View Full Version : Why did the Bunkers never visit the Jeffersons in Manhattan?
jeffjaco1175 12-17-2021, 12:01 PM I know George hated Archie but Edith loved Louise and vice-versa. I would have love to see Ralph ask Archie for a tip and Archie give him a snide comeback.
I would have loved to see Mr. Bently and Archie interact. That would have been comedy gold.
PracTz 12-17-2021, 06:39 PM Good question!
You'd think they'd have invited at least Edith to their own vow renewal or Lionel's Wedding (and the Bunkers WERE there for his first engagement party).
Perhaps Mother Jefferson told George and Louise she was NEVER going to put up with Archie again after he called her a mammy!
MikeLutton 12-17-2021, 09:15 PM dont forget about Archie and Florence
TVFactFan 12-24-2021, 05:32 PM Because Edith and Louise was friends not George and Archie. And Edith wasnt going to travel to the upper east side of Manhattan by herself so that's why the Bunkers was never there. The Jeffersons returned to Queens but it was never vice versa
All 3 Jeffersons/All in the Family Crossovers were All in the Family eps
Makes Makes his Move-season 5
Mike's New Job-season 8
Family next door-season 9
Johnny be good! 01-04-2022, 09:09 AM Mike and Gloria should have at least visited Lionel and Jenny.
gidgetgrape 01-04-2022, 03:15 PM Someone like Archie most likely wouldn't visit someone like George. It would hurt Archie's pride too much to see George providing more for his family and being more affluent than him. A solo trip for Edith would have been a blow to Archie's pride too because when she would have returned home, Archie would have had to hear about how well George was doing. Out of sight, out of mind.
SitcomsHeydayfan 01-05-2022, 03:43 AM dont forget about Archie and Florence
That would've been EPIC!
Imagine the zingers back & forth.

Not only that they wasnt friends lol
TheLittleFaerie 10-25-2022, 04:01 AM Both George and Louise liked Edith... George and Edith seemed to be good with each other, so it would have been nice to see them there. Would have also been nice if Henry showed up a time or 2 any way.
But yeah I could see Archie and Florence having conflict for sure... it might actually be a time when Archie and George would be on the same side lol
Dude111 10-25-2022, 06:10 AM Would have been interesting to see!!!
icecream 10-25-2022, 01:25 PM I am glad they didn't, can't stand Archie and Meathead and don't watch All in the Family anymore.
Chocolate Moose 10-25-2022, 02:59 PM cool idea!

It would made sense for Edith, Mike and Gloria to be there because of Louise and Lionel but not Archie. Do you really think archie would have wanted to see the Jeffersons luxury apt? lol
CJMD03 08-20-2023, 07:54 PM The Bunkers never visited Maude and they were a lot closer in relationship and distance.
TVFactFan 08-20-2023, 08:10 PM They had three crossovers after the Jeffersons moved and none of them was Jefferson episodes. All episodes of all in the family which made no sense why they could have just 1 episode of the Jeffersons with Bunkers as Guests
CJMD03 08-20-2023, 08:18 PM The closest we got to the Bunkers appearing was the flashback episode the Jeffersons had of them when they were tied up.
CJMD03 12-09-2025, 12:16 PM They should have at least mentioned Edith’s death when she died on “Archie Bumkwr’s Place.” Louise could have read it in the newspaper.
Dude111 12-10-2025, 12:46 AM Ya they shure could of!!
Edith didnt ruin the show after all.. MIKE DID CAUSE HE WANTED THAT STUPID JOB!!
I BET HE WAS FIRED AFTER 4 MONTHS!! (Ah man!!)

well since they dont have on screen funerals for TV charcaters, it was no need to mention it

I've seen on screen funerals in sitcoms plenty of times.

for a character of that show????????????????
DJM77 12-10-2025, 03:37 PM for a character of that show????????????????
I guess I misread your post. I was just thinking about funeral services in general. Like the funeral for Chuckles the Clown in The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
BestTVever 12-10-2025, 06:39 PM I think it would have been cool if they made an appearance but I understand why it never happened. The Jeffersons had a great first season and did not need the Bunkers to show up. Usually struggling spin offs bring parts of the original show's cast to boost ratings. It was not needed. Same reason that Maude never visited Edith again after the pilot. Maude was a huge success and did not need to bunkers.
TVFactFan 12-10-2025, 06:52 PM Now that I am thinking about it, since jean request her character be elimianted, Lear wasnt going to put in no script about Louise Jefferson finding out about her death. At that point its like she never existed

The only guest appearance in season 1 was Jean stapleton off camera in the audience for Piano episode

Just a mention would be enough.
TVFactFan 12-10-2025, 07:42 PM Just a mention would be enough.
The actress wanted the character eliminated so it was never going to be mentioned
