Which is why I haven’t been on the boards. Doctor wanted me to stay away from reading for two days.

Had a sudden onset of A LOT of small black floaters. Often floaters are harmless, but sometimes can indicate a retinal hole or tear, which can be serious. My opthamologist, after examining me, suspected a retinal hole and referred me to a retina specialist. The specialist THOROUGHLY examined my eye and said I needed the hole lasered as he was concerned fluid might leak behind the hole. So he lasered it and told me to stay away from reading/internet until late this afternoon.

Glad you're doing better, vision is so important. Will you have to wear special glasses or contacts for awhile?

I wondered where you were, we've been missing you. Glad you're back!!

Frankly, I've been seeing floaters, for years, but I've not noticed a increase in them. Hope I don't.

My brother, who I'm always mentioning on these boards, had the surgery several years ago -- and has experienced no problems in all the years since. Best wishes, I'm confident you'll have the same great outcome.

I had lazik surgery last summer, which went really well. They had to take me and my bike home in an Uber/Lyft, and I was instructed to take a nap for four hours. It was so different, all afternoon each time I woke up, my eyes were watering profusely, like I was crying, but my eyes were healing after a twenty minute laser surgery. It was so different to no longer be wearing glasses since the age of sixteen. They explained that I would be seeing haloes of light for the next several months, but I was to take eye drops every hour or so. Now my far vision was excellent, but I would just need a cheap pair of reading glasses from the store to be able to read small print.

It was so different to be without glasses, but I look a lot better! I see a lot better as well! I only had to go in that next Saturday for a follow-up eye exam and everything was just great! It was better than expected.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I always wondered about lazik and those I know who got it raved about it. Nearsightedness does increase the likeliness of getting a retinal hole. Now it makes me wish I had got Lazik, but was always creeped out by the later. My myopia isn’t that pronounced though, so I avoided it. But this was a necessity. Retinal holes, if left untreated, can sometimes lead to the retina beginning to detach...which is extremely serious and can lead to blindness in the affected eye.

I’m really glad I jumped on this; the abrupt change in vision was a red flag something was amiss and I’m glad I nipped this in the bud.

I know this is late, but how did your appointment go?
Glad you are doing better now, but stay up on it with at least yearly or bi-yearly check-ups :)

I had laser surgery about 15 years ago (twice in both eyes) because of diabetic retinopathy. I have seen a retina specialist every 6 to 8 weeks since.

Over the years, my eyes for the most part have been fine and haven't needed treatment, but for the last several years I have had to get a shot in my right eye (Eylea or Avastin) on almost every visit due to swelling, which is bleeding in the eye.

Thanks for asking! My follow-up visit went well and the retina specialist liked the way the hole was healing. He wants me to follow up in a month. My next appointment is mid June.

Sorry you have diabetes. As someone who has it (relatively mild though) I can attest it can be a very sucky disease. It pretty much means kissing comfort foods goodbye. Thankfully I’m finally adjusting to the Metformin and my post-prandials are much better.

I’m REALLY watching what I eat and trying keep my net carbs below 75g a day.

If you ever want to discuss the disease or some reasonably good substitutions for rice, noodles, pizza etc. let me know. I did find a very low-carb ice cream.

Great to hear of your healing retina. I'm reminded of my sister-in-law having some healing going on in her ear -- the body's restorative powers after a surgery are amazing.

Yes indeed, the human body is quite amazing, especially the eye. I always thought the eyeball was where most severe eye damage occurs but it’s the retina.
