina: "No."

Kate: "Good. After you leave could you please send Magda and Jinny in?"

Raina: "Sure thing Captain." (Raina leaves, and shuts the door on her way out. she walks up to Jinny and Magda). "Jinny, Magda Captain wants to see ya."

Jinny: "Ya know what she wants?"

Raina: "Uh...no I don't. There's sometin I want to say befor you go in there." (Looking Worried).

Magda: "What? What is it? Something wrong?"

Jinny: "Yeah, What's up?"

Raina: "It's the Captain. I mean she was acting really strange."

Jinny: "She is strange."

Magda: (Giving Jinny a look). "Jinny."

Jinny: "What? It's the truth."

Magda: "Anyway, go on. Strange how?"

Raina: Well, when I frist walked in she about jumped out of her skin. She was real scared."

Jinny: "CAPTAIN?!"

Raina: (Kinda annoyed). Yes, Captain. Now could you let me finish?"

Jinny: "Sorrrry!"

Raina: "Anyway, I asked her if there was somethin wrong, and she said no, but I could tell that somethin was wrong."

Magda: " Why do ya say that?"

Jinny: " She said to let her finish. Weren't ya listening?"

Raina: (Both Raina and Magda give her a look). "Because, I had a question about a case, and when I was done asking about it, she had not even heard a word that I said. I don't even think that she rememberd that I was in the room. I haven't known her long, but I know that, that is NOT like her."

Magda: "No That's not like her at all. I wonder what's wrong?"

Jinny: " No that doesn't sound like her at all."

Magda: "Maybe we should try and give her a break when we walk in there." (Both Magda and Raina look at Jinny).

Jinny: "Hey, why are you both lookin at me for?" (At this point Kate opens the door to her office, and looks at both Jinny and Magda).

Kate: "Ladies I don't have all day." (She waves for them to come into her office).

Magda: (All three walk into the Captain's office, and Magda shuts the door). "What's up Captain?"

Kate: (She is more with it this time, but you can tell there , is something trubleing her). "Charles Haysbert was here, and was not to happy about the witness. He wants this case closed by tonight. Do you know the where abouts of the witness yet?"

Jinny: "Captain it was not our fault the witness vanished."

Kate: "Did I say it was your fault?"

Jinny: "No, but..." (Kate cuts her off).

Kate: "But nothing." (Kate was not in the mood for this at all, but was trying to stay calm. She takes a deep breth in, and lets it out). "I know that it wasn't your fault. Could you just answer my questiion." (Not giving them a chance to answer). "Do you have any leads on the witness?"

Magda: "Well, we have one. We were gonna go and check it out, when Raina said you needed to see us."

Kate: "Where?"

Jinny: "His sister's house."

Kate: " Okay, If, he is there this time bring him in for his statment. Okay?"

Magda: "Yeah."

Jinny: "Shure thing." (They both get up and leave her office , and shut the door). "Well Captain was acting a little funny, but not as Raina said she was."

Magda: "No she wasn't, but I could still tell that something was wrong."

Jinny: "Me to, but there's nothing that we can do about it now. We have work to do, and then we can find out what is wrong with Captain."

Magda: "Okay sounds good. Let's go." (they both walked out).

Kate: (She was in her office paseing the floor. She could not think, or do any of her work. The only thing on her mind was Eric Stones. Tom was right she had to get out of there, or at least for a little while. With that she walked out of her office). "Raina I am going for a long lunch if anybody needs me, I will be back in a couple of hours." (She didn't want to but, she ahd to tell Lious that Stones was out of jail. Kate new that her and Lious were about to argue. Lious tried to get her to quite her job after the whole Stone's case, but she wouldn't. Lious could never except that, and that was just part of the reson that they got a divorce in the frist place.)

At Lious's place

Kate:(She was walking up to the door. This was the last place she wanted to be, but Lious had a right to know. She said to herself quitely). "Well this is it." (She knocked on the door, and stepped back from it. She looked down and noticed that the news paperwas still sitting there from this morning, so she picked it up. The door opens up to show Louis, and it is clear that he had just waken-up. Kate looked at him shcoked to see that he was only wearing a pair of boxers).

Lious: (Kate gives him the news papar). "Kate I didn't expect to see you. My place is missed up, but come in."

Kate: (Kate was not suprised to see that his place was missed up). "Just getting up Lious? It's in the middle of the afternoon. I can't believe that you aren't dressed yet."

Lious: "Yes, I did just get up, and sence we aren't married anymore, it is none of your business. What brings you by Kate?"

Kate: "Sorry Lious your right it is none of my business what time you get up. There is something that I need to tell you. This is not easy for me to say so, PLEASE don't make it even harder."

Lious: "Is this about Ross? Are you finely realizeing what a jerk he is?"

Kate: (Trying to stay calm). "No this has nothing to do with Ross>"

Lious: (Worried). It's not about Amanda, is it?"

Kate: "No it's not. She is fine."

Lious: "So what is it about?"

Kate: "I want you to TRY and stay calm. Okay?" (She new he was going to be mad. He had every right to be, but she thought that it was worth a shot).

Lious: "Yeah okay."

Kate: "They let Eric Stone's out of jail. I just came over her to let you know. I thought that you had a right to know."

Lious: (He was ticked). What?! What were they thinking? Look Kate that means that your in danger. What about Amanda? Is she safe?"

Kate: (Trying to stay calm so that maybe he will get calmed down too). "With Amanda out of town for a while yes, I think that she will be safe."

Lious: "Kate, I really think that maybe you should leave town too. That way you will be safe."

Kate: "No, I am not leaving town."

Lious: "Why NOT?! He wants you dead Kate!

Kate: (Getting mad). "You think that I don't know that he wants me dead?!" (Not giving him a time to answer). "I'm NOT running away, if he wants to kill me he'll find me anyway! Running away is the COWARDS'S way out?" (Looking him in the eyes. Makeing her point. She had never forgiven him for running out on her, and Amanda, when she really needed him).

Lious: "What's that supposed to mean?"

Kate: "It means that when ever you can't handle something, or you get scared, YOU runaway!"

Lious: "That's not fair Kate! I am just worried about you. Stones did awful things to you! And now you just want to sit there and wait until he comes after you again?!"

Kate: "I can take care of myself Lious. I don't need you to worrie about me."

Lious: "YOU can take care of yourself?! Is that why Stones kidnapped you? Held you hostage for three days, and killed your partner?! You can't keep your self safe from him. He is crazy, and he wants you DEAD!"

Kate: "You don't have to tell me what he wants to do to me. Listen, I just came here to give you the heads up. I thought that you had a right to know. Now I am leaving, because I have to go back to work."

Lious: "Now WHO'S the one running away? We wouldn't even be her right now, if you had just listen to me back then. When I told you NOT to take the case. Stone's wouldn't be tryign to kill you now, and YOU and I would still be married!"

Kate: (She has had enough of this). "I am not running away Lious. I do have a job to get back too. As far as you balmeing me for everything.....How like YOU Lious! Nothing is ever your FAULT! Well, it is a good thing that I kept my job because, my life has been a H*ll of a lot better with out YOU in it! Goodbye!" (She walks out and slams the door).

Kate: (She gets in her car, and before she could even stop to think she noticed that she was crying. She tried to stop, but she couldn't. About a half hour later she was pulling into the division. She had stopped crying by then. She redid her make-up in hopes that no one would be able to tell that she had been crying. As she was going in she ran into CD). "Oh, uh....hi. How are things going?"

CD: (Raina told her about what had happened earlyer that day. And she could see that she was still upset). "Yes, everthing is okay. Are you alright Captain?"

Kate: "Yes, fine! If one more person asks me that I am going to scream!" (She takes a breath). "I'm sorry I just got some bad news that's all. I didn't mean to take to out on you."

CD: "That's okay, is there anything that I can do to help?"

Kate: "No, but thanks. I'm going to go in now, and see how much work that I have to get cought up on." (They both walk away. Kate is getting ready to walk into her office, and see's Raina). "Raina did I get any messages while I was gone?"

Raina: "No messages, but Haysbert stopped by."

Kate: "Oh great, what did he want?"

Raina: "No, he just asked where you were, and I told him that you were on a long lunch, and that you would be back in a few hours. He walked away before I got a chanve to ask him weither or not, he wanted to leave a message."

Kate: "Okay, thanks Raina." (Kate started walking to her office).

Raina: "Wait Captain there's one more thing..." (As Raina was saying that Kate kept walking and opened her office door to see Ross sitting there). "...Ross is in your office."

Kate: (Half laughing). "Thanks Raina, I can see that. Hi Ross."

Raina: (Both Raina, and Ross are laughing). "Anything that I can do to help! Uh... I think that I will leave now." (She leaves and shuts the door. Leaving Kate and Ross alone).

In Kate's office

Ross: "Hi Kate. How are you?"

Kate: "I am okay. I got some bad news earlyer today, but I think you already know."

Ross: (He is acting like he doesn't know about Stone's being out of jail. Tom called him right after he talked to Kate). "Now why would you say that? I just came by to see how my favorite women it the world was doing. Now aren't I alound to do that?"

Kate: (They both walk towards each other). "Oh, yes you are alound to do that but, I would prefer that you would call frist, because I never know when Charles Haysbert is going to be around. Now tell me how much did Tom tell you?"

Ross: (Takeing her arms and rubbing them gently). He didn't tell me much, just that they realsed a guy from prison and that he did some really bad things to you, and maybe I should stop by and see how you were doing. So here I am. How are you REALLY? I can tell that you have been crying, so don't tell me that you are fine."

Kate: (She puts her head on Ross's shoulder, and he holds her tight now rubbing her back). "As I said I am doing okay. It's hard knowing that they let him out of jail again. It's really a long story that I can tell you later on tonight. I would take a lunch break, but I already took one to go see Lious. I told him about Stone's relsae. He wasn't very happy at all. For once I can't say that I balmed him. We had a huge arugment."

Ross: "I am sorry honey. Really I am. Everthing will be okay." (They start to pull out of their hug, and as they are doing this they start to kiss).

Haysbert: (Comes storming into Kate's office, and Raina is right behind him). "Just what do you think you are doing?!" (Kate's eyes are huge. She can't believe that Charles just walked in on her and Ross Kissing).

Raina: "I am sorry Captain, I tried to stop him."

Kate: (Still in shock). "Um...that's okay Raina. Really, it is not your job to keep people out of MY office."

Ross: " I think that I will be leaving now. Kate I will see you later?"

Kate: "Yes, later...bye." (Raina and Ross walk out of her office togother, and close the door on their way out).

Ross: "You don't think that Haysbert, will give Kate to much truble, do you?"

Raina: "Is the sky blue?"

Ross: "The last thing that I wanted was to make Kate's day even worse. I guess that I willl have to make it up to her later."

Raina: (Very interested in what he has planed for Kate). "And what do you have planed for the Captain?! Huh? I won't tell promise."

Ross: " wouldn't you like to know?! It is a suprise, and if Kate would like you to know, she can tell you tomorrow. Goodbye Raina."

Raina: "Aww, come on just one little hint?"

Ross: "No, bye. (He is walking away).

Raina: "Your no fun....bye."

Back in Kate's office

Haysbert: "Kate didn't you just take a long break. I would have though that you would have left your personal life away from your work. This is a place where you are to be doing your work, not and kissing you boyfriend. So what so you have to say for yourself?"

Kate: "What do I have to say for myself, frist of all what do you have to say for yourself? This is MY office that you came barging into, like you owned the place. YOu do not come into MY office with out knocking frist. I don't care if you are my boss. How would you like it if I came storming into your office without knocking frist?"

Haysbert: "This is not about me Kate this is about you. This is a place for work, and YOU should not have been kissing you boyfriend here. How would you like it if one of your officers were doing that on your watch? You would not like it at all."

Kate: "Your right I would not like that, but it was not what it seemed. I got some bad news, and Ross came by to make sure that I was okay. I was, so he was on his way out, and he gave me a kiss. That is when you came storming into MY office, and made the whole thing like it was some big deal."

Haysbert: "Well then both of you should have done that on your own time, not mine. Where did you go for two hours? I was waiting for you to call me and tell me how Jinny and Magda were doing on their case. So when I didn't hear from you I stopped by here, and that is when Raina told me that you were had left on a long lunch and would be back in a few hours."

Kate: "Look, that was personal too. Which is none of your business. It is a very long story, that I will have to tell you some other time. And that does have to do with work."

Haysbert: "Kate, if it has to do with work then tell me now."

Kate: "Well here is were it gets confuseing it is also personal, so it can wait, at least until tomorrow."

Haysbert: "Okay fine. So what do you know about the case that Jinny and Magda are working on? Did they find their witness?"

Kate: (Looking down, and then back up at him. Knowing that he was about to get mad again). "Well I know that they got a lead. But other then that I really don't know."

Haysbert: "You have wasted most of your day, on your personal life. And now your telling me the one thing that I told you to keep me informed on you have no idea about?"

Kate: "Yes, Haysbert that is what I am telling you." (She looks out, and sees that Magda and Jinny are comeing in with a guy, and figures that it is the witness). "See Charles there they are now, and i bet that, that's their witness."

Haysbert: "Knowing them that is some clown that they picked up off the street, and has nothing to do with their witness."

Kate: "Good then maybe he can make you vanish." (Before he can say anything. Kate walks out of her office. Haysbert is behind her). "Jinny and Magda can I see you two for a secound?"

Magda: (Both Magda and Jinny walk over to where Kate and Haysbert are). "Yes, Captain, what can we do for you?"

Kate: "I have a question. Is that the witness that you two have been looking for?"

Jinny: (Sarastily). "No it is some bum that we picked up off the street."

Kate: (looking right at Haysbert as she says this). "Well it's better then a clown." (Haysbert gives her a dirty look).

Jinny: (Both Jinny and Magda look at each other, then back at Kate. They have no clue what she is talking about). "What? Am I missing something?"

Haysbert: (Looking right at Kate). Never mind it's not important."

Kate: "So is the witness going to make a statment, and testify against the perp?"

Magda: "Well he wants gards to keep him safe, and after he testifys he wants to be put in another location, so that he will be safe. We tired to conivince him that he would be safe, but he said that was the only way that he would testify is if we gave him what he wants."

Jinny: "Do you think that we will be able to get him what he wants?"

Kate: "Charles that is where you come in. This is your part of the job, to get this man his deal."

Haysbert: "I know what my job is. I will see what I can do. I think that there should be no reason that we can't give him what he wants. Now I am going back to me office. Kate can I see you for a secound?"

Kate: "Sure." (She and Haysbert are walking away). "Like I have a choise. What do you want?"

Haysbert: "Just wanted to let you know, eventhough I have work to go and finish, you and I are not done with out talk. Okay?"

Kate: (She felt like she was a child again). You mean that you aren't done yelling at me yet." (She says this next part under her breath). "I can't wait!" (He walks out to go to his office. Kate walks back into her office).

Kate: (Around six-thirty she is trying to finish up her work so, she can go home. It was no use she thought. She was not going to be able to get the rest of it done, so she figured that she would wait until tomorrow. She got up from her chair and started to pack her things up. She started to think what her and Ross where gonna do that night. She grabed her bag, purse and coat, and headed out her office door. She locked her office door, and then shut it. She saw that CD, Jinny, Magda, and Raina were heading out too. She called to them). "Hey ladies, I just wanted to tell you what a good job you did today. I would also like to say that I am sorry to any one of you that I might of snapped your head off today."

CD: "That's okay. Captain, is everything okay? You seem a little down today."

Magda: "Yeah is there anything that we can do to help?" (All of them could tell that there was something still wrong with her).

Kate: "Everything is okay. I just got some bad news today that's all."

Magda: "It wasn't bad new about you daughter was it?"

Kate: "No it wasn't about her if, it had been I wouldn't be here right now. I would have taken the rest of the day off."

Jinny: "Well hey that good news that it was not about your daughter. We were just gonna go and grab a bite to eat if, you want to join us?" (Jinny looked suprised that she had just asked to Captain to join them).

Kate: (Kate looked surpised as well. Jinny was the last that she thought would be asking her that question). "Thanks, but I think that I will just go home. It has beeen a long day."

Raina: "What she means to say is that she has a hot date with Ross."

Kate: (giving her a look). "It is not a hot date. It is just dinner over at my house."

Raina: Okay not a hot date, but uh...when you are done with dinner at least this way you don't have to drive all the way home to make love...all you have to do is go up stairs. And you won't have to worry about Heysbert walking in on you!"

Jinny: (She is laughing). "Oh, my God!" (Laughs more. The rest of them start laughing too). "Haysbert walked in on the two of you while you were doing it?!"

Kate: (Embarassed giving them all a look). "We were just kissing good bye when he walked in. Thats all." (Looking at Raina now. she is jokeing now.) "By the way I am thinking that you would like a paycut! Lets see hear I think that I am forseeing what you will be doing for the rest of you life....oh...wait..its almost here...oh,yes I got it! You Raina dear will be handing out parking tickets for the rest of your life." (Everyone is laughing).

Raina: "Oh, but Captain you know that you love me."

Kate: "oh, yes, just like I love walking over hot coals bare foot, or like a sharp needle in my eye. Ladies I would love to stay here, and chatt but I really do have to go. Goodnight."

Magda: "Good night Cap."

CD: "See you tomorrow."

Raina: "Have fun!"

Jinny: "Night...Don't do anything that I wouldn't do."
(Kate leaves). "Well, Raina I have to thank you."

Raina: "For what?"

Jinny: "For once I am not the one who's in the dog house with the Captain. You are!" (Everyone Laughs).

CD: "yeah, if I were you I would be buying some comfy shows, so that you don't get blisters when you are handing out those partking tickets. (everyone is still laughing).

Raina: "The Captain know that I was just kidding. And she was just kidding about me handing out parking tickets."

Magda: "Uh...huh..sure she was." (they are still laughing). "Come on lets go eat. I'm starving." (They all leave).

Kate is in her car driving on her street when she sees a car in her driveway. She is to far away to see what kind of car it it, but she is scared that it might be Stone's and that he has come to try to hurt her. As she gets closer to the house she realizies that it is Ross's car, and is very relieved and happy to see that.

In Kate's house

Kate: (Walking into the Ketchen) "Hi. It's a good thing that I gave you keys to my house. What are you doing here so early?"

Ross: (He walks over to her, and hugs her, and gives her a kiss). "Well I wanted to suprise you. I didn't want you to have to come home, and have to worrie about cooking. I hope that you are not mad?"

Kate: "Of corse I am not mad. You did surprise me. By the way smells great! I can't wait."

Ross: "It is your favorite. By the way how was the rest of your day? I didn't get you in too much trouble with Heysbert did I?"

Kate: "Uh...he yelled. I yelled back, but no I didn't get into to much truble, and then he had to go back to work. (Looks on the table, which it is already set, and sees her favorite botle of wine chilling.) "I see you have my favorite botle of wine as well. What would I do with out you? You think of everything."

Ross: "Not to change the subject or anything, but what about that guy? Stone's was that it? I don't want to push you into talking about it either. So if you don't want to talk about it that is fine."

Kate: "Yes, Stone's was his name. How about we talk about it after dinner, and a glass of wine. Okay? I will tell you everything then. It is not an easy thing for me to talk about."

Ross: "Of corse we can talk aobut it after dinner. What ever you want.You know that I really care about you, and don't want anything to happen to you."

Kate: "Yes, I do. That is a very sweet thing to say. Don't worrie I won't let anything happen to me. Now what can I do to help?" (Going over to try and help Ross finish makeing dinner.)

Ross: "Oh, no you don't. Your not lefting a finger tonight. Now you just go, and sit down there. Would you like a glass of wine?"

Kate: Okay wait why aren't you letting me do anything? And if, I want a glass of wine I can get it myself." (Reaches over to get the wine bottle, when Ross runs over and gets it and poors the wine into her glass.)

Ross: "I just want you to rest let me take care of you, for once pamper you. It is will deserved."

Kate: " Okay I am not going to aregue with you, if you want to do all the work tonight You go right ahead. I won't stop you." (laughs. She pulls him into a kiss, and then pulls away.) "Thank you. You are the greast man in the world!"

Ross: "Your very welcome. I would do anything for you." (he puts dinner on the table, and they start are talking.)

Kate: "So how was your day? Anything interesting, or fun happen?"

Ross: "Well you see I went and saw my grilfriend at work." (He starts to smile). "It was so much fun, but then her mean boss came in, and spoiled all the fun, and she had to go back to work."

Kate: (Playing along) "And this grilfriend of yours is she pretty. I must say that she is real lucky to have a man in her life like you."

Ross: "Oh, Yes, She is the most beautful person in the world! No one compares to her."

Kate: (they both start leaning over the table). "I am soooo jelouse of her."

Ross: (They are both starting laughing). "Stop talking, and Kiss me!"

Kate: " Your wish...." (they start kissing again). " Wow that was great! Dinner was too. I'll start doing the dishess."

Ross: I Take it you were not listening to me when I said that you were not going to left a hand tonight?"

Kate: "No I was listening, but I though that you would like some help."

Ross: "Nope I don't need any help." Why don't you go in the family room and, read for a little while. I do the dishess. I will be in there in a little while."

Kate: "Are you sure?"

Ross "I am sure." (She gives him a kiss befor she leaves.)

Kate: (Is sitting in her family room trying to read her book,but she can't. That is when Ross comes in. He has the rest of the bottle of wine whith him. Kate noticess that, and makes a joke.) "Are you tryin to get me drunk so, that you can take advantage of me?"

Ross: (Takeing her glass and toping it off with more wine). "So what if I am?"

Kate: (Ross sits down on the couch next to Kate, and puts his arms around her, and kisses her on the cheek. She smiles). " I might like that, but I would like to talk to you frist."

Ross: "Okay honey. I want you to know that I'm here for you. No matter what."

Kate: "I know that you are and that means a lot to me. Really it does." (She takes a deep breath in, and lets it out). "I don't know where to begin. You know I always think that I am past what Stone's did to me, and then suddenly, I hear his name,or whatever and it's it takes me right back to that time. All my emotions come fludeing back to that time." (A tear runs down the side of her cheek. Ross wipes it away). "I am suprised that I just didn't fall apart at work today. I'm alse suprised that I've cried only once today."

Ross: "That was right after you saw Lious. Right?"

Kate: "Right. I thought that he should know that Stone's was out of jail. He had a right to know."

Ross: "Is that what the two of you argued about?"

Kate: (Getting angry, but not at Ross, or his qestion). "Yes, he never wanted me to take the Stone case anyway. I will get to our argument later, but frist I want to tell you what happen with stone."

Ross: "Okay Kate. Whenever you are ready?"

Kate: "Now is as good a time as ever. It is a little different on how I got involved in the stone case. (She takes a deep breth in and out. She is thinking back to when it all happend). A friend of mine from high school called me this one night. I think that Amanda was around five at the time. Anyway, this friend of mine's name was Connie. She had a drug problem. My friends and I tried to ger her help, but she didn't want it. I hadn't talked to her in years. She asked me to meet her at a bar. She needed money. I wasn't going to go, but she was desperate. She told me that someone was going to kill her if she didn't give them the money. I didn't know what I should do." ( She looked Ross in the eyes. He could tell this was really hard for her. Kate's eyes looked sad. She was trying not to cry).

Ross: "So you went to the bar?"

This part of the story is a little harder for me to write, so I am sorry if it is really bad. Let me know what you think!!!


Kate: "So I went to the bar. It was in a really bad nighborhood. I walked into the bar. It was obvious that this was a place where all the drugies and the prostitute's hung out. I looked all around the place for Connie. I couldn't find her. Finley I went back around to the bar, and saw her sitting there. My God Ross, she looked awful. Connie looked like she should have been dead. She had no color in her face. She was so pale and she had these circles under her eyes. Not only that but she had lost all this wait. There was nothing to her but skin and bones. She looked like she should have been on her death bed."

Ross:"It must have been really hard to see your friend like that?"

Kate: (Puts her head down, and then looks back at Ross). Yes, it was." (Kate was suprised that she was staying so calm). "She told me about the man who was threating her.

Ross: "That would be Stone's. Right?"

Kate: "Right. She told me how he had killed other women befor. She said that he would beat the crap out of them, and then when they would beg for him to stop, she would take his gun and shoot them in the forhead. I told her that it sounded like this case that the police were trying to solve, but they couldn't find the guy. I told her that she needed to go down to the police station and make statement, but she said that she wouldn't. That if she did he would kill her. I told her that I would be with her, and they could give her police protection, but she still said no. Then it was the stargest thing that happend. Connie got really scared and nerveious all of the suden. I asked her what was wrong? She said that the guy that was threating her just walked in the door. I told her to calm down that I would take care of it she got even more scared, and begged me not to tell him that I was a cop. The trouth was Ross that I knew that I couldn't tell him that I was a cop. I didn't have any back-up to help me, and if he was as dangerus as Connie thought that he was then I could have been killed that night. So I told her to relax that I wasn't going to do that."

Ross: "So what did you do?"

Kate: "Well, I didn't have much time to think, because he saw Connie, and started comeing over to us.

Kate: "I thought you know maybe if I took her to the police station that maybe she would change her mind about makeing a statement. So that is where I took her.

Ross: "Did that change her mind?"

Kate: "No she didn't. So I made the statment to my Captain at the time. Told him everthing that Connie had told me about him. The thing is that they could not arrest him, because they didn't have any evidence to prove that Connie's clams were true, and she was not that great of a wintess, because of the drugs. That is when they desided to put me undercover to solve the case with my partner. Her name was Beth. We worked on the case for months, and had gotten a lot of illegal stuff on Stone's but we could not prove that he was the one killing all those women. But we knew that he was the one. We were just waiting for him to make a mistake. I could not stand the guy he made me sick. This one day he told me how much he trusted me but, that he knew that I would lie, or do something to betray him, and that when I did he would kill me.

Ross: "This guy sounds like he was A psychopath."

Kate: "Oh, he was that and so much more. I haven't even told you the HALF of it."

Ross: "I'm sorry I don't mean to keep on interrupting."

So what do you think?

Kate: "You can ask questions. Becides if I am doing all the talking it might get kinda boreing. I kinda like the interrupions."

Ross: "Nothing you say could be boreing Kate. So what happened next?"

Kate: "Well after a coulple of months we got this huge lead, the latest women that had been killed had fought back more then the others. She some how cut the guy that was trying to kill her, and so, there was his blood there too. Now all we needed was Stone's DNA. Well before we got that info back I was to have one other meeting with him. I had a microphone on that you could not see, and Beth was souposed to be in the van listening as my back-up. What we did not know at the time was that Eric Stone's had found out that we were cops, and had a plan of his own for us."

Ross: "How did he find out that you were cops?"

Kate: "You know I am really not sure. I think that it might have been Connie, because she ended up dead too, but I am not sure, if it was her or not."

Ross: "I am really sorry about Connie. That must have been really hard on you."

Kate: "It was, but in a way she was already dieing a slow death with the drugs. That does not mean though in any way that I think that it was okay for someone to kill her."

Ross: "I know that honey. So what happend next?"

Kate: "Stone's told me that there was this party that a whole bunch of people where gonna be at. I got this really bad feeling, but I still went along with him, because I new that Beth was in the van, and if, anything bad happend she would call back-up, and help me. What I didn't know was that Stone's had two of his buddys go, and somehow, they got Beth out of the van. So I went with Stones. My bad feeling got even worse, when we showed up to what looked to be an empty warehouse. We got out of the car. I had my hand on my gun the whole time just in case something happend. We got up to the door, and Stone's opened it, and that is when I saw Beth. They had a gun to her head. They told me to drop my gun or they would kill her."
(She is trying hard not to break down, and Ross is try hard not to do the same for her). "You know we are trained for this kind of thing, but you will never know what you will do until you get into a situation like that. They really don't train you enough. I had to make a choise do I put down the gun, and not only do they kill Beth, but they kill me too, Or do I take the chance and put down the gun and they still kill Beth, and me. I was in a no win situation, so I put down my gun. I will never for the rest of my life forget the look on Beth's face. She knew that she was going to die, and it was all my fault. They already had handcuffs on her. When I tried to fight them they still beat me,and then they put the handcuffs on me. There was this poll in the middle of the room that they handcuffed me to. Stone's , and his buddys made me watch while they beat the life out of Beth. I begged cried, and pleaded with them to stop, but they wouldn't. Stone's told me that this was my punishment, for lieing to him that I would have to watch my friend die, and then I was going to die too!" (Kate is starting to cry now Ross holds her, but she keeps telling her story). "When Beth was just about dead Stone's took out his gun, and shot her in the head like he had a the other women that he had killed. Then he said that it was my turn. I had to think fast. The one thing that I kept thinking about was Amanda, and how I couldn't leave her. She needed her mommy. So I told them that they would not get a way with killing a cop. That they would hunt them down, and kill them, and they had already killed one cop. So I asked them what they thought the cops would do to them after killing two cops. They didn't answer me, so then I told them that the police would get cought up with them, and when they did they would need a hostage, and that they would not shot at a cop, so I would be their best bit for a hostage. They went along with that. Other wise I would not be here today. I just wish that Beth was here too. It was all my fault that she died." (Kate is crieing even harder now).

Ross: "Kate that was not your fault. There was nothing that you could have done. If you had kept the gun in your had they would have shot the both of you. Amanda would have grown up with out a mother. YOU mand the right choise."

Kate: "I know, but sometimes I wonder if, I did make the right choise. I mean I will never really know."

Ross: (Kate is still crieing, but not as hard again). How long did they keep you hostage? How did you get out of the warehouse, and away from Stone's and his buddys?"

Kate: "They Kept me hostage for three days. In those three days that they did have me they beat me more then once, but I can't tell you how many times that they did. I think that for the frist day I was in some kind of shock. The only time that they would uncuff me is if, I had to go to the bathroom. The frist couple times that they uncuffed me I tried to get away, but it didn't work. Then finely I decided that I was going to wait a while before, I tried to excape again. That way they would start to trust me. Finely on the third day Stone's, and the other guy went out someplace, but said that they would be back. That left me with one guy. I told him that I had to go to the bathroom. He said he didn't no if, he should let me go. I beged, and finely he said okay. He took off my handcuffs and walked me to the bathroom. I walked inside,and shut the door. he told me not to take to long. There was this hand towel bar that was on the wall. I thought to myself that if I could ripe that off I could have a weapen against this guy. So I ripped it off the wall. The guy asked what was going on. I new that if I didn't answer he would come in that is what I wanted so I didn't answer. He walked in, and I hit him with the bar.

Kate: "I hit him with the bar in the stomach, and while he was bent over in pain I hit him in the head with the bar. He fell over in pain. I then hit him one more time in the head to make him pass out, and he did so, I took the handcuffs, and I dragged him over to the poll and cuffed him to the poll. I ran for the door, but it was locked. I went back and found keys in the guys pockets, and I took his gun for protection just in case I ran into Stones, and the other guy. I ran until I found a pay phone. I called the police station that I worked at. I talked to one of the officers, and told him where I was and what was going on. He told me that he was going to send help. It took them about ten to fifteen minutes to get there. It felt like a lifetime."

Ross: "I bit it did. Honey I am sorry that you had to go threw all that." (Hugs her and kisses her forehead).

Kate: "It was a real hard time in my life, but I got threw it. It is just real hard to talk about. I mean Lious, and I were still married at the time, but he never wanted to talk about it. Now I have you, and you are the best thing to happen to me in a long time."

Ross: "Oh, Kate, you mean so much to me. I never want anything bad to happen to you like that again."

Kate: "Well see Ross there's still more to the story it doesn't end there. Believe me I wish that it did, and only God knows what Stones will do now that he is out of jail."

Ross: "I'm sorry Kate. What happened next?"

Kate: "My Captain at the time was one of the first people to get there. I told him that they had killed Beth. My Captain told me that they new that, because they had found her body yesterday. Then I told him that I wanted to go back in the warehouse and be the one to arrest Stone's. My Captain told me no, that I needed an ambulance. He said that I was pretty badly beaten. Then, he said because your to personally involved in the case right now. We need someone who is going to do this by the book. I told him that I hadn't gotten this far in the case to ruin the case against Stones by not doing things by the book. The Captain wouldn't allow me to do it. He said that if, he had to he would force me on the ambulance, so I went." (She say this very saractially and upset). "You will never guess what the arresting officer did, or should I say didn't do?"

Ross: "What?"

Kate: "The damn arresting officer never read Stone's his damn rights! Stone's lawyer was real good. She had all the charges dismissed, so Stone's got away with killing Beth, and all those other. All because of one officer!"

Ross: "How did you finely get him behind bars?"

Kate: "Well there was still all the stuff that Beth, and I had got on him while we were under cover, so they arrested him again, and this time they read him his rights."

Ross: "How long was he supposed to stay in jail the first time?"

Kate: "The first time he was sentenced it was for fifteen years with chance of parole in ten."

Ross: "It sounds like he got off with a slap on his hand. I mean all those women that he killed. I understand that they didn't do all that by the book, but it just seems so unfair that he only had to spend ten years in prison."

Kate: "You are so right it was not fair, but it gets even better."

Ross: "Why? What happened?"

Kate: "Stones only spent eight years behind bars the first time."

Ross: "WHAT? What is wrong with this system?"

Kate: "As I said earlier his lawyer was really good. Still is. You know I really should have known that something was up, because the whole time that Stones was in jail the first time he sent me letters threating to kill me. Then one day they just stopped."

Ross: "Wait just one minute Kate, he was sending you death threats? What did they do about it?"

Kate: "Nothing."

Ross: "NOTHING?!"

Kate: "There was nothing that they could do, Ross. There was no proof that he was the one sending them to me."

Ross: "Then how do you know that he was the one sending them to you?"

Kate: "Because he is the only one that calls me Katy. The name that I maid up, when we first meet. I really hate that name now."

Ross: "That's just wrong there should be a way to prove that he is the one sending you the notes. What about finger prints?"

Kate: "There is never any finger prints on the notes, or evidence of any kind."

Ross: "How did you find out that he got paroled the first time?"

Kate: "Well it was like I was saying his notes stopped coming. I should have known that something was up, but I was just so happy that the notes stopped that I didn't even think that he could have been out of jail, and I thought that if, he was, then someone would have let me know."

Ross: "Like Tom?"

Kate: "Yes, like Tom. Anyway, one day I was walking out of work to my car, when I heard someone call Katy. I just froze."

Kate: "I turned around slowly. I didn't speek. I couldn't no WORDS were forming. I couldn't yell nothing. Then he said what's the matter Katy cat got your tounge? I told him no. Then I said aren't you supposied to be behind bars? Stone's said no that he got off on parole. He started comeing near me. I told him that if, he came any closer that I would yell, and someone would come running to help me. He said now katy don't go do that you will spoil all my fun. Then he said that he, and I had a lot of things to get cought up on. I said NO we don't. Now leave before I have you arrested for harassing me. He told me that he would not go away until he said what he had to. I said fine say it, and go! That is when he said that he was going to make me pay for the years that he spent in jail."

Ross: "Kate that was a threat. Doesn't that mean that you could have put him back behind bars?"

Kate: "Oh, yes I could have, but what good would that have done me. He would have been out of jail within a few hours. He never got a chance to lay a finger on me that day. Two other police officers walked over and asked if everything was okay? With that Stone's ran off."

Ross: "What did you do?"

Kate: "What do you think that I did. I went back inside, and called Tom to find out what was going on. He didn't even know that Stone's was out of jail. I couldn't beleive it. Tom looked into it, and found out that it was true that they had let Stones out on parole. You know what the worst thing about it was, or at least at that time it was?

Ross: "What?"

Kate: "Lious, and I had just started working out our problems, then he found out that Stones had been let out of jail. He kept telling me that I should quit my job. Run away, but I couldn't. I mean what would I have been teaching Amanda? I would have been teaching her that running away was okay."

Ross: "So Stone's is the reason that you and Lious broke up? (Makeing a joke). "I guess there is one good thing about stone's."

Kate: "Mr.Markham it's a good thing that I like you!" (She pulls him into a long kiss, finely they stop). "Thanks I needed that. Well I asmost forgot what we were even talking about. ALMOST."

Ross: "Your welcome. Well now that I am not makeing you forget where you were go on."

Kate: (Jokeing) Yes, Sir! I don't know why I am joking I guess that I need too. But I have to go back to what happend. Lious and I were arugeing all the time, about everthing. One night we decided that for Amanda we were not going to fight like we had been, so everything was going better for us. Then one day after work I came home and I was going to go threw the front door when I noticed that Stone's was sitting on one of my chairs. I pulled out my gun, and told him that if he didn't leave that I would shoot him. He said that he wasn't going anywere. Thank God that Amanda wasn't there, but she could have come home at any time. I said that he had one minute to leave and then I was going to shoot! He said no you won't I am an unarmed man you would lose your job. Then he said that all he was doing was takeing a walk, and got tired. How was he suposed to that it was my house? I told him that he was full of it,and to leave before I called the cops, and had him arrested for vandalism. He said what vandalism? he had not touch anything on my house. Ross I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I was thiking that he could have come here, and done anything to Amanda. I didn't want anything to happen to her."

Ross: " What did you do Kate?"

Kate: "I said to him oh, really, and then I took, my gun, and I broke my window with it. I said now who do you think that the police are gonna believe YOU, or ME? Then he said Oh, Katy I didn't know that you had it in you. Then I walked over to one of my flower pots, and I knocked that over, and said now leave, before I break anything else, and blame in on you. Then he walked closer to me, and I aimed my gun right for his heart.

Kate: "He started coming for me, so I aimed my gun for his heart. He just started laughing at me. He said that I didn't have the nerve to shot him. I told him to come closer and he would find out. Then Lious pulled up in his car. Stones told me that we weren't threw and that he would be back, then he ran away. Lious said that he was going to call the cops. I told him not to, because it wouldn't be worth it. Lious was ticked, and asked, why? I told him that Stone's lawyer would just get the charges dropped. Lious and I got into another huge argument, and he stormed out of the house. It seemed like whenever I needed Lious the most he was never there. He was always running away."

Ross: "Kate I'm so sorry. If it helps any I am here for you now. It sounds like Stones was trying to torture you until you just broke down."

Kate: "It does mean a lot that you are here for me. Yes, that is just like Stones he gets his victims to the breaking point, and then he kills them. But It was different with me the way that he tried to kill me."

Ross: "How did he try to kill you?"

Kate: "I was leaving work one day. I had just gotten a brad new car. The frist one that I was able to get in a LONG time. I loved that car. Anyway, I went to get into my car, when I saw one of the officers come running out of the police station. I put my keys in,and turned on the car. I saw that the officer was comming towards me, so I got out of the car. She told me that I had a phone call from Amanda. I new that I had to take it incase there was something wrong. I went to go back to the car, to turn it off when it exploded! The explosion threw me back words."

Now I am leaving ya hanging! Let me know what all of you think!

I am going to try, and write more now. I hope that all of you like it, because right now I really don't know what to write. I know what I want to happen, but I dont know what to write. anyway here it goes......

Ross: "Oh, God Kate you could have been killed."

Kate: "Yes, I could have been but I wasn't. I just had a few bumps and bruses and a mild head injury, so the hospital wanted to keep me over night.

Ross: "Let me guess there was no evdiance to prove that Stone's had put the bomb in your car?"

Kate: "No there wasn't but, he was arrested that night anyway. For once Stone's made a mistake. A huge one."

Ross: "What was it?"

Kate: "He went to kill anoter women that night. For the frist time he had no control over what he did. I think it was because, that day he wasn't able to kill me, so he went after someone else. For the most part when he would try and kill someone he would take them to a place where if they yelled no one could hear them. He didn't do that this time he tried to kill her in her own apparment. The neighbors heard, and called the cops. He was arrested."

Ross: "What happend after that?"

Kate: "They took him in and questioned him. when I was aloud to leave the hospital the next day I went to see him. The first thing that he said to me was that he was sorry to here about my car. I said to him so you were the one that put the bomb in it? He said now why would I do that? I said because you hate me and want me dead. Before he could answer his lawyer came in, and told me that I had no right to be questiong him about my car, that he had nothing to do with, and that there was no evdiance to prove that, and if I kept on questioning him about it that She would have a law suite aganist me. So I left."

Ross:"So he went back to jail after that?"

Kate: "Yes he did, but the death threats still kept comeing." (Kate's face changed it was not sad anymore, but angry, and ticked).

Ross: (He notices that, and asks). "What is it Kate?"

Kate: "Well you see when he went to prison he prison again it was around Amanda's birthday. Stone's normaly doesn't send the death threats in the mail he sends me them at work. Anyway sence it was Amanda's birthday she was getting a lot of birthday cards in the mail, so when another card that said Amanda's name on it came I didn't even think about it. She was opening up her cards when she picked up one, and opened it, and started reading it. I will never forget what her face looked like. She got real upset, and scared, and said will this guy ever leave us alone, and then she ran up the stars."

Kate: "I picked up the note, and read it. My God, Ross, the things he said to Amanda in there. Had he been standing there himself I think that I would have killed him."

Ross: "What kinds of things did he say to Amanda?"

Kate: (Kate had shut down at this point. She didn't want to talk about what was in the note). "I really don't want to talk about what was in the note. I am sorry I just can't."

Ross: "That is okay Kate. I understand. You will tell me when your ready."

Kate: (She new that she would never be ready to tell him what was in that note. It was to hard for her. She shook, her head, and said), "Yeah." (Then she stood up, and walked acrossed the room).

Ross: (He new that whatever, was in that note it was something awful. She had never shut him out like this before. He wanted to go over to her, but he didn't think that she could take it right now). "Um...Honey, did you follow Amanda up the stairs after you read the note?"

Kate: (Kate was looking out her window). "Huh?"

Ross: "Did you follow Amanda up the stairs after you read the note?"

Kate: (Her mood had changed not only had she shut down, but now she was in protective mode, wither it was because of Amanda or herself, or both, Ross wasn't sure. Ross thought had Stone's been in that room at that moment Kate would have killed him without blinking her eyes, and that scared him). "Yes, I did." (Her answers had become real short now).

Ross: "And what happend?"

Kate: (Raiseing her vioce). "You know Ross, I just don't want to talke about it."

Ross: (He walks over to Kate, and puts his hands on her arms, and goes to rub her arms, but Kate walks away from him). "Honey, you don't have to talk about it. Okay? I don't want to push you away."

Kate: "(she turns around to look at him. She looks down, and then back up at him). "I'm sorry. Your not pushing me away. This is just real hard for me to talk about. That man is a MONSTER, and now he is out of jail again, and he won't STOP until I am dead!"

Kate: "You don't know him like I do. This man has nothing but, hate and wants vengents against me. Being on a death bed won't stop him from comeing after me. He wants me DEAD. What don't you get about that?!"

Ross: " Okay, honey I'm sorry." (He walks over to her and hugs her, and this time she lets him). "I don't want you upset is a matter of fact I wanted tonight to be real nice, after the bad day that you had."

Kate: "It's not your fault. I guess...I guess that I needed to explode. I'm sorry, cause your not the one that I'm mad at."

Ross: "Honey, I know that." (He kisses her).

Kate: (She pulls out of the kiss, but is still holding on to him. She is looking him in the eyes). "Can we finish this talk some other time?"

Ross: "Yeah sure. When ever you want."

Kate: "Thanks." (She het this smile on her face). "Why don't we go up stairs?"

Ross: (Not wanting to push Kate anymore). "I thought that you would never ask." (They walked up the stairs holding each others hand. They got to her bed room and started kissing each other. They got to the lamp turned off the light, and fell onto the bed. Kate laughed).

Ross: (A few hours later. Ross is holding Kate in his arms. Kate eyes were shut, but she was still awake. He wasn't even thinking what he was saying). "Kate I love you."

Kate: (Her eyes popped wide open. This was the first time he said that to her. She was suprised, but more then anything scared, because she didn't want to her hert again). "I...I....I....I'm sorry." (That was all she could say. She rolled away from Ross).

Ross: (Thinking to himself. That was stupid of me. She wasn't ready for me to say them). "Kate it is okay. You don't have to say that you love me." (A part of him was hert. Most of it being his ego, but he new why she wasn't able to say those words. He put his arm around her). "Lets pretend that I didn't say that okay?"

Kate: "But you did. You know waht lets just talk about it in the morning. I am really tired, and need some sleep." (She new that she wasn't going to be able to sleep).

Ross: "okay." (He kept his arm around her until he fell alseep).

Kate: (She layed there on her back looking at the sealing. She couldn't sleep. Finely her eyes closed, and she fell alseep).

In the morning

Kate: (she wakes up, and roles over to see what time it is. It is six-thrity, it is a half hour before her alrme clock goes off. She turns over to see Ross still sound alseep. She gets up as quite as she can, so she doesn't wake up Ross. She turns off her alrme. Kate goes to take a nice hot shower. She was still very tence from the night before. She thought that A nice hot shower would help with some of the tension.

A forty-five minutes later. Kate is ready for work, and goes back in her bedroom, and sees that Ross in not in the bed anymore, so she goes into the ketchion. She smells food. "Good morning. It smells good. I thought that you were still alseep.

Ross: "No I got up about a half hour ago. It is ready if you want some?" (He wasn't sure if he should bring up the night before. He thought that if she wanted to talk about it that she would say something, so he didn't say anything).

Kate: "Yeah, I will have some. I am not that hungry though, so I will only have a little. I was thinking about last night, about what you said. I would just like to say that I am sorry that I didn't say it back."

Ross: "Kate, if you can't say that you love me that is okay. I understand. Really I do."

Kate: "No it is not okay. The truth is I am afraid. I don't like to have to depend on anyone. I did that once, and I got hurt, I don't want to do that again."

Ross: "I understand that Kate. It will take time for you let let your self be able to trust someone again."

Kate: "I am gald that you understand Ross, because I don't. I know that you care, about me, and that you don't want to see me hurt. I...it's just....I will. It's hard for me to say."

Ross: "Kate just tell me. I won't get mad if that is what you are worried about."

Kate: (Makes a half joke). Even if, you did get mad I could take care of you. All jokes aside. You know I trusted Lious to be there for me for good times, and bad, and when I realized that he wasn't going to be. I took care of everything myself. So it is hard for me to let someone in. i am afraid that if I do, then when things get tough, they will run away like Lious did."

Ross: "Kate I am NOT Lious. I will not leave you when things get tough, unless you want me too."

Kate: I know that you are not him, but that doesn't mean that you won't run away like he did."

Ross: "You have my word. I know that does not mean much right now, but it is the truth. I need you know that."

Kate: "Some part of me knows that you will not run away. You are not that type of man. There is just another part of me that has the doubt."

Ross: (He leans in for a kiss). "Well we will just have to change that. Won't we?" (They kiss).

Kate: (Laughs). "Yes, we will." (They start to eat). Food is good. What time do you work today?"

Ross: Thanks. I don't have to work until twelve today. So I won't get off until later."

Kate: "Will that is a good thing then. It will give me a chance to get cought up on some work."

Ross: "Well, after you get cought up with work, and I am done with work, would you like to do something?"

Kate: "Uh...Ross. I don't want to be mean, but......I really would like to be alone tonight." (She was not trying to push him away. She just really needed her space to think things out. Her life was being turn upside down, and she didn't know what to do about it).

Ross: "That is okay Kate. I don't want to puch you. If you need anything. Anything at all just call okay?"

Kate: "Okay I will." (They both finished eatting). "Well, I hate to do this, but if, I don't leave now I will be late for work. Don't worrie about the dishes I will do them later."

Ross: "I will do them now. I don't have to be at work until later. Kate i want you to be every careful. Just be on the look out okay?"

Kate: "Don't worrie I will. You take care of yourself too. Okay? I will talk to you later." (They kiss, and then she grabs all her stuff for work, and then leaves).

Kate: (Walking into the division. CD and Nate were right behind Kate. Jinny and Magda were talking about a case that they were working on, and Raina was at her desk). "Good morning everyone.

Raina: "Morning Cap" (She gets this huge smile on her face). "So Uh....how was last night?" (Everone lookd up wanting to know).

Kate: (Giving her a look). "None of your business." (Sees that they are all looking at her). Don't you all have work to do?"

Jinny: "I can see that someone didn't get any last night."

Kate: "I am still standing her Jinny. I can hear you. you know?"

Jinny: "Yeah I know so what is your point? It was just a joke. Sorry. I didn't mean to make you mad."

Kate: "I don't have time for this I have work to do. Riana do i have any messages?"

Riana: "One guess who?" (Kate gives her another look). Sorry. It was Haysbert. He said that he would stop by this morning."

Kate: "Does that man ever sleep." (She goes to unlock her office, and Raina is following her), Anymore Messges?"

Raina: "Yes, two more."

Kate: (She opens her door, and sees that her office has been torn apart. Everything is all over the place. On the wall in all red captail letters it says "KATY YOU WILL DIE!")

Kate: (She couldn't believe that someone could get into her office. There were people that worked all night in the division, so one of them should have been able to see that someone was in her office doing this. She new who had done it. It was Stones, but how did he get into her office without anyone seeing him? Before she had time to say anything there was someone calling her name. She turned around to see Charles, but she still didn't say anything she just looked at him, and waited for him to say something else. Everyone else in the room was listening to what was going on).

Charles: "Kate I have been calling your name. Why haven't you responded up until now?"

Raina: "Before you give her a hard time maybe, you should look in her office." (Kate gives Raina a look).

Charles: (Looking into Kate's office). "What in the H*ll happend here?"

Kate: "What's it look like?"

charles: " I know what it looks like, but who, and how were they able to get into your office?"

Kate: "I believe that the person who did this is a guy named Stones. I am sure that you have heard of the case, and why the guy hates me. Anyway he was let out of jail yesterday."

Charles: "Yes, I have heard of the case. Didn't he try to put a bomb in your car?"

Kate: "He didn't try he did put a bomb in my car, and it went off. I was very lucky." (Everyone in the room is suprised, because they haven't heard any of this before).

Charles: "Did anyone who was working last night see anything?"

Kate: "I don't know. I just got here right before you you did." (Before Charels gets a chance to ask anything else Kate looks at Raina, and says). "Could you call all the people who worked last night and ask them if, they saw anything or, anyone that should not have been here?"

Raina: "Yeah sure thing." (Jinny, and Magda are about to walk over to see if, they can do anything to help, when Jinnys phone rings).

Jinny: "Inspector Exstead. okay we will be there. Okay, bye. Hey Magda we have to go. It is a case that we are working on."

Magda: "Okay. Captain if, there is anything that we can do let us know. Okay?"

Kate: "Okay I will. Thanks. Becareful." (CD, and Nate were in Kate's office collecting any evidence that they could find).

Jinny and Magda in the car

Magda: "I hope everything is oakay with the Cap."

Jinny: "Yeah me too."

Magda: "I wonder what else that guy did to Cap?"

Jinny: I do too. That explains though why she was so, on edge yesterday. Well when we get back form this lead that we have we can go, and find out if there is anything that we can do."

Magda: "Yeah we can. Lets go."

Back in the division

Kate: (She has been telling them everything that Stone's had done to her, and everything else). "So that is why the guy hates me, and wants me dead."

CD: (She is still looking around her office for any evidence that she can find). "That guy sounds like he is crazy. Do you think that he will try, and kill you again?"

Kate: "Yes, I do. I don't think that he has anything to lose this time."

Charles: "We don't even know that it was this Stone's guy that was the one that did this to your office."

Kate: "Who else whould it have been Charles?" (Before he got a chance to say anything Raina came walking over, and said).

Raina: "I just talked to officer Roberts, and he seems to be the only one that noticed something different." (Cd walks over to them with something in her hand).

CD: "Captain I think that you should take a look at this."

Kate: "Okay let Raina finish, and then I will look at it." (Looks at Raina in a way that is telling her to go on).

Raina: "Roberts said that we had a new janitor. He asked where the old one was, and new janitor said that he was just filling in for him for that night. That the old one was sick with the flu or something."

CD: (She was almost pushing the paper into Kate face). I REALLY think that you should take a look at this.!"

Kate: (Getting some golves on so she doesn't put her prints on the paper, and takeing it form CD. Haysbert is reading over her shoulder).


The note reads
My Dear Katy,

oh, my how I have missed you. I was trying to find a way to get to you, but your janitor wouldn't help me so I had to take care of him. If, you would like to know where he is all you have to do is look out in the dumpster. I am sure that he hasn't moved!

until we meet again,
guess Who?

Kate: "OH, my god! (She runs for the the elvator, and CD, and Nate are with her. They get outside to where the dumpuster is and they look inside, and they see the janitor's dead body.) "This can't be happening again!"

Nate: "Uh, why don't you go back upstairs, and we will take care of this. Okay Captain?"

Kate: "Okay I think that I will." (She is back up stairs).

Haysbert: "So did you find the Janitor?"

Kate: (She looks down, and then back up at him). Yes, we did he was dead." (All of this was getting to Kate she was starting to feel sick). "Raina did you tell officer Roberts to come in, and give us a statment as to what this guy looks like?"

Charles: "I told her to do that once all of you went running down the stairs."

Kate: "Okay good." (Raina's phone rings).

Raina: "Hello, Raina Washington. Oh God is he okay?! Did you call an amblance?! Okay Keep me informed. I will let the Captain know. I hope that he is okay."

Kate: "Not more bad news. Please tell me that it is not more bad news?!" (She was starting to feel even wrose).

Raina: "I am sorry Captain.....it's.....uh...more...uh bad news.

Charles: "Okay will then spit it out."

Raina: Um...well officer Roberts was shot getting into his car on his way here. His wife doesn't know much, but to say that the amblace was on there way. She didn't see who shot him. She said that she will let us know how he is doing." (Kate wasn't saying anything). "So, um...do you think that it was Stone's?"

Kate: (Her head was starting to spen at this point). "Yes, I do."

Charles: "You don't know that for sure. It could be anyone."

Kate: "Yes, it could, but it is not. I know that man, he is the only one that calls me Katy. It IS him!" (She had to get out of there for a few minutes she thought that she was going to get sick). "Excuse me I have to go to the bathroom." She walked into the bathroom, and once she was in there she had to run to the torlet so, she could get sick. When she was done she heard someone behind her she turned around to see Raina).

Raina: "How are you doing Captain?"

Kate: (She now noticed that she was haveing a hard time breathing. She was holding her chest). I will be fine. I just need a few minutes to calm down. If, you tell anyone one what happend in here to day though. You will be the one with the problem. You got that?!"

Raina: (Handing her a wet paper towel so she can wipe her face). "Yeah I got it." (She felt bad for her, and wanted to do something for her, but she didn't know what). "Can I get you some water or something?"

Kate: "No thanks I can get it. You don't happen to have any mints, or gum, for my breath do you?" (She is starting to breath easyer now. She had hoped that she wasn't haveing that hard time of breathing in front of Charles. He was the last person that she needed to see that, but she also didn't want to ask Raina).

Raina: "Yeah I have some." (She goes, and grabs them and hands them to Kate). "Here you go. Well the color is starting to come back into your face."

Kate: "Thanks. Could you leave me alone for a few minutes. I will be out there in a few."

Raina: "Yes, I can. If there is anything that you need just ask."

Kate: "Okay I will. Thanks." (A few minutes later she had calemd herself down, and walked back out).

I won't be posting anymore for a while. I have ten days before I am getting married. I guess sence today is over with you could say that i have nine days. I have a lot that I have to do until then. I will post more of the fanfic after I get back from my honeymoon. Until then I hope that all of you like what I have written so far.

She walks over to see if the officers that had taken over Cd and Nate place in her office, since both of them were searching the dumpster where the dead janitor was. She saw that Charles was still standing there. She thought to herself, "I really wish that he would leave I could handle all of this much better if he wasn't standing over me watching every move that I make. Then again..." She thought, "Why don't you just tell him that you can handle this." But she new that he wouldn't leave). "Charles, why don't you leave I am sure that you have work to do. I can handle this."

Haysbert: "I think that I will stick about for a little while. Until we know more about who is doing this."

Kate: (She roled her eyes as she was turning away from Charles to look at the officers in her office. She knew who was doing this. And if for just once Charles would just listen to her, instead of giving her a hard time about it). "So, have you found anymore evdance in my office?"

Raina: "No we haven't. Sorry Captain."(Before Kate got a chance to say anything a women came up to them and said.)

Dana: (With a smerk in her face she said,) "Captain Kate McCafferty?" (It wasn't a question she new who Kate was, and Kate new who she was).

Kate: (Kate didn't see her, but she new who it was, and was not happy that she was in her division. Kate turns around to see Dana Farfeild. She was, and is Eric Stone's laywer. Kate hates this women almost as much as she hates stones, but not as much). "What do you want? (She didn't ask the question nice she did care to do so there was no reason to. Both women did not like each other).

Dana: (She says this sarcasticly). Aww, how nice to see you to Kate." (Kate gives her a dirty look).

Haysbert: "Who is this Kate?"

Dana: (Before Kate could answer). I am Dana Farfeild." (She holds out her hand for Charles to shake, and he does). You must me DC Charles Haysbert?" (he nods his head yes.) I am Eric Stone's laywer. The Reason that Kate dislikes me so much."

Kate: "Your right I don't like you, so why are you hear??

Dana "This is the reason." (She hands Kate some papers).

Kate: (You can tell that Kate is angry about the papers,and says,)

Dana: "Will you see Eric Stones, said that a couple weeks after he went to jail this past time that you came there and beat him, but at the time he was to afraid to say anything."

Kate: "I don't know what you are talking about. I never touched him while he was in jail. You have no proof of this."

Dana: "Will I find it just a little that on day that Eric got beat up that you where at the prison and,ended up with a borken nose, and brused ribs."

Kate: "Prove it. Your not gonna be able to because it didn't happen."

Dana: "Oh, I am going to prove it, and when I do everyone will realize that your not really who you clam to be." (Charles was suprised at what he was hearing, and very interested).

Charles: "Kate is what she is saying true?"

Kate: No, I can't believe that you would even ask!"

Dana: "As much as I am enjoying this I really got to go."

Kate: "Bye" (Kate gives her a look, and then waves at her. Dana walks out. CD and Nate walk back in). Did you guys find anything else?"

Charels: "Look Kate that can wait. I want to know what happened that day when you went to see Eric Stones."

Kate: (She looks at Charles) "Are you tryin to say that it is more important to YOU to find out wither or not I beat Eric over a dead body?!"

Charles: "No that's not what I am saying. I just would like to know cause it is gonna look bad to this division, and YOU, if what Dana is saying is true. So that is why I am asking."

Kate: "It's not THIS division or ME that you are afraid that is gonna look bad. YOUR afraid that it is gonna be YOU that looks bad." (Before Charles could say anything else Tom came walking it).

Tom: "Uh...Hi I could hear you two yelling all the way out there. How is everying going?"

Kate: "Tom Hi. You will never believe who was just here?"

Tom: "Dana Farfeild...."(Kate gives him a how did you know look). ".....I just saw her she told me about sueing you. Becides that how has you morning been?"

Kate: "Will ummm let me think not that great. First I come in, and find that my office has been torn apart, and there was a threat on my wall saying Katy you will die. Then while CD, and Nate where looking in my office for evdance they found a note tellin me where I could find the dead janitor that works here. Then when I came back up here to find out if there had been any witness there was one officer and I just found out that he has been shot. Last, but not least Dana comes in here with these papers. So you want to know how my morning has been huh?"

Tom: "Uh Kate maybe we should go into your office, and talk."

Kate: (She looks around the division, and realizes that everyone is looking at her). "Okay." (Jinny and Magda walk back into the division. Tom walks into Kate's office first, then Kate. Kate doesn't realize that Charles is colse behind her so when she slams the door she doesn't know that it is right in Charles face).

Outside Kate office

Jinny: (everyone in the division is trying not to laugh). "I would pay money to see that again!"

Magda: (Trying not to laug elebows her). Jinny...

Charles: (Glareing at all of them). Don't all of you have work that you should be doing?!"

Back in Kate's office

Tom: (He is looking at her funny). Uhh Kate......

Kate: (looking at him just as funny). What??

Tom: Uh you don't realize what you just did. Do you?

Kate: (Looking at him like what in H*ll are you talking about). No I don't. Could ya fill me in?"

Tom: "Uh you just slamed the door in Charles face."

Kate: "I wha......what? I didn't even know that he was behind me. (She gets a half smile on her face). "I guess that I better go let him in."

Tom: "Yeah go head, but after you do that I want to talk to you alone. Okay?"

Kate: Uh....Yeah sure."

Outside Kate office

Charles: (everyone there, but charles is kinda of sinkering). "Is there something that all of you find funny?!

Magda: "Oh will....uh we heard this joke early...uh it was really funny...right everyone?!

She thought to herself, " I didn't even know that he was behind me so it wasn't as though I did it on purpose.") "Charles..I am really sorry I didn't know that you were folowing us. It wasn't until Tom had said something that I realized that you were right there when I slamed the door."

Charles: (he looked at Kate in disbleivef.") Yeah sure it was an accident."

Tom: " I was in the room while it happend Charles She did do it on accident."

Charles: (Charles new that Tom was a very improtant man, and that if Charles wanted to go even further up in his job that at this point he would have to be nice to Kate, because it was very clear that Kate, and Tom were very good friends.) "Well then Kate I am sorry for the missunderstanding. I would like to know more about this Stone's guy though. Kate I also think that you should tell me what happend that day when you went to the jail that Stones was at, and he ended up beaten up."

Tom: (Tom, answered before Kate got a chance to.) Charles, I am sorry. I know you just walked into here, but I would like a moment alone with Kate. I hope that you don't mind?" (Tom knew that even if Charles did mind that he would still leave, becasue he always sucked up to him. And always tired to stay on his good side).

Charles: (He wasn't to happy, but he was going to agree with Tom. Charles tired not to show how upset that he was, but it was very clear that he was.) "Yeah, I will be right out side."(Charles left the room, and shut the door.)

Kate: "Oh, my god..I need you around more offten. I have never sceen that man take orders like that." (Kate smiled at the fact. She loved seeing Charles trying to suck up, but she also new that Charles would make her pay for it later, when Tom wasn't there.) "So why did you want to talk to me alone for?"

Tom: (Tom knew that Kate wouldn't go for what he was plain on doing so he had to trick her into doing what he wanted.) "Kate can I have a dollor?"

Kate: (She looked at him strangely). "What? Why do you need a dollor for?"

Tom: "Well, you see I don't have any money on me, and I really need something to drink, and I wanted have a dollor so I could get a coke." (He was lieing, and Kate knew it.)

Kate: (She was still looking at him stangley) "Okay." (She walked over to her her purse, and got out her walet, and got out the dollor. She handed him the dollor.) "There you go. Now are you goting to explain REALLY why I am giving you a dollor, and why you made Charles leave the room, so that you could talk to me alone?"

Tom: "Well, you see Kate you just gave me money to be your lawyer. It's called a retainer."

Kate: "Tom I know what it is called. I never agreed for you to be my lawyer, and I didn't know the reason that I was givin you the money, so it doesn't count. You tricked me, into this."

Tom: "I know that is why I didn't tell you why I wanted to the dollor. Look Kate you need me to be your lawyer. Okay we both know how good, and sneakey Dana Farfeild can be. We also know that Charles is out for your job. So you need me to be your lawyer. I will look out for your best interest. You, and I both know that no one can find out what happened in that jail that day Kate. Not only would you lose your job, but also everything that you have worked for since then. So, please tell me that you will let me be your lawyer, and to hlep you out?"

Kate: "Tom I don't know. I mean what about your job. If, anyones finds out what really happend that day, and knows that you hleped cover it up then you could as well lose your job. I can't put you in that spot."

Tom: "Kate, I have just as mush to lose as you do, and I won't let everything that that monster did to you, and when he wrote Amanda that litter, that was your last stral, and I can't say that I blame you. Had he done that to one of my kids I don't think that he would still be alive. So, you aren't putting me in a spot Kate, I was already there. You have worked to hard to get where you are today, and I am not going to let that monster Stones, or his lawyer, or for that matter Charles Haysbert take that away from you. As, I see it Kate you don't have much of a choice, but to have me as your lawyer. So What do you say?"

Kate: (She still wasn't sure, but she knew Tom will enough, that he wasn't about to give up.) Okay, Tom, I will agree for you to be my lawyer. So tell me what happens now?"

Tom: "Well don't say a word to nobody. Well you can talk to Ross if you would like to tell him what happend."

Kate:" No, I will not tell him what happend that day. That would mean that I would have to tell him what the litter that Stones wrote to her was about, and I don't want to do that. Becides, that would also mean that he would know something, and I don't want him to feel as though he would have to lie, if Dana called him to the stand, So I think that it is better that Ross doens't know. Okay?"

Tom: "Okay, That will work. Now as I said. I don't want you to talk to anybody about what happend that day in the jail, if they ask you tell them to talk to me, or that you have no comment. Okay?"


Kate: "That will work. What about Charles? What do we tell him?"

Tom: "Leave that to me. Why don't we let D.C Charles Haysbert back into the room. Shall we?" ( Both Tom, and Kate had a smile on there faces..Kate had a feeling she was going to enjoy this.)

Okay so i know it's been a very LONG time for this fic...LOL Sorry. Here a lil more.

Kate: (she went, and opened her door back up for Charles to come back in, He did.) "Come in."

Charles: "You guys going to finely tell me what's going on, what happend to stone's"

Tom: Stated simply, "I am not telling you anything of what happend the day in jail with stone's. And as Kate's Laywer, and am telling her not to talk to anyone about it, including you. She doesn't have to tell you what happend, and if, I find out you have then I will make sure that this is the only job you will have for the rest of you working days. Do we have an understanding?"

Charles: (Rolled his eyes.) Yeay we understand each other." (He went to turn to walk out of Kate office, and mumbled,) "Doesn't mean, I still can't make her life a living hell." (He kept walking until he had left the division.)

Kate: "You do realize that the only thing that he is going to do is give me an even harder time at work right?"

Tom: (Smiled) "Yeah, but you can handle him."

Kate: TUre. I can handle him, and anything he throws at me. He thinks he can out smart me, but he's worng. "

Tom: "Good, I am glad to hear it. I am really sorry Kate, but I have to go get back to work. You need anything let me know."

Kate: (She gave him a hug, and said) I will. Thanks for all your help tom."

Tom: (He looked at her, and said,) "There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you. Bye. ( he walked out of her door.)

Kate: (She sat at her deck doing paper work of the rest of the day, and only took a brak at luch to eat, casue he new that if she didn't Ross would give her a hard time about it, and that was the last thing she needed right now. It was about seven, and she was about ready to leave. She thought she had been lucky becasue she hadn't scean Charles for the rest of the day, and now she was getting ready to leave, and she had her coat, and purse, and everything. That's when it happend Charles came walking .) "HI Charles. I was just leaveing. I guess it will have to wait for tomorrow."

Charles: (He smiled at her.and said, ) "Well you can leave, but you have to have this work for me first thing tomorrow morning."

Kate: (She stood galreing at him. ) "What? I can't have that doen by morning, even if, I work all night."

Kate: "I guess I will be here a little longer." ( Kate worked until her eyes went blurey..and she couldn't see anymore. she figured she would grab a bite to eat, and take the rest of the work home with her, and work on it there. Mostly because she needed a break.)

LOL yes, Emma I know it has been forever. I had a couple ideas for this fic a few days ago, and so I am writing more now. This was my first fanfic ever. But I haven’t been able to write much on any of my fics for a while. This fic was gonna have so much story to it and different turns to it, but while I haven’t been working on it. Either my first ides have been forgotten or I didn’t know how to write the seen coming up. So, I became a chicken and stopped because I didn’t think it was good enough. Maybe it isn’t as good as but I know that I have had some people read it, and like it, and I have had people come and go with this fic. So to end this statement I hope that I can give the ending post the best that I have. I may not finish it in this post but I hope to come close. Okay the starting of the end....ENJOY!

The next few weeks for Kate were about the same. Charles was pretty much giving her much more paper work, and giving her imposable deadlines on cases that her inspectors were working on. One of witch was of break-ins were the guy didn’t steal anything, unless you count the fact that he took away the dignity of the women he raped and then tied them up, and putt them in the closet for their family to come home too. To wake up too. The break-ins ended up being on the same day. Always at night, at first it ended up being that the guy would just break in. Then the rapes started happening. The guy would leave behind something like a liter or number or just some kind of sign. None of it made too much since. Kate was getting a really bad feeling about it all. She thought that is was Eric Stones, but there was no proof of it, and what was worse is the fact that it wasn’t even his MO, so Kate couldn’t even bring him in for questioning. No judge in his or her right mind would allow it. There was not even fingerprints or hair that was found as evidence. , Nothing but the clues that the rapist left behind. Kate had a specialist helping CD and Nate with the case, but they still came up with nothing. Soon all of Kate’s inceptors were working night and day on the case. Everyone was tired and worn out. So, here Kate was getting home for the first time in weeks before twelve o’clock. She beat that record only be a half-hour. It was eleven-thirty. She pulled into her driveway, and saw Ross’s car. Kate sighed, and thought, “This is the last thing I need right now.” It wasn’t that she didn’t love him. She did, but she was used to living alone. Coming and going as she pleased. Giving up her space was something very hard for Kate to do, and with a night like this the only thing she wanted to do was come home, and go to sleep, but she knew there would be a fight first.

Kate walked quietly into her hose hoping that Ross would be sleeping, but as her luck is bad lately he was wide-awake with a cup of coffee. Ross had that look on him that said he wasn’t happy with her. Kate took a deep breath in, and let it out. “So,” Kate said, “How was your day?” Before he could answer Kate said, Well my day was awful. All I want to do is go to sleep.”

Ross was upset, he knew now that she had no intension of giving a damn about him. “So that is it then were threw?”

Kate was going up the stairs, and looked at Ross confused, “What the hell are you talking about?!”

“Well let’s see here the past month we have barely seen each other, and when we do all we do is fight. If, were not fighting you’re trying to avoid me!” Ross yelled, “it’s no wonder your first marriage didn’t work!”

Now Kate was very pissed off. She walked over to Ross and stood face to face with him using the most intimidating look she had, “Funny,” Kate said. “You have been reminding me of Louis lately!” She knew it was a low blow, but he deserved it. “You don’t get your way so you blame me or my job, or working too late. Hmmm? Why is that? Because, you need to spend every waking moment with me?! Telling me how to eat that I need to eat more. And what’s worse is that you think I can’t do anything for myself. That if, you were gone. I wouldn’t know how to take care of myself. Well you know what sweet heart?” Kate said angrily, “I have taken care of and raised my daughter all by myself, and odd, I don’t remember you or Louis being there at all!”

KATE! Ross yelled, “I am nothing like Louis! Is a matter of fact it seems to be that you have been acting more like him then your self. Trying to ignore the people in your life that love you? Giving up on people because you’re fighting with them. OH no I am not the one acting like Louis at all!”

Kate couldn’t believe this was happening. “Damn it Ross! Did it ever occur to you that I am used to being by myself? I am used to taking care of myself. That I am not used to having people in my personal life dictating when I eat how I eat when I should be home. And the worst part is you knew coming into this relationship what my job was, and that I didn’t work a nine to five job. You also knew that when there is a case that is a huge one that my hours would be longer then normal. So now I ask you, who should be the one that should be up set?

He knew the moment she said, “and the worst part is you knew coming into this relationship what my job was, and that I didn’t work a nine to five job.” That she was partly right he knew that she didn’t work normal hours. And that he shouldn’t be upset with her for that. “Kate, I am not trying to dictate what you do, but I am worried about your health you mostly forget to eat, and that isn’t healthy, and you have lost about five pounds. That’s all I meant when I tried to get you too eat. You are right I knew what I was getting into when I started a relationship I am sorry about that. I guess I have just been feeling left out I miss talking to you, and of curse I miss wearing your robe!

Kate closed her eyes thinking of him wearing her robe, and then how Louis had walked in on him. She couldn’t help but smirk. Then she thought “damn he’s good!” Then she thought oh I guess I have lost some wait, and said, “Well losing five pounds is pretty damn good!” She knew his next words were gonna be.

Kate and Ross at the same time, “But losing wait by not eating isn’t good for your body.” Ross Laughed.

Kate smirked, “ Well my doctors been saying that I needed to lose some wait.” Kate up her had up so Ross couldn’t say what he was gonna say, “I know, I know it’s not good for my health, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and that thing about me being right. Don’t forget that cause I am always right!

Ross smirked, “Yeah right!”

Kate laughed, “this coming form a man who wears women’s close.

“Hey I don’t wear women’s close I wear their robes!” Ross said

Rolling her eyes, Kate said, “As if, that’s any better then wearing our close!

Ross said, “It is better then wearing women’s close, besides its not like I would wear that robe outside. Just for you!”

Kate looked at him and said jokingly, “I am so flattered! But I find it odd that you haven’t even noticed that I threw that robe away.”

He acted like he was upset, “Oh my God! You didn’t? Why on earth would you do a thing like that?

Kate laughed, “Because every time I went to wear it I started cracking up!”

“Ahhh, well laughing is good!” Said Ross.

Kate sighed, “FINELY!

Ross asked, “What?”

“We agree on something!” Kate said, “but don’t you go thinking this argument is over. You thought that by making a joke I would forget.”
He smiled; “well it worked didn’t it?”

Kate tilted her head to the side and smiled. This was what she loved so much about him. He was just as smart as she was. And he didn’t back down to her. Or go slamming doors in her face like Louis had. “Yes it worked. This time.” She went over and hugged and kissed him. “I am sorry but I really need some sleep. Tonight I am afraid that I will get a call around two in the morning that another break-in has happed and it’s twelve now, so that only gives me about two hours of sleep. I am sorry for that. It would have been nice to spend some time with you tonight, but I really need that two hours.”

Ross smiled and said That’s okay. I can....” Kate was waiting for him to say ‘I can make some food for you.’ Witch was the last thing she wanted to do at the moment. But he surprised her by saying, “I can make you a up of tea while you get ready for bed.”

Kate smiled, “That’s sweet of you. I think that would be very nice. Thanks.” Kate went up the stairs and got ready for bed. Although she had a feeling that she didn’t need to set her alarm clock, because she thought she would get that telephone call at two in the morning. But she thought just in case I don’t get that call I am setting my alarm for six in the morning. Kate got into bed, and Ross brought up the tea. Kate took some small sips. “Thanks. She said

Ross gave her a kiss on the check, and said “Good night Kate. Ross climbed into bed with Kate, and Kate cuddled up to him.

She smiled, and said, Good night John boy.” Then Kate went to say, “You know....” And she just stopped right in the middle of her sentence.

Ross said, “Kate, what were you going to say?”

Kate mumbled Hmmmmmm?” Ross looked down at her, and realized she had fallen asleep. He took her mug out of her hand and placed it on the nightstand. He kissed her again on her check, and then turned off the light, and soon he was asleep just like her.

Kate awoke to the phone ringing... or so she thought. She picked up the phone, and said “Hello?” She didn’t get an answer, so she said, “Hello?” Again then she listen and notice that the noise was still going off, and that she had a dial tone on the other end. She put down the phone, and tried to find were her alarm was and when she couldn’t find the snooze button, or just the off button she decided to throw it at the other side of the room.

Ross asked, “What did that alarm clock ever do to you?

Kate grunted, “It went off!” Ross laughed, while Kate sat up and put her feet on the floor, but still standing. Then all of the sudden, she yelled, “Oh, my God, what time is it?”

Ross said, “Well I would know had you not thrown the clock at the wall.”

Kate grabbed Ross’s left arm, and looked at his watch, and it said Six O five. Kate asked, “What did you do?”

Ross looked at her confused, “What are you talking about?”

“You know damn well what I am talking about!” Kate yelled, What did you do? Unhook the phone so that it didn’t ring?!”

“Uh Kate...” Ross said, “ I didn’t do anything to the phone. No one called at all.”

Kate wiped her eyes to get the sleep out of her eyes. I’m sorry I guess I just really thought I would get that phone call at some point.”

“It’s okay, but I think I like you better when you’re asleep. You are a lot more peaceful then.” Kate slapped his arm. He said, “Owww!” Kidding about the pain while he rubbed his arm.”

Kate glared at him, and said, “At least it wasn’t the alarm clock.” Kate was just joking though. And Ross knew it.

Then said, “hey, do me a favor?”

Kate looked at him, and said, What?

He said, “Go back to sleep, and wake up on the right side of the bed instead of the wrong side. I am sure your inspectors well thank me for it.”

Kate said, “Haha! Very funny!”

A half-hour later Kate was dressed, and ready to go to work. All she had to do was sit down with the cup of coffee and breakfast. She went to go down stairs when the phone rang. “Hello?” Kate said.

On the other end CD said, “Morin Cap... We thought the break in didn’t happen since we didn’t get called in early this morning.. To bad I was wrong No sooner did we walk in did we get the phone call that their was another break in.”

“Damn it.” Kate said. Were at?” CD gave her the address. Kate sighed, “So much for a sit down breakfast. It will be more like breakfast on the go.”

CD had to laugh, “Yeah well Nate had to get breakfast before we went to the seen of the crime. We stopped at McDonald's, and Nate had to get EVERYTHING on the breakfast menu. So I just got a coffee on the go. And then so all his food is making me hungry, so I ask him to give me one of his Egg Mcmuffin and he tells me no! Because I should have ordered something while we were there!”

Kate said, “Men! Can’t live with them, and can’t live without them. I will see you in fifteen.” At that Kate hug up the phone. And told Ross what was going on, and although he wasn’t too happy and she knew it, but said she would take a muffin with her. He seemed to be okay with that. She kissed him, and told him to have a good day.

Ross said you too, and be careful!”

Kate finished her muffin as soon as she got to the crime seen. She walked up to CD, and Nate, and asked what kind of statements they had gotten, and got caught up with almost everything.

When CD said, “Oh yeah. One more thing.” CD hated when kids were involved but at least the little girl hadn’t been hurt. Janis’s daughter who’s ten found her mother in the closet.”

Kate asked, “How are Janis and her daughter?” Kate had looked around and noticed that Charles was pulling in to see how things were going, but she knew the real reason he was there cause of all the press.

CD said, “Well Janis is doing as well as can be expected. And the daughters okay a lot better then her of, but I guess that’s because she doesn’t really understand what’s going on. Just that her mother was hurt.” CD looked in the direction that Kate was looking and saw Charles, and said, “I can’t believe he’s here. Then again he is were the press always is. Saying how everything is going just fine and under control. When he doesn’t know a damn thing!”

Kate raised her eyebrow and said, Well that’s a guy for you.”

Nate who had been listening said, “Hey I resent that!”

CD gave Nate her best smile and said, well she’s right!”

Nate like a child said “was not!”

Kate knowing that this could go on between them forever said looking at Nate, “Ummm Nate you got a little something right here.” She pointed to the side of her mouth trying to show him were it was. And then she started walking a way, because one she didn’t want Charles to ketch up with her, and two she wanted to check up on Janis.”

Nate wiped the side were she pointed too, and then looked at CD, and asked, “Did I get it off?”

CD who wasn’t even really looking said, “yeah uh sure.” And followed Kate.

Nate said, “Hey! You didn’t even look!”

CD smirked, and said, “Well maybe you should have given me one of your Egg Mcmuffins.

Kate walked up too the emergency squad and saw Janis on a stretcher. So, Kate asked one of the EMT’s if, it was okay for Kate to ask her a few questions.

One of the EMT’s said, “yeah you can talk to her, besides she said she wouldn’t leave until her daughter can leave with her.

Kate asked, “Well were is her daughter?”

The EMT looked at her, and Said, I have no idea, but when you know could you tell me?”

Kate said under her breath, “Gee you were a lot of help!” Kate walked up to Janis and said, “Hi can I ask you a few questions? If, not I understand.” Kate knew she must being getting tired of people asking her questions but they had to be asked.

Janis said, “Anything if it will help get that bastard!”

Kate thought to herself, my kinda women. “Did you happen to see that mans face? Or anything on his body like a tattoo, a birthmark. Anything?

Janis tired to think but she couldn’t think of anything. She said, “Not that I can remember, but everything is running together. It all happened so fast. She tried to get a name of Kate’s badge, but couldn’t quite read it. And she was near tears.

Kate felt so bad for her. She looked were Janis was looking and Kate realized that she hadn’t given hear name. “Oh, I am so sorry, I forgot to give you my name. It’s Kate MaCafferty. And it’s okay that you don’t remember take your time, and get well.

Janis repeated Kate’s name out loud. “Kate MaCafferty? That’s Captain Kate MaCafferty right?”

Kate wondered why the women would know her as Captain; yeah she had been on TV before but with so many Captains in SF there was no reason that Janis should know who she was. Kate said, “Yeah that’s me. How did you know that I was a captain?”

Janis thought for a moment, trying to remember were she had heard her name before, “Oh, my God!” The women was suddenly remembering something. “The man! The man who did this to me whispered your name before he left!”

Kate was deep in thought knowing it was Eric. Kate was dreading what would come next. “UH, Kate “ said to Janis, “I am really sorry for what happened to you. If, there is anything I can do for you let me know.” Kate turned around to see Nate and CD there. Kate said, “I am getting a very bad feeling about this.”

Nate and CD were getting a bad feeling about this. This can’t be good Cap. Should we try, and get a search warrant?” Nate asked

Kate sighed, “uh... “ Kate said trying to think, “We can try.” Kate waited a moment. Then said, “wait, if this was Eric then he won’t be far away. He likes to see his work.” Kate was more talking to herself then anybody at this point. Then she became frantic and said, “Where’s the little girl?!” Kate asked

CD Said, “She was with that officer.” CD pointed out an officer that was a little closer to the house.

Kate, CD and Nate, when running up to the officer. Kate asked, “Were is the little girl?”

The officer asked, “You mean Carly?”

Kate asked, “Is that Janis’s daughter’s name?!”

The officer said “yes, that is the daughter’s name.” He didn’t say anything after that.

Kate looked at him, and was like “SO WERE IS SHE?!” Kate thought to herself once this was all over she was gonna fire the guy.

The officer had no idea why she was going crazy, but he said, “She went inside with an EMT. He said he was going to check her out.”

CD was about to strangle the guy, but Nate held her arm knowing her to well. Nate yelled at the officer, “You were supposed to stay with the little girl the whole time! What the hell were you thinking?!

Wow I can honestly say I have never ran out of room before... Anyway here's a lil more.

Kate had to keep herself from exploding at the young officer. Now was not the time to reprimand the young officer. Kate asked, “is they’re anyone else in the house?!”

The officer said “their are still a few officers and CSI ’s in there. Why?”

Kate said, “get them all out of their NOW!” The officer did as he was told.

Kate looked at CD, and said, “You’re in charge!” Kate ran for the house while everyone else was coming out. Kate saw one last man before she ran into the house, and she asked if, anyone else was still in the house?”

He said “Just the EMT and the little girl.”

Kate grabbed her gun form it’s holster and ran into the house. She looked at the little girl, and then to the man standing by her. It was him Eric right by Carly. Kate said, “Let Carly go!”

Eric said, “You put down gun first.”

Kate took a deep breath, and said, “I will not put down my gun until you let the girl leave. You will have me as a hostage, and that’s what you want anyway right? She has nothing to do with this. It’s me you want. Let her go!

Kate tried to act sure of herself, for the little girl sake. She said “I promise.”

The little girl looked at Kate one last time, and said, “Okay I will leave then.” And she walked out of the house.

Eric taunted Kate by saying, “You shouldn’t make promise you can’t keep!”

Kate swallowed, “This is it.” She thought. “One of us is going to die today...” Cause they both knew that neither one was going to leave until the other was dead.

Byyyy....following these instructions:

1) drink a gallon of pepsi.(i think coffee works better,but i'm addicted to it,sooo pepsi will probably be better for you...)
2) Go to the potty. (come on now, ya just drank a gallon of pepsi...)
3) sit down at your computer.
4) turn on some music
5) open wordpad.
6)rack your brain till ya come up with something to type.
