View Full Version : Knee Replacement update
Penny Lane 04-09-2021, 09:40 AM Had total knee replacement on my right knee. Been in Rehab 3 weeks. Still have a way to go before I can go home. Still having difficulty standing up . I am in an Assisted Living facility and am hoping to be home in a few weeks. The pain is not so severe now but still uncomfortable. I have my laptop so I am not totally bored. I am SO ready to go home! Hopefully soon.
GentlemanJim 04-09-2021, 11:02 AM Certainly "best wishes" to you for a complete recovery.
My mother had a knee replaced, and the discomfort never left her. She concluded that if she had it to do over, she wouldn't go through it again. Hopefully, your mileage may vary.
biffbronson 04-09-2021, 11:10 AM So glad you're on your way to recovery -- best wishes and may you have a really speedy one.
You seem to have had good "help," but will need to be careful not to "twist and shout." Soon people will be saying "I saw her standing there!" -- any pain will "blow away" and belong only to "yesterday." I don't know when they're in season, but I know you'll be ready to pick from the "strawberry fields" again, maybe on "Junior's farm"...!:)
HuntingtonM15 04-09-2021, 11:12 AM So glad to hear from you, Marlene, and that you're on the mend! Many family members of mine have had knee replacements over the years, and they've all gone very well. Even though I'm sure the facility is the last place you want to be right now, you'll be back home on your feet in no time.
AMackII 04-09-2021, 12:49 PM Best of Luck on a Continuing Recovery, Penny Lane

I know at least one person who struggles with knee replacements and it's over 5 yrs since he's had the surgery. One friend had one at 86 and she is doing well at 95 now...
I have a nasty knee from hip replacement surgery complications and have no plans to do a knee job.
Good luck.

My knee is all so worse from hip replacement BUT I can't do more surgery on my body, as it brings on more arthritis and more damage. I know there are people out there that do more and more surgeries thinking they are the answers, but not really, more damage to our bodies....our culture has been surgery surgery but there is Regenerative Medicine being done now to keep people from those surgeries, the PRP and Stem Cells are more and more being used..people have been harmed and are looking for other help.
Dude111 04-11-2021, 06:00 PM Yes I am so sorry Carole :(
Bonniegirl 04-11-2021, 09:21 PM Hi Marlene, good to hear from you ! :) You are very missed here on S.O. ! Wishing all the best to you and a very speedy, full recovery on your knee !;)
Good to hear that you're doing better. Hope you get to go back home soon.
biffbronson 04-25-2021, 08:34 AM While we await an update from Marlene, we can only "imagine" what it's been like as she's attempted to "get back" to how things were for her.
"Stuck inside these 4 walls" unfortunately is the case for anyone undergoing something comparable, certainly with many a "hard day's night." She just needs to "let it be" while the body heals, "listen to what the man [or woman doctor] says," and then it's "(just like) starting over" as the mobility recovery progresses...! :) Best wishes.
Penny Lane 04-25-2021, 10:05 AM I am still in assisted living but getting stronger. I am able to stand up without assistance and can walk holding onto a railing. I am hoping to go home soon as on the first of the month I have to pay ahead for the month of May. So I hope I can go home this coming week. Between paying for my husband's care and mine it is putting a dent in my savings account. Each facility runs me $4500.00 a month each so my money won't last forever. I'm glad that Dave set up such a good savings account or we would be screwed.

We are so glad you are doing better. Hang in there, knowing there are many people here hoping for your full recovery and wishing you the best.
The cost of health care is insane, and is a total rip-off for the many people who need medical care.

Glad to hear you’re improving. I have arthritis in my knees, so this might be down the road for me.

Some respond well to the surgeries others don’t. Me, I’m a big baby when it comes to surgery. My doctor practically had to kidnap me to do a colonoscopy.
I have arthritis on my knees. It’s mild - they just feel sore when I wake up. I hear fish oil is good for arthritis and sugar and processed foods really bad. I hope I never have to get the surgery and am hoping that eating right and keeping a good weight will stave surgery off.
Happy you’re a very sturdy 82; hope I age well too - at least health-wise.
Thank God for the Metformin; I might really have a shot at getting my A1C below 5.7 on my next test. I’m grateful I’m tolerating it well now and am one of the lucky ones where it really decreases my appetite.
Caroline13 04-25-2021, 08:19 PM One can save themselves from this major joint replacement surgery..if one can find a Prolotherapy provider (lowest cost injections) or a PRP provider (next price up) and at least get a consultation if you are a candidate. Insurance does not pay...and my theory on this is it could put a lot of surgeons out of this very costly joint replacement surgery. Very costly. I've had the lowest cost work in one shoulder and my knee and it does work, even if one gets 50-70% improvement, that is a lot. If one can bend the knee and walk, they have cartilidge in that joint, but surgeons like to tell patients, "you are bone on bone"...Remember this. This is their bread and butter.
Here is a list of Prolo providers and I'm sure there are many more since this listing.
