I'm ready for fall. As much as I love summer, the heat and humidity, so far, have been too extreme for me.

Darn we hardly had a summer here in So Cal and last couple mornings my nose has been cold, I feel BEST in warmth......body does NOT hurt as much as when cooler/colder.

And homes and apt are NOT insulated as they are further East....

As much as I moan and groan when my annual rent increase arrives, I have to remind myself, I have NOT bought winter clothes, umbrellas, boots, snow tires/chains in over 55 yrs.....

To Caroline . Yes I love the Southern California winters. Gets a little chilly sometimes but not freezing. And love the cozy rainy days we get. But we don't have the mess of shoveling snow and being stuck indoors from weather that is too cold. And also some nice sunny 65 - 70 degree days even in the winter .

Fall and Spring are nice here too. But summer where I live, inland in the city gets too hot , my electric bill goes up than and I only have one little window AC. Near the beach where you are is much cooler in the summer than where I am.

It's true Bonnie, just 10 miles or less inland from the ocean, it's warmer...and my PT fellow is talking about moving as he is inland near Brentwood and he says it's hot...so he's waiting to see how much the apts will be going for, in my bldg, once they are finished remodeling them. It would be nice to have him living here as he's become a nice friend. And he shops TJ's and would get me some stuff now and then.

Somewhere on this board, I saw a thread on dreams about television, but I forgot where it is. In any case, I had a dream fairly recently about an unreleased episode of "That's So Raven" where Raven, Chelsea and Eddie were on the verge of graduating from high school. The two of them have to stop in some walk-in medical clinic for some reason, and Raven drives out of there with Chelsea in the passenger seat. Chelsea is looking unusually cheerful and Raven asks why. In own cutesy way she announces that she's "preggers" (pregnant, in case you haven't figured that out yet). Evidently Chelsea decided to get artificially inseminated and began kissing a printout of her sonogram. I didn't see the rest, but it was obvious, Raven was going to lecture her about the responsibilities of being a single mother just out of high school and what not, but the dream ended before scene took place.

Since you brought up dreams about television, I just remembered a dream I had a couple of weeks ago. I had just watched three episodes of All in the Family and then I fell asleep. Later the next morning I recalled that Carroll O'Connor was in my dream, LOL. I was supposed to star in a play with him but I was afraid I would forget my lines so he told me he would give me the script and let me read from it on stage. LOL

Thinking about Dr. Oz going to D.C. to be working on Medicare and Medicad, I'm impressed.

I went to an unofficial wake at my friend's house earlier today. His father passed in Puerto Rico and this house gathering was for those who couldn't make the trip down there. I heard some crazy and unnerving stories...


- When he was younger he used to work as a custodian at a hospital. The morgue was part of his routine and one of the bodies wasn't properly secured to the table.

When he turned around the corpse was sitting upright on the table with its eyes open from a cadaveric spasm. He was so frightened he ran right through the glass sliding door.




- I don't know if it's still the case now, but my friend told me that Puerto Rico had allowed people to have wakes in their homes. It could be a 3-4 day affair and, after a while, the body starts to smell from the climate.

When my friend's father was a boy he went to one of these house wakes and some of the neighbors started to complain about the smell. One guy in his 60s was screaming from the window across the street "It's time to bury him already!"

He was found deceased the next morning in his bed. Locals said it was the guy who died that "took him." My friend told me that Puerto Ricans are very superstitious like this.




- The last story was from my friend at Puerto Rico years ago. A young man had hung himself in an alleyway. The body could not be taken down right away until forensics and what not got there.

The police could only close off the alley and everyone passing by could see the body hanging with its eyes and jaw open w/ the tongue sticking out. My friend was one of those who got to see this.

Two days ago, I discovered Patti McCormick in the "One Step Beyond" episode "Make Me Not a Witch." What a powerful episode, despite the slight bummer at the end.

Once a year, usually the Friday before Christmas, a group of friends traditionally get together for for brunch of dim sum in Chinatown and after that, a walk to a midtown bar to spend the afternoon drinking fancy on tap beer. During the pandemic, the famous dim sum place in Chinatown closed, so it's now moved up to Westchester, where the organizer lives. I haven't gone for several years, but I'm hoping to make it today. I'm going to bring up something Russian that's actually not political at all. Has anybody ever heard of the series "Yeralash?" From what I gather, it's kind of a turn of the millennium version of the Our Gang comedy shorts. Most seem to be on YouTube as far as I can tell.

I don't speak a word of Russian, and the closed captioning on YouTube doesn't seem like they're getting everything right, but even if you don't, you can still get the gist of what's going on, and I must admit they're fairly amusing.

I was prompted to try to zoom in on them, thinking they might be hidden messages making fun of younger drivers who didn't know what they were supposed to do.


So instead of using real examples, they use AI to make fakes ones that just look like they're from the '60's.

I was just rummaging through a website on old car brochures, when I decided to check out the one for 1960 Dodge Polara and Matador. I like the '60 Dodge Polara and Matador better than any of the '60 Darts (though I don't really hate them), but let's face it; the styling on most Chrysler products in 1960 was out of date. Either way, I was checking out one of the pages for the Matador when I stumbled on something very surprising:

Maybe it's me, but I think Rachel Ziegler has been getting a lot of crap thrown at her for no good reason. It has almost made me want to go out and see the remake of Snow White just out of spite.

That I'm the only one of my sisters and friends who doesn't have a boyfriend which has upset me for the last few weeks

Last night, MeTV played two of the worst episodes of two sci-fi TV shows.

1)Star Trek; All Our Yesterdays. There was no reason to leave Mariette Hartley on that planet before it blew up.
2)Lost in Space; The Great Vegetable Rebellion. Unarguably one of the worst TV episodes of all time at large. The series finale of shows like "Seinfeld," "I Married Dora" and most of the 4th season of "Victorious" remain masterpieces compared to this one episode.

I was talking with a friend of a friend who used to work at a nursing home in NYC and he was telling us about some horror stories he witnessed. He said if people knew what went on they would never send loved ones there and to remember that people only hear about what gets reported.

It is important to show up daily, if possible, and to install a camera in their room that broadcasts 24/7.



He said that he saw people using residents' fears and disorders against them to "comply". Staffers were able to see residents' medical reports and one was previously abused at another facility by being sprayed with a hose. Report mentioned resident had huge phobia of bathrooms/water.

They would threaten to "get the hose" which caused him to scream.



Another resident with dementia used to wander into other residents' rooms at night and steal things. The resident in the room caught him and proceeded to beat him up.

The guy (my friend's friend) wanted to go in to break it up, but another employee stopped him to let him "rough him up a bit" so he would be sent to medical instead of having to deal with him.

but he did it with kind and respect to anyone who would ask questions and truly listened to them.
This is WHY he has captured the hearts of the young!!!

Based on what you're saying, I'm thinking about the fact that there appears to be more angst about the possible job loss of a two bit nasty TV comedian than the cold blooded murder of a human being because of his outspoken views.

Among the aspects of the post was how baffling it was that I didn't remember her show out of all the other kids' show hosts out there at the time.


More recently, I started to realize the reasons why.

Her show (not "The Patchwork Family") was on at lunchtime. And at every house I've ever been in as a kid, lunchtime was not the time for television.

Her show seemed to encourage kids to eat lunch and watch TV at the same time, or at least was designed to appeal to kids who did.

Lynette Winter (LaRue) from Gidget vs. Lauren Frost (Ruby) from Even Stevens.

Am I the only person who sees similarities between the two of them?

When MeTV started running episodes of "The Adventures of Superman," one of the first episodes I caught was the season 4 premiere "Joey."

This episode involved the Daily Planet buying a race horse from a friend of Perry White for publicity and charity. The horse has a close bond with the guy's daughter (played by Janine Perreau), and her dad has to sell him to keep his horse farm from going under. The Daily Planet tries to enter him in a race, but he won't do so without this girl, so they reunite the horse with the girl. This pisses off some Metropolis mob bookies and they try to go after Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen to stop them. Superman saves the day, as usual, but there's something I'm surprised to notice about the teenage actress in this episode. She's unbelievably natural looking. I didn't think girls over 14 who didn't wear make-up were allowed on either television or in the movies in 1956.
