On the ride home, one of her songs was playing on the radio and I turned it off IMMEDIATELY. LOL. She sounds like she inhaled helium. And how does caterwauling sh*t like this manages to get on the radio?

Blast that out loud at a nursing home and you’re sending everybody into cardiac arrest.

I’m sure she appeals to “younger audience” that can still stunt their growth. Believe me, she’s awful. You listen to an entirety of one of her songs, and you’re committing suicide. Had to turn that sh*t off, I don’t know if she was dying, choking, or what, but she sounded HORRENDOUS. You die a little inside knowing that crap like this actually PASSES as music today in the music industry.

That “Good 4 U” song drives me CRAZY. I can totally see her parents jamming to the song while the rest of the family members are trying to downplay it, for Olivia’s sake, when inside they’re trying to stomach in the torture.

I never heard of her either but I'm sure the point of this thread is that yesterday (or the day before) she was invited to the White House to tell all the 'young people' to get their vaccines. Unfortunately people seem to not listen to knowledgeable people when it comes to this. And before the usual suspects begin to crow about Trump, keep in mind it was Donald Trump that facilitated the incredibly fast research that developed the vaccines and guaranteed the purchase of them from the large pharmaceutical countries in advance, ensuring that the USA is now the best protected large country in the world. If you follow the data, the people that are refusing to get the vaccine are mostly non-whites in poor neighborhoods, even though the vaccines are free (thanks to Donald Trump).

I agree that Rodrigo is a no talent but the music business nowadays is filled with no talents, Billie Eilish is another no talent example.

In today's music scene, if you want to call it "music", writing good songs is not required and you don't even need to be a good singer. Nowadays it's all about style and attitude over substance and unfortunately this is what appeals to much of the younger generation.

For me personally, I much prefer listening to stuff like this: :)

I never really understood the attraction that many had for cRap music, either (the "c" is silent).

Or punk, for that matter.

What I do remember while listening to heavy metal in the 1970s is my Mother screaming at me to "turn that garbage down!"

And I had to smile 20+ years later when overhearing music preferences of others, I discovered that I had the same tendencies of intolerance as she had.

It is interesting that older generations usually don't relate to music of the younger generations.

Back in the 1950's, much of the older generation probably thought that Elvis Presley was garbage. In the 1960's, much of the older generation probably thought that The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were garbage. And it goes on and on.

I recall back in the late 60's early 70's there was a big push by some of the major rock bands, to blend in classical orchestra music with their rock. Some did a pretty good job of it, and some didn't.

Towards the late 70's, heavy metal power houses such as Kiss and Black Sabbath were experimenting with choral backings, which I loathed.....but it sold.

So, I suspect that "following the money" is often a driving force? One band finds success with an experiment, then everybody else wants to cash in.

Plus, I think there is some self inflicted damage by those who insist upon passing themselves off as "visionary"....being able to see "the next big thing" before it has materialized. Sometimes they end up looking like heroes, and sometimes they end up with ~Rodrigo~ all over their faces.

I think sometimes the kiddies embrace new style, simply because they don't want to follow in the footsteps of their forebears ....It doesn't matter to them that it sounds like someone shaking a box of rocks with a cat inside, because it's "their thing".

It took me years to get beyond Frank Zappa's goofy lyrics and realize that he was an exceptionally talented musician. Plus he really pwned Tipper Gore....

If you wanna put it nice, she needs singing lessons. Her voice is too weak and too boring to be played on radios. It’s like she’s not putting effort into it or she’s one of those teenage girls that just randomly pops up that sucks ass and tries too hard to sing but yet the music industry still worships her. Her songs strike me as mainstream pop songs, i.e. with nothing insanely rebellious or transformative. Granted, I haven't listened to all of her songs, but they seem pleasant. I feel there are far worse artists out there.

When I was a boy, it was common for parents to arrange social gatherings (chaperoned, of course) designed to get little boys and girls interested in each other. Cake, punch, pastel balloons, streamers and ribbons.....and of course mandatory dancing to bubblegum tunes like "Yummy yummy yummy!" and swill such as that.

I wonder if Rodrigo is a modern day equivalent?

On the Sonny & Cher show, Cher would sing renditions of songs that were popular on the charts back in those days.

I remember one show where Tom Jones was a guest star, and he and Cher sang the song "Resurrection Shuffle" which was a chart hit at the time. The version by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke is the original but Tom Jones also had his version of the song.
