View Full Version : Our Satellite Company Just Dropped Goodlife TV
twinkle44301 06-30-2002, 11:01 PM I can't believe they did this!! I loved that channel. Does anyone get Goodlife anymore? None of our local cable companies carry this station. I can't imagine a channel that makes itself so unavailable to so many people. What an odd marketing technique. I am glad I don't own stock in the company and I sure wouldn't want to be one if its advertisers. Talk about a limited market....Bummer!
ClassicTVHits 06-30-2002, 11:04 PM Recently AT&T Broadband in many New England systems dropped GoodLife networks from Digital Lineups. Though GoodLife has increased programming, many cable / satelittle systems have decided to drop it! :(
Will and Grace Fanatic 07-01-2002, 02:38 AM Well, I've heard my cable company is dropping it even though they haven't yet. although I wish they would all the shows on that channel suck.
ClassicTV4Ever 07-01-2002, 07:06 AM Thank goodness we still have it! I just got digital a few weeks ago and I swear, if my cable company gets rid of it they'll be hearing from ME!
NONE of the Goodlife shows suck. Except for the westerns tho. I mean, it's not all 50s stuff. Matter of fact, they only have two 50s sitcoms. The rest are 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. My Sister Sam is way better than Will & Grace anyway:rolleyes: .
twinkle44301 07-01-2002, 01:29 PM It is interesting how many people don't have this channel. I loved it, but it isn't a channel with a huge audience (I would think), so you would think they would want to make it available to as many people as possible. Guess not. I emailed them. It will be interesting to see if I get a response.
Goodlife is one of those channels that shouldn't cost much, and should be in all cable/satellite packages. I find it odd that it is so hard to get!!

I have to second that :)
twinkle44301 07-01-2002, 03:48 PM This is odd...
I called our Satellite provider (we have one of those old big dishes), and they told me that Goodlife is gone. Like poof it is off the air. I told her that their website was still up and is she sure it is gone-gone, or just gone from their service. She said gone-gone. Does anyone know if this is true?
Then she proceded to tell me about all the other channels they have to offer and wanted to sell me more! How about replacing the ones we lose with others. Nahhh...
dawsongirl 07-01-2002, 04:50 PM The website is still there.

ClassicTVHits 07-01-2002, 11:11 PM GoodLife might not be the best network on Cable Television (it definately isn't) ... but they definately have many programs worth watching. :)

In no way is this true. I was just watching GoodLife a few minutes ago. That lady either didn't know what she was talking about, or completely misunderstood what you meant.

"My Sister Sam" was a really good show that aired in the mid 80's. I'm not sure how old you are, but maybe the reason why you or nobody else you know has never heard of it because you may have been too young when it came out.
Mr. Shy Guy 07-02-2002, 11:30 AM I don't have goodlife but I'm curious, what does it show. Is it like the Hallmark channel. (it sounds like it)

It's a lot like Hallmark. It's goal is to air quality programming like "Make Room For Daddy," "Ozzie & Harriet, "My Sister Sam," the short-lived mid-90's sitcom "Getting By," "Highway To Heaven," and lots of other goodies.

No, I didn't misunderstand the lady, she was just wrong! I found Goodlife's website and called them! In the past, I have found the Netlink CS reps to be less than informed. She said they were off the air for good. Then she proceeded to try and sell me more channels!! How about replacing the ones THEY dropped for whatever reason....
Oh well, we are switching to Everest Cable in about a week or so, so I am going to eventually drop all my satellite services. I am going to keep the dish though, since there are lots of freebie channels and feeds I like.
I just hate when someone tries to bamboozle me.
brypie 07-03-2002, 02:11 PM I had Goodlife on digital cable and it's gone for me too. It's now replaced by Nick Toons. The on-screen tv guide still says that it's Goodlife, but it's gone. Seems like kind of a sudden thing.
I guess you and your friends don't watch E! or something because they air the Rebecca Shaffer: E! True Hollywood Story about once a month. You probably never watched My Sister Sam. I saw Will & Grace and it made me puke. And another thing, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet is gonna always be better than Will & Grace because it (Ozzie and Harriet) lasted for 14 years. The only show that's coming close to breaking that is The Simpsons, and I think that it would be a great successor for the Nelsons. Will & Grace has lasted how many years? 4 years? Oh yeah, 4 years, that long?!?! It feels like it's been on for a hundred years................Will & Grace=Puke City. Goodlife TV=One of the many channels I consider to be Paradise. I'd rather watch a four hour marathon of "From the Archives" than just the 9 seconds in the Will & Grace opening credits. Oh and that annoying theme song..........just ugh.............
twinkle44301 07-03-2002, 02:57 PM I found out what the deal is with Goodlife....They recently switched from analog to digital service (not sure if I spelled these correctly!). Anyway, I called our satellite provider again just to see what they would say, and they told me the channel is gone. Poof...out of business. Obviously the CS are doing what they are told, but someone at Netlink is either having them lie to us, or they don't know what is going on.
I also asked them what they were going to give us as a replacement and they said nothing. I love my bid old satellite dish, but you don't get much compared to what cable has to offer these days. We are switching to Everest in the next week or so anyway, and will get a ton of channels (too bad Goodlife isn't one of them!) anyway.
But I hate to be lied to!!!!

First off Will and Grace is still on the air that's the reason it hasn't seen season 14 yet it is still a young show. Annoying song? I love that song. it makes you puke? Why because it about gays? If that's the only reason your some type of bigot!
And what kinds of awards did that show win. Probably none or very few. Each season W&G is the most nominated sitcom at the emmys. They have won best actor, best sup. actor, best sup. actress and best comedy.
And if goodlife was so good why are so many cable companies dropping the damn thing? Cause no one watches it.
twinkle44301 07-03-2002, 05:00 PM Actually I think the Goodlife Channel has some rather good shows airing at this time. No need to bash the channel if it isn't your cup of tea....we all have our own favorites. :)

No offense, but Emmy wins do not always suggest good programming. It also doesn't translate to "World's Best Show/Actor/Actress."

Yeah I agree with that. A show's greatness is not determined (IMO) by how many awards..unless like everyone votes in it. Shows that have been #01 in the ratings such as Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days never won an Emmy (I think), but they have many devoted fans. If I had it my way, The Emmies wouldn't exist--IMO they choose some of the worst shows and it's usually the same shows/actors each year.

Whatever!! I'm ending this now.
Getting mad because they're right and your wrong??!?!?!?! And just to let you know, you must be the bigot if you were the one who beought it up. If you brought it up, it must have been on your mind, am I right? I think that you need to handle what you are and not worry what I am. BTW, I'm no bigot. Gays are welcome to do anything heterosexuals can. The reason I don't like "Will & Grace" is because I find the jokes LAME AND STUPID AND BORING AND DUMB AND PERVERTED. I'm glad that there are 5 networks I can get away from that crap with: GOODLIFE, Hallmark, TVLand, TBS, and my Independant Station. Just because a show isn't realistic, that doesn't make it bad. Sitcoms are meant to be unrealistic. I have a real good hunch that Will & Grace will get gracefully cancelled in 2004. And like the others said, just because a show got a lot of Emmys, that doesn't mean it's terrible. Look at FOL, it ran for 9 years and didn't win a single Emmy. Same with "Alice." I think that how good a show is depends on how long it lasted. I wouldn't waste my time on a show that only ran for 4 episodes, like most of today's shows. The only shows I would give the light of day to are shows that ran for at least a whole season. You may like this Generation X/Relationship Sitcomworld, but I don't and like my signature says, it's my opinion, and today is the 4th of July, so I have more right than ever to state my opinion. I think that NBC is currently the worse network of all. Why you ask? Friends, Frasier, Will & Grace. I mean, what happened to creative TV show titles? TV in a whole went downhill in the mid 90s. That's when all these shows about people try to find love in the big city came out. All those shows are predictable. Predictable and dumb. And most of them only ran for less than 10 episodes. And most of them are ugly people! And let me tell you, I hope Will & Grace gets not a single Emmy this year. Why do people think it's funny anyway? Whatever happened to the shows of yesteryear? I think anything that premiered on the networks after 1990, with the exception of Step by Step, Reba, Sabrina, Maybe It's Me, Raising Dad, Bernie Mac Show should be burned.

Please I agree with Will and Grace Fanatic whoever said it makes them puke is a bigot. I find Will and Grace to be one of the best shows of all time. No one cares about those shows on Goodlife that's why so many cable providers are cancelling the channel. Thank God!! And what do you mean by predictable? Those corny and unreal very unreal shows on Good life are all predicatble and you ask what happen to those shows well the debuted no one watched them and they were cancelled. Cause they suck!! Just like you!! I'm not against anything unreal but if a show is about these perfect kids and the perfect parents I won't watch it.
Will and Grace Fanatic 07-04-2002, 11:03 PM thank you tv lover!!

Um just because somebody doesn't like a show doesn't make them a bigot...oh and I agree with Jae Tee most of todays shows are awful but thats just my opinion.
Sean Snow 07-04-2002, 11:56 PM I think this conversation is entirely messedu p..it doesn't make you a bigot if you don't like a certain program..it's called DIVERSITY! And we haev a right to like whatever we want, we don't need to be told what to do and what to watch. If we happen to like 50s/60s show, nothing can change that. Some of us personally thnk goodlife is a good channel and that today shows sux compared to some of the shows of the 60s/70/80s. The point of having a message board is to let our opinions out not to hold them in just because it doesn't work out for some person. Just beacuse you don't agree with a person doesn't mean you have to act childisha nd tell them they suck or just say whatever cause you don't like how things are currently going in a topic. So what if we like some unrealistic sitcoms? As long as we like them, I don't find anything wrong with liking a certain show.
Thank you Sean! Thank you Lynn! I have TWO people on my side, buddy! Look at this:
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet=14 years
Make Room for Daddy=11 years
My Sister Sam=2 years
Mayberry R.F.D.=3 years
New Dick Van Dyke Show=3 years
Hmm......together that's 33 years already..........that shows that Tthe shows on Goodlife actually lasted a good bit, and Will and Grace Fanatic, if you REALLY grew up in the 80s when Cosby was popular, you would know what My Sister Sam is because it was on from 1986 to 1988. So I advise you shut yur mouth and slap yourself silly. And tvluver........you mind your own business because you don't even know what shows come on Goodlife. Just because I said Will & Grace makes me puke doesn't mean I'm homophobic. The thing that makes me puke is the fact that all of the people on it are ugly. Now I have no more time to waste.
Will and Grace Fanatic 07-05-2002, 01:56 AM To everyone on this board I have offended:
Ok, I'm sorry to anyone on this board on this whole good life subject I never meant to get anyone upset over this subject or to get my self in a dizzy over this subject. You guys like clean comedy as I do but I also like comedy that is kind of crazy like Will and Grace is. I'm sure that there are some shows that we all hate and shows that we all love. Just ask some of your favorite shows are probably some of my favorite shows. Please except this apology.
Will and Grace Fanatic

Mr. Stefani 07-07-2002, 09:03 PM Cablevision digital cable had it, but then decided to DROP it for Oxygen Select:mad: !
