Watching season 2. I've just finished EP 36 "Forgotten Party" . They must of written it in ten minutes. Beaver forgets a 11:30 Saturday party to neurotic David Manning. Mrs Manning calls "where's Beaver'? An hour the Cleavers search for him. Finally he's found covered in tar. He'd walked on, then fell on a freshly tarred road. No sane kid walks on fresh tar, sorry. Cleanup hours? He miraculously makes his late party on time. And David Manning (Johnny Collier)? Born in 4/44. A year older than Wally 4/45. Odd, strange, weak episode in a terrific season 2. Rated it 3/10 being generous.

Hard to believe that kid is around 15. He looks like a 9 or 10 year old who chews (his fingers) like a beaver.

The episode was written by Connelly and Mosher. Looks like they should have had some seasoned sitcom writer or writers fix the script.

The episode where Wally catches June making out with Eddie in the den while Ward looks on. Disgusting!

I'll take this episode over Beaver in the Bunny suit any day. Though I will say David Manning is one of the more annoying characters on the series.

David Manning, Kenneth Purcell, and Jackie Waters--a trio of insufferable kids. We ought to do a poll of which one is the worst.

Lumpy's one-liners after Beaver the bunny came downstairs saved that episode.

By least favorite, I mean ones that I don't care to see in repeat views, and so I won't record on the DVR for re-watching. Once was enough.

- The Beaver in the Bunny Suit one

- Pet Fair

- Wally's Mustache

- Wally's Pug Nose

- The one where the boys want to play but they have to hang around the house because June's Aunt Martha is visiting.

- The one with 'Chopper' in it.

- The one where Wally contemplates military school.

- The paper drive one.

S3 E29 "Beaver's Monkey" is absolutely horrendous. Ward's something like " we can't say no to him having a monkey, after telling him he couldn't have a mouse." "I don't want to be the one to say no". The cast seemed to be calling it in on this rediculoous episode. Their performances seemed strained. Even their voices seemed tense being near the monkey.

One of the stories Rusty Stevens tells in that long thread I bumped up, is of the monkey getting away from the trainer and pulling his hair. He says he still has a fear of monkeys. That incident could account for the actors' tense voices. He thinks the trainer finally got the monkey off him.

An ill-conceived episode, like the one with the horse, which also caused a lot of trouble. They could blame Hugh for writing that one, and George Tibbles for this one.

I've read animals are always a problem on the set, understandably. They have trouble doing what the director says!

Season 6, "The Poor Loser." I think it's the worst of the episodes where they push the teenage Beaver back into the little kid character.

Beaver's supposed to be around 13 in these episodes, and that's a difficult age. Gilbert pushed him back into being a selfish little kid, then Wally made the mistake of giving him a choice.

Beaver's conscience eventually kicked in, but by that time Wally had missed the game. At least Beaver got him a baseball.

agree to all and

- The one where Wally tells Beav that he has to keep studying during the last week of school even though all the kid's grades are already in.

No one mentioned the Puddin' episode yet, but it's the worst, IMO. "Child Care" from season 1.

I didn't mind it. Rated it 8/10. Preposterous, irresponsible, improbable yes. Letting 2 kids babysit a little girl by themselves is absolutely stupid. Script with tons of holes. But, it was bad funny. Monkey was bad unfunny.

David Manning, Kenneth Purcell, and Jackie Waters--a trio of insufferable kids.

And don't forget Chuckie.

The David Manning character made sense to me: He was an insecure kid who needed friends and had to get Beaver to go to his party even though he hardly knew him.

He almost cannibalized his own fingers.

Yep, Mother Manning needed to keep his fingers out of his mouth.

It's hard for me to believe the actor, John Collier, was born in April 1944, which would have made him 15 in this episode. No way that kid is 15. I know this has been discussed recently...

Here's something equally strange. Barry Gordon (who played "Chopper" Cooper in "Beaver's House Guest") appeared in the movie A THOUSAND CLOWNS in 1965 playing a 12-year-old, even though he was 16-going-on-17 at the time.

Sometimes if a juvenile actor is small, or appears younger than his or her age, they may be asked to play a younger character. It even happened with Jerry, who was 9 at the start of LITB was was playing closer to 7.

I probably should have said, he doesn't look 15.

Another odd one, to me: The late Billy Booth, per Wikipedia born 11/7/49, on Dennis the Menace (Billy played Tommy) looks to be same age as Jay North, who was born 8/3/51. He sure doesn't look nearly 2 years older than Jay.

S3 Ep33 "The Spot Removers". Horrible. Miscast Richard no comedic edge failing to replace Larry. Jerry Mathers a lot of emotional overacting. Ward preachy and philosophical the last 5 minutes with hokey music playing in the background..

I'm a hater of Monkey & Apes in tv shows ...

Beaver's Monkey I won't watch
Gillligan and the very weird looking real monkey is creepy
even the 3 Stooges with the man in a suit "Wild Man" just seems dumb

Maybe Bewitched where Serena changes Darrin's beautiful Italian client into a monkey or chimp?

S4 E19 "Beaver's Old Buddy" Is a stinker. Best part is Ward admitting Jackie's mom is hot.

Sometimes Eddie or Lumpy come in to save an episode (Lumpy saved Beaver the Bunny).

Nothing could save the Jackie Waters episode as it was. All they had to do would be to get Rusty Stevens back for this one.

"Beaver's Old Buddy" is an example of a lot of classic sitcom episodes having only one major theme. When the theme clicks it's magical. But when it doesn't it's like a sinking ship taking on water. This episode actually got gloomy. These dud episodes fade from my memory over time. I've seen all LITB episodes multiple times as a kid, but didn't remember any of this forgettable one.

"Three Boys and a Burro" is really just plain stupid. Common sense Ward made out to be brain dead. What's next a shark in the bathtub?

My least fave was where Eddie had Beaver insult a Hispanic kid.

S6 E7 Tell it to Ella is absolutely horrible after all time favorite Eddie, the Businessman (with its marvelous ice cream kept unfrozen).

Thought the paper came early evening? Dry as dust Michael and Kevin leave the house to announce they can't leave the house? A suit and tie to go to a football game? Eddie is the only bright spot here. Dreadful episode
