This just aired on Me TV today! What happened in the scene that was cut?
And yes that Mrs. Murdock was such a high strung drama queen. Worrying Ward & June, telling them she’s never forgive herself if Beaver got killed. LOL, she makes Mrs. Mondello look like the voice of calmness!
Just curious: why do you hate this episode? I kinda liked it; but honestly haven’t come across a LITB ep I haven’t liked or loved. And that’s a real tribute to the show. Even my beloved 50s show, The Adv. of Ozzie and Harriet had a couple of eps that made me go P.U. ( mostly the Tiger eps). But the good eps on O & H, were just out of this world! Esp. “Wally’s Traffic Ticket”.
stevea 11-02-2020, 11:39 AM Well let's just say it's not my favorite.
Drama queen is a perfect description for Mrs. Murdock. As for Marjorie Reynolds, over-acting or emoting would be her description.
I remember they cut the first scene. I think it has to do with Ward and June talking about going over to see some friends' new baby. Scrabjan, help!
I'll say they did give Chuckie some pretty funny lines. He was going to scream at virtually anything. Also those "It's OK" responses to the shoes, then "I don't like 'em" was pretty funny.

Thanks for clueing me in! It’s annoying when scenes get cut. I caught this in “The Fraternity Rents A Room”—a classic ep of O & H. LOL between my 6 copies of this from my various DVD sets, I noticed this. Eps running 21 minutes from a 50s show usually mean something got axed besides the commercials. This often happens with the cheaper more poorly put-together sets.
That Chuckie was a Class A Brat and little manipulator. I bet he didn’t pull too much of that with Mrs. Murdock, she’d probably smack him or give him a dose of what real drama/manipulation is.
What’s interesting in this ep is how Wally, usually the paragon of good behavior and responsibility, really f#’s up! I mean, what was he thinking, pawning off a responsibility of this size to Beaver? Also shocked Ward didn’t come down hard on him. I think Wally should have been grounded for two weeks and lose one week’s worth of allowance. Just my opinion, of course.
stevea 11-02-2020, 02:55 PM Wally really wanted to go with Eddie, and he really misjudged Beaver's ability to do the job. Wally would have known to keep an eye on the kid at all times.
They wrote some funny material for Chuckie. Check out the later Beaver's Frogs episode, where Beaver explains the facts of frog life to Chuckie.
Then in the next season they screw up in the not-so- memorable Beaver babysitting episode--Chuckie appears to not know Beaver at all.
Torgo 11-02-2020, 03:47 PM Chuckie's New Shoes would be a good episode if Chuckie and his mom weren't in it.
I do like the sales man who helps Beaver, I think for me he was the highlight of the episode.

He was very nice—and patient!

Better yet, Chuckie's mom could have taken her brat to buy shoes after she dropped her husband off instead of dumping him on Wally.
What did Chuckie do to his shoes that he suddenly wouldn't have any to wear on Monday? Maybe the mom should be more organized with her kid's footwear.
Torgo 11-02-2020, 03:52 PM He was very nice—and patient!
Yes he was! And he never stopped helping Beaver trying to find Chuckie.

That Chuckie! What a manipulative little brat!

If you don't, I'll scream!
Torgo 11-02-2020, 04:49 PM I should say, even though there are episodes that are on the bottom of my list, I still watch all of them, and even ones like Chuckie's New Shoes or Beaver The Bunny or Three Boys And A Burro, I still find good things about them and never find them boring.
stevea 11-02-2020, 06:52 PM There's not a Beaver episode I WON'T watch, and that's rare for me, for any sitcom. There are Lucy episodes I won't watch (like the Scotland episode and the bratty kid) and the Brady Bunch (Kelly's Kids). All those bratty kid episodes are the same script recycled.
Yes, the salesman--another great performance by Jess Kirkpatrick, who had a couple of other roles. Oh, little boy! (They should have checked under the chairs!)
As I said this is one of my least favorite episodes, along with Beaver the Babysitter, and the Bunny.
Torgo 11-02-2020, 06:56 PM Oh yeah, he plays the garbage man! And Eddie's boss in the episode where Eddie is working at the pet store.
stevea 11-02-2020, 06:58 PM Yep, he plays the garbage man twice, once in the teddy bear episode, and later when Pete and Chris, his sons, visit the Cleavers.
Scrabjan1 11-03-2020, 09:45 AM Exactly the two Lucy episodes I hate too. I can’t watch the Scotland episode with Fred and Ethel as a two-headed monster and the bratty twins who kick Lucy in the shin. Just awful. Can’t imagine a kid getting away with kicking in the leg.
By the way I never really watched Ozzie and Harriet. Is it a funny show? I did like Wally okay and later I liked Jim Stacy.

Well not so much funny, as endearing-to me anyways. I really liked Harriet and Ricky’s acting a lot, and that it was kinda the first reality show.
But there are some very funny and/or heart-warming eps. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND “Wally’s Traffic Ticket” which is QUITE funny. And the classic ep “The Fraternity Rents A Room”. Both are on YT.
Torgo 11-03-2020, 11:46 AM If you want to see a very young Jerry Mathers, he shows up as a trick or treater on O&H 'The Halloween Party'
An episode I thought was funny was is 'The Ladder' where Ozzie and Thorny get stuck on the roof during a storm.
A couple of others The Tent and Buried Treasure.
I can't think of an episode from the series I haven't enjoyed, granted I haven't watched a huge amount, but catching them here and there on YT, it's been fun seeing them. Before that it was random channels on Dish, not channels you would normally find regular TV shows airing.

Another great ep is The Pajama Game from one of the earlier seasons. Also Ozzie’s Night Out. Both on YT

Thank you! I haven't seen either of those two yet, will definitely watch them:)

One nice thing about O&H is that it was played back to an audience for live responses. So you don't get the canned laughter at inappropriate times.
stevea 11-03-2020, 03:16 PM That Chuckie! What a manipulative little brat!
Even before he was named, he was a brat in Wally the Businessman. He wouldn't pay for the ice cream.
OH Nuts! 11-03-2020, 03:35 PM He sure wanted his ice cream! He even bit Beaver to get him to buy him one in the shoe ep.
Scrabjan1 11-06-2020, 11:32 AM I don’t remember Chuckie biting Beaver. I guess I don’t know everything about Chuckie’s New Shoes. He surely was a brat. Mrs. Murdoch calls him Charlton.
stevea 11-06-2020, 01:44 PM I don't recall Chuckie biting Beaver, either. Also I don't remember Mrs. Murdock calling him Charlton, but I seem to remember a line like that from Bewitched. One line I like was a reused bit about mommy hitting him, "all the time."
As I said before Chuckie's best episode is Beaver's Frogs, and he wasn't even central to that one.

He does it really quickly right after Beaver says no to the ice cream, in unison with screaming.
Scrabjan1 11-12-2020, 06:42 PM I could have sworn after she tries to appease Chuckie, as she takes him home, after he thinks she’s going to hit him she calls him Charlton or Carlton.
