I know Felice was in college by that time but what about the Julies?
And I really really wonder why Charlotte Rae was never seen on the parent show with the girls. Do you have any idea?

I've wondered this as well. Felice was headed to Brown University, apparently, around that time, but she was also filming Zapped. And Julie Pie went to UCLA. Julie Pie was still doing after school specials and an episode of Three's Company in 1983.

Around that time, Julie Anne appeared on a TV series called Boone, where she played an orphan character named Banjo, so she was still working at that time. I haven't seen this series.

Maybe it was their decision. They choose to leave instead of appearing as guest stars 2 or 3 times a season.
And what about Charlotte?

Felice said they offered her to return to Season 4, but she wanted to be a full time University student and with Brown being on the East Coast and filming for FOL on the West Coast, it would be hard fly back and fourth. Don't know why the Julies did not return, but they were never really featured after Season 1. They didn't even get their names mentioned.

Can you tell me where Felice mentions an actual offer for Season 4? I only find confirmation of Seasons 2 and 3, and a mention of her struggling with the workload of going to school while doing FOL.

This quote I think it was because there were too many girls and it became a bit too confusing. They decided to go with just four strong characters. I was supposed to return to do recurring appearances, but at that point, I had decided that I wanted to go to college and dropped acting for a while.

Since Felice was on Seasons 2 and 3 for a few episodes, I think she was talking about Season 4 here.

It would have been nice see the Lost Girls, orr at least Nancy and Sue Ann in the Graduation episode

This quote

Since Felice was on Seasons 2 and 3 for a few episodes, I think she was talking about Season 4 here.

She doesn't actually mention Season 4, or an offer of Season 4 appearances from the producers. Only the mention of doing recurring appearances (which she did in Seasons 2 and 3), and the facts that she dropped acting for a while. But Zapped premiered in September 1982, which was during the fourth season of FOL, so she was still acting around that time.

It's possible that she was talking about Season 4, of course, but Felice also did an E/R appearance which aired in January 1985, which according to her LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/felice), was while she was still attending Brown University. So she gave up acting, except when she didn't give up acting, and she "was supposed to do appearances", indicating she didn't do them, but she did them throughout Seasons 2 and 3. Her statement, here, feels weird.

I would definitely have liked to have seen Nancy and Sue Ann graduate alongside Blair and Jo. The girls they got to fill in, as graduation cameos, didn't have the resonance we would have had with Nancy and Sue Ann. We could have had flashbacks including the Lost Girls. And of course, Cindy would have been there, cheering on her besties from the sidelines. THAT would have been a cool way to wrap up Season 4: with the Eastland finale the school and those girls deserved.

It was nice that there were additional appearances by the lost girls, but by season 4 the cast and concept was set in stone, and so there was no reason for them to keep making periodical cameos. Frankly, the fact that they came back for The Little Chill is absolutely unheard of as far as cut character re-appearances in a sitcom, and the fans of those girls should be grateful that even happened.

Haha! As Lorimar says, we're forever grateful. That sort of thing (a character reappearing after being missing for five seasons) almost never happened in the 1980s. It's much, much more common in modern television.

Hmmm.... good question.

There was Cheers, where Diane returned, after a long gap, but that didn't air until 1993.

I can't think of any others... can you?

Mrs. Garrett and Adelaide on Diff'rent Strokes. Well, Adelaide returned only one season after her departure but Mrs. Garrett was absent for three seasons and a half, and she was never mentioned.
The Ropers too returned in TC

Yes, he stayed until the final season. The Ropers came back for a guest appearence in late season 5. I slightly prefer the Ropers as the landlords but all three of them were okay. And you?

Really? I cannot imagine the DRUMMONDS never mentioning MRS G????:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup

She was never mentioned. Her last episode as a regular was The Rivals (s2 e13). They mentioned her in the following episode but it was taped before The Rivals, it doesn't count. In the episode where Adelaide arrives (s2 e16), Mr. Drummond on the phone said the last housekeeper just left. Charlotte returned in season 6, 1984, five years and three seasons and a half after her departure

You know that is shocking: the only reason i remember DS it's because of MRS G (of course i knew all the other casts lol!) but to me, she was kind of the main star after ARNOLD lol!:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat:yeahthat

Yeah. Even in 1993, though, having an actor come back after such a long period was very rare.

ITA makes a good point about Mrs. Garrett coming back for the wedding.

The Ropers were gone for less than two seasons when they made their guest appearance on TC. It feels a little different. It was still pretty unusual, but I know we've seen other shows where actors missed a season and then returned... but five seasons? I think that was much more rare.

It took me a few years to finally see “The Little Chill”. I never seemed to catch it on Nick at Nite. When I read the episode description I was sure it was fabricated! We’re supposed to assume then that Nancy and Sue Ann graduated a year before Blair and Jo, though, right? Sue Ann’s already working at the point. Nancy’s focused on her wedding, not school.

Are you absolutely sure that NANCY & SUE ANN had already graduated on 'The little chill?': just because they're both working doesn't mean they're not studying? (SUE ANN could have been doing a part time job then)?????:welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome:

It’s not explicitly said, especially in Nancy’s case, but Sue Ann does lie about being a Vice President, which is plausible enough for the girls to believe as long as she’s graduated from college. There aren’t any VP interns to my knowledge lol.

Also, where are we to assume Sue Ann works? It seems like a New York company because she comes off as a high power business woman who shops at Bergdorf’s, but when she asks her coworker to cover, she says it is because she wants to spend a day in New York; so we know she’s not living there....
My guess is LA.

Like Sitcommania, I do believe Sue Ann may have graduated early. She's the type to study hard and matriculate a little earlier than her peers. There's no way she would have been a VP while still going to college.

Sitcommania, good question about where Sue Ann lives now. We aren't told, but as you say, we're given tantalizing clues. I would have guessed she worked in New York, shopping at Bergdorf's, too, but as you say, there would be no need for her to skip a day working in the city if her plan was to spend more time in the city.

It's possible she really did go back to Kansas City, Kansas. But maybe she works somewhere upstate. Maybe a "magical place" like White Plains...?

I agree that Sue Ann graduates early. I think she might have graduated Eastland early too considering we don’t see her after s3 and Jo is the valedictorian when we all know Sue Ann is the smartest girl at Eastland.

That would explain why we don't see Sue Ann in Season 4, but it doesn't explain why we don't see Nancy or Cindy in S4. Did they also graduate early? Did Eastland really allow many students to graduate one year early? Wouldn't that cause a tuition hole? Do we really believe that Sue Ann and Nancy graduate six years before Tootie?

No Nancy doesnt appear because of Felice obviously and Cindy being the only lost girl probably made it easier to just stop showing her.

White Plains, haha maybe. Sue Ann’s company sells cosmetics, right? That seems very NY to me, but LA might also be a runner up in terms of fashion and models, and considering she was making it a point to visit the city.
