Watching today "Pride and Privacy ' Part 2 that I saw like a million times already before , I picked up on something unusual ? Or I think is unusual? Maybe not?

Both Julie and Barbara have looked at the same apartment for rent , not realizing each other has and than become in competition for the apartment for themselves and their Hubbies Max and Mark! ;)

Anyway the apartment is described as " A basement apartment in and old house on Lombard Street owned by a little old lady with blue hair, it has a fireplace and a little room for you to write (Max) you to study (Mark)" ! Anyhoo, a fireplace in a basement of an old house converted into an apartment?? Can there really be a fireplace in a basement???:confused:

I just today caught onto that !!

Thoughts??:)

I can only find current information. No time to check out early ‘80s possibilities

Are Fireplaces Allowed in Basements?

Basement fireplaces are allowed in many parts of the country. Depending on local regulations by your Homeowners Association (HOA), building code, and local law, you may be able to include a fireplace in your basement.

Seems like it would be a fire hazard! :eek:But than it is a finished basement, nicely converted into an apartment, not a damp dreary place filled with tools and junk ! ;)

I guess the old lady with the blue hair had it built, added to attract more renters, give it a warm cozy feel! :)

I would have liked to have seen this! I wish they had a scene where either Julie or Barbara was looking at this basement apt., and I would like to see Mrs.Blue hair too ! :D

We also had a fireplace in the house I grew up in. With 2 large built in bookshelves on each side of it. It was in the basement family room.

This house has one. Ten or so feet from it is a regular exit door to the back yard (walk-out basement).
