It’s vice versa with me. I admit, Rose’s ********, nonsense stories are no treat, but I prefer that to hearing Blanche boast and gloat about her sexual encounters with men in the most disturbing, groaning, delirious, sick way.

Yeah! I used to like this show first run, but now I find Blanche annoying! Pretty much I can take or leave the show altogether anymore, not one of my favorites! ;)

It’s not the whole character herself, it’s her personality. She’s so selfish, uncaring, egotistic, envious, irresponsible, ignorant and all she does is bitch around and gloat and boast about sex.

And she gets WAY worse in later seasons.

Rose is a very nice lady, but she is just way too incredibly dumb. I could never be friends with someone like her. Her stupidity boggles my brain and makes me frustrated.
Anyway, I agree that Dorothy was way too good for Stan. Overall, Dorothy is a great lady... super smart, decent looking, a great friend and a kind person. Sophia should have treated her better too. I always hated the way that Sophia looked for any opportunity to insult or humiliate poor Dorothy. And for what? Dorothy was a gem of a daughter. Sophia was a wicked snake who didn't deserve Dorothy. I hated the way she treated her.
Oh, I like you also loved when Dorothy told off Barbara Thorndike for wanting to exclude Murray Gutman from that snooty/restricted club. I loved when Dorothy told her "go to hell."

Rose’s super simpleness can actually be very funny…especially when one of her clueless remarks is following by one of Dorothy’s deliciously sarcastic responses.

Blanche is funny but Rose’s simple naïveté can really be hoot. Sophia is too caustic fir my taste. If Sophia were a chemical she’d be sulfuric acid!

Flo was good-natured

Blanche was also good-natured; she was just in heat all the time.

I thought Blanche could be very kind hearted. Sure, she was selfish and vain at times, but all in all, she was a good person who cared about others.

Unlike Blanche who sometimes neglected her children, Flo never had kids because she knew that she was incapable of being a true "mother" which is the opposite of selfishness. Having kids just to "save the marriage" or just because she can is selfish. Flo was a good person.

I can't comment as I've never seen The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Betty White's character, Ellen Jackson on Mama's Family was very different from Rose, a snooty, socialite, sharp witted, conniver. Betty White is a very talented, versatile actress.

Dorothy can be very blunt and abrupt at times, but she gets that from her mother. Her other side is sarcastic, snarky, domineering, and don’t-take-any-crap but at the same time is very fun and loving and caring and comforting.

Sophia is very blunt and abrupt, those traits Dorothy inherited, as mentioned earlier. She can be very rude and insulting but at the same time loves a good laugh and tells the truth. She won’t let anybody mess with her daughter and tries to protect her the best way she can, despite lying to save her own conscience at times.

Rose, in the first three seasons was head scratchingly and mind numbingly naive. By the fourth season, she starts to get quite dumb and by season five it gets worse. Despite her unintelligent side, Rose is very sweet and kind and has a very generous and caring and devoted side, but at the same time has a short fuse.

Blanche is so vain and selfish and hypocritical and insecure. Also, all she thinks about is sex. She’s very opened minded when it comes to sex and is obsessed. She’s often characterized as being man hungry. If a man she likes takes interest in another woman, they’re dead meat. Despite that, while it might be difficult at times to see, Blanche has a very caring and loving side.
