I just checked out TV Guide's 50 Worst Shows of all Time, and the New Leave It To Beaver/Still the Beaver made the list as the 33rd worst show.

I am a big fan of the original show, so I just cannot fathom the fact that the 80's version was terrible. I have never seen an episode from the New Leave It To Beaver, so is what TV Guide says true? :o

What are your thoughts about the New Leave It To Beaver being named the 33rd worst show of all time?

I remember watching the new LITB. I liked it. There was nothing wrong with it at all.

Remember I haven't seen the show, but it might've been voted in the worst list because it wasn't just June, Wally, Beaver and the gang. You had a bunch of changes in the show. The main two are the absence of Hugh Beaumont and the fact that Wally and Beaver are older now. I'm not calling them old, I'm just saying that people enjoyed seeing Wally and Beaver growing up and liked them because they were so likeable. Maybe Beaver and Wally's kids didn't have that same likeability.

What's not to like about this show? It should be the 1,978th worst show.

I liked this show when it was on The Disney Channel as Still the Beaver. When it became TNLITB on TBS, the kids became fresh-mouthed, IMO, and Eddie Haskell became a real jerk who was ruining not only his own life but those of his family as well.

LOL, isn't that what the character of Eddie Haskell was supposed to do?

I absolutely loved the new Leave it to Beaver show...it was fantastic and updated. Of course it was fluff like most of the writing of sitcoms during the 80s but it was a great show.

Just out of wondering, is that list of the 50 worst shows online? Do you have a URL?

I'd hope at least the Brady's reality hour done in the 80s would be ahead of the New Leave it to Beaver show...

This show was not bad at all. Nearly half, if not more, of the shows on prime time today are worse. The same sex jokes over and over, ...

Just because it's in TV Guide doesn't make it so. Meaning, they employ lots of critics who are either stodgy or don't know what they're talking about. I loved the show. It is good.

TV Guide critics:
Judith Christ despised all of Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds films.
The late Cleveland Amory, while a good guy about animal rights, was very wrong in his review for "Queen For a Day."

In "The Best Cat Ever" ( last in the trilogy about his cat Polar Bear ) he reprinted a paragraph from a piece he wrote in 1973 or 1974, when the show was in its last year. He describes a woman who told the host that she lost everything on New Year's.
"Happy New Year!" shouts the host is how Amory put it. But I saw the episode, and host Jack Baily didn't shout it like that --he shook his head, commiserating, and groaned "Happy New Year," with a tone of bitter irony. A HUGE difference in attitude. Baily was very kind, and I liked the show, which was given a bad rap --and think, Extreme Makeover is a new version of Queen For a Day, both the original and Home Edition. What's wrong with people getting something they need? Except that most people can't get it, too. It's a show to watch other people get these nice things, and heartwarming, but if you feel that you need things too, though are not going to impress the producers, it can be frustrating.

I pay no attention to the critics anymore, mostly because a lot of them don't give artists/shows/films a real chance. The show was great, it was a shame it didn't go on longer, there would've been some great story lines as the kids grew up.

I liked The New Leave It To Beaver and seeing most of the gang together again. I watched it every time it was on TBS, it may be TVGuide's 33 worst show but not mine. It lasted 5 seasons so it couldn't have been that bad. I don't like the critics anyway and ignore what they have to say. The only thing I was disappointed in, is they didn't show Beaver's old friends who should have been popping by every now and then. The only had Lumpy and Eddie .

I don't know about the rest of them but Stanley Fafara (Whitey) was in and out of rehab for several years due to drug addiction and Stephen Talbot turned down all offers to reprise his role as Gilbert Bates.

The New Leave it to beaver was a hilarious good spirited show.I think TV guide has become an over hyped piece of trash living off it's old rep, much like other publications such as Sports Illustrated and Networks such as ESPN. I haven't bought a TV Guide in over 10 years. The internet has made it obsolete, with Digital Cable and Satellite TV I doubt TV Guide covers enough listings anyway.Yeah sure they cover the general cable channels and networks, which IMHO aren't even worth watching anyway. So if TV guide slams a show I enjoyed I give a little chuckle and say who cares what TV guide has to say.

I actually LIKED New Leave it to Beaver. Nothing can top the original show, but I enjoyed the new one as well. Then again, I haven't seen the new show since I was a kid in the 1980s, so I don't know how I'd feel about it now.

Yeah, the show was pretty good, if I remember correctly. I loved it as a kid. But when anything is redone, it will be beaten up pretty bad in the press.
It was your typical 80's synicated show (very disney channel-ish). Nothing unusual, pretty cookie cutter. But it was entertaining, wholesome. Far from being great, but even farther from behing one of the worst shows ever. Eddie Haskel still had it.

That list was compiled many years after the fact by some crank who quite possibly never saw a single frame of footage from NLTB. I remember the show being liked and watched regularly by a surprisingly good number of people--one of them being myself--and can't remember anybody having a bad word to say about it.

Forget TV Guide.

The thing that's ironic about TV Guide is that they will sometimes trash series that their former editors actually looked upon favorably when the shows were in production...! Hogan's Heroes is a good example. It's funny to see a show like that being dissed when in the past, TV Guide used it on multple occasions as a cover feature -- which was a critical selling point for the mag on newsstands.

I don't remember too much about Still the Beaver, but I don't recall any negatives from back then either.

I agree with that^^.I have not bought a tv guide in over 10 years myself.TVGuide was once a very good magazine, now they are a waste of the paper its printed on.A number of years ago,TVGuide actually named "Seinfeld" as the best show ever made.I know Seinfeld has its fans, but the best show ever???C"mon! If they want to make a 'real' list of the worst shows ever, all they have to do is list almost every show they make nowadays.

I liked the spin off better than the original Leave it to Beaver! The spin off was lighter and funnier, and most importantly to me, the adults seemed to have better relationships with their kids. I know that the original show naturally reflected more 1950s parenting ideals, but the parents seemed to be kinder to the children and treat them as individuals worthy of understanding and respect.

I've seen one or two eps, and I can think of at lest 33 shows on in the last 10 years that are worse!

I agree with your comment about the critics. You can't really trust all critics. You will have to make the choice for yourself. I think it went on for a fair amount of time. It wasn't the greatest show but it didn't suck and I'd watch it in the comfort of my own living room. I has a little crush of Kaleena Kiff (Kelly) at the time. LOL.
