I thought the show could been more successful if they set the show in Chicago.

More successful? It ended up ranked #2 in the country at one time right behind All in the Family.

No way! L.A. was the perfect setting for Sanford and Son! How would they have been able to run a successful junk yard business in a city that has a really cold climate ( snow and wind) a lot of the year? L.A. with it's mostly sunny and warm/ mild climate is perfect for their business being they kept a lot of their merchandise and conducted business out side in the yard .:);)
