I have seen the film before but I saw “Alice Doesn’t Live Anymore” last night. It is a good film actually. It is about a woman who has a dream of being a singer (honestly, I don’t think she was that great of a singer, sorry Ellen Burstyn), but ended up being a lower middle class housewife to an emotionally abusive truck driver and (what my post is about), the most annoying kid ever.

This Tommy was played by a one Alfred Lutter, and like I mentioned, his character of Tommy was to me well acted, but he played absolutely the most annoying, smartass kid ever who basically would get on your list nerve. I am watching the film and wanted to belt this kid. I think that was the point, this woman is going through a lot of stress, losing a husband, having no money, living in poverty, and Tommy just added to her anxiety. You could tell that this kid will probably not end up well in life. Just too much of a jerk.

The TV Alice son Tommy was the opposite, very intelligent, athletic (Lutter couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time), respectful. I have read that Lutter was supposed to be on the TV show but was passed over supposedly because of his attitude, so maybe his Tommy wasn’t much different. But the kid grew up to be very successful.

He was also in an episode of Family playing an annoying neighbor kid. They explained him as being an only child or something like that.
Personally I always liked his character in the original film.

There was a funny line in the pilot where Tommy (Alfred) said "now I'll never get to meet Tatum O'Neal". Alfred and Tatum were both in Bad News Bears earlier that year.

Alfred Luther as Tommy sorta reminded me of a boy version of Heather Hartman from Mary HartmanX2. It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but he was obviously a victim of abuse also by Don, then being drug around while other men were abusive to him and his mother, its no wonder he was how he was, so I felt sorry for him

I think the Tommy from the TV series had sorta a smart-ass edge but in a good way lol

I haven't seen "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" in many years, and the main thing I remember about Tommy is he was a Mott The Hoople fan, and that the band's "All The Way From Memphis" was in the opening credits for the film.

He probably doesn't regret not being in Bad News Bears Go To Japan.

Isn't Tommy from the TV series Alice related to one of the girls in "Facts Of Life"?

Been decades since I thought of that trivia, but is that correct?

Yes. Philip McKeon was Nancy McKeon's brother.

Mott the Hoople. T Rex. It's like a cavalcade of glam rock.

It's also got at least 3 of the actors from Taxi Driver. Watching it now.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore aired on TCM tonight as part of a tribute to Kris Kristofferson. And if you think my feelings on Linda Lavin being outlived by Polly Holliday can't get any more hardened, the closed-captions for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore have not been changed to sentence-case. Any time I check the closed-captioning for a Warner Bros. film (always having the volume on my TV or laptop off while doing so), I always get disappointed about this. I wish such a conversion had happened before either Ms. Lavin or Mr. Kristofferson died. (BTW, all of the films airing as part of that tribute to Mr. Kristofferson are part of the Warner Bros. library.) ;(
