View Full Version : Head of the Class Season 1 coming to DVD 6/9/2020
MacLeaper 05-20-2020, 11:10 AM HOORAY! According to this report (https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/051920-1500), Head of the Class Season 1 is coming to DVD in just a few weeks from Warner Archive!:)
(I'm sure the new version of the series coming helped spur this decision.)
I recently watched the whole series on The Roku Channel and have seriously been getting big into the show again. I loved it as a kid in the '80s and I still love it now. It's so great to finally see this coming to DVD!
RetroGuy2000 05-20-2020, 12:04 PM Wow, that's cool! Thanks, MacLeaper!
Svenfan1234 05-20-2020, 01:27 PM This is awesome! I'd say I also would like to see them start and finish all of The Hogan Family, but I think we all know how realistic THAT hope is...sadly. Given how they finished Alice, Step by Step, & Perfect Strangers among others, hopefully this one will also be completed.
TVQuack 05-20-2020, 03:05 PM This is amazing news, I am beyond excited for this!!!

You're welcome! :)
I was quite excited to see this myself. You can go ahead and pre-order the DVD set now and see the cover art at Warner Archive's site. The cover art looks great, in my opinion!

AngieTribeca 05-22-2020, 10:00 AM Knowing Warner Archive they will probably start and stop this series on and off like they have done with other series. They will probably start releasing a few seasons, take a brief/gigantic pause then release the remainder a couple years down the line. Either that or release season 1 and leave the remainder in limbo for the unforseeable future.
I'm excited but I'm going to wait until I see a few seasons on DVD before I make this purchase. Nothing like owning a season of a show and anxiously awaiting for more seasons to come.
Here's to hoping that all seasons will be released in under a 4 year span of time.
We've got Alice, Family Matters, What I Like About You, Perfect Strangers, Growing Pains, and Step By Step all completed on DVD so here's to Head of The Class.
umfan87 05-22-2020, 09:23 PM I'm thrilled this show is finally seeeing the light of day on dvd i remember watching reruns of this on nick at nite in the very early morning hours back in 2002 and 2003 then really becoming a fan of it when it came to antenna tv so i will glady be buying a season one copy hopefully enough fans buy copies so we can guarantee we get season 2-6 this show deserves to be seen more so it can get more fans.
This is most-welcome news. :) Manufatured-on-demand is a nice option.
MacLeaper, I also loved it as a kid (I was 11 when it premiered).
'80sSitcoms 05-23-2020, 05:21 PM Wow, it's about time! About 15 years late, but better late "to the class" than never! lol

Cool! I was a little bit younger when it started (4) but I loved watching it too along with my family. I long remembered Mr. Moore's great one-liner from the pilot as a favourite moment. "My name is Mr. Moore, but you can call me by my first name- Mister.":)
bh7812 05-27-2020, 06:09 PM First of all, I give Warner credit for finally releasing it. Finally. I kept saying several years ago, on this very forum haha, that I expected it that year, then a few years later it was okay it definitely has to be this year. I admit this timing is way WAY off of my best guess for when I thought they’d do it. However, I think a physical DVD release would have made a far bigger splash 15 years ago as another poster said. I just hope for those who would rather have physical releases that Season 1 sells well enough for the other seasons to be released.
Where I’m at with the show finally being released is that I’m definitely going to support it but I’m waiting to see if Warner will, along with the physical DVD release, fly dump the entire series on iTunes. If they fly dump all of it there I’ll just get all of it digitally. They did that suddenly with Growing Pains, Family Matters and Perfect Strangers then did the individual DVD releases. I’m trying to get my shows digitally these days, it’s just easier for me. My physical DVD collection is already obscenely large, I’m not sure literally where I’d have space for any more physical DVDs. DVD releases period are severely slowing down, that format is disappearing fast. If they do this show physical DVD only then I’ll buy it that way. I will say it’s gutsy on Warner’s part to do a physical release in 2020.
^The MOD format removes most of the risk, given that it simply manufactures the discs that are ordered- least I think that's how it works. :p
yanksno1 06-06-2020, 08:27 PM Wow, never thought I'd see the day. Guess that puts my work collecting the episodes for nothing haha. But I'd def rather have a complete unedited collection then what I captured. Hopefully they release the rest of the seasons too. Think I'll wait till that happens. After Who's the Boss never releasing any more seasons, that's what I'll do for the future.
When someone gets this, do share thoughts.
I plan on getting this, once some bills get reconciled and such. :p
bh7812 06-11-2020, 07:08 PM No digital release yet, I know iTunes adds stuff at least a few days a week so I've been checking for it!! Hopefully soon. Stuff is usually added by Midnight Pacific on there so I'll check again overnight tonight! When/if it's available digitally I'll post here right away just so folks know they've got that option at that point.
In the meantime, I see the entire series is on the Roku Channel! Looks like Roku has a few different apps, there's a Roku Remote app and a couple of other Roku apps. Which one should I download if I want to watch it on my iPad? I figure it's probably all master copy so I can watch it on there while I wait for the digital release!
Edit- found the app and got it set up, watching the show now! Master copies as I suspected. Only thing I don't like on Roku is I can't make it full screen but this'll do till they get it up on iTunes.
Ron Ron 06-16-2020, 06:36 PM I bought the set and had forgotten how funny this sitcom was.
The picture quality is just ok. It is very grainy IMO.
The episodes look so much better on the Ruku Channel where they are available in HD.
Thanks for the notes. :) That's kinda what I expected, given the type of release.
Ron Ron 06-17-2020, 11:53 AM All the seasons are available on HD so why not release them on DVD? Even if you have to charge more for them.
Step by Step and Perfect Strangers are now on HD too but I believe the DVDs released are equal to it minus them not being in the original 4x3 frame/format.

Do you mean Blu-ray? Because this is already a DVD release? The HD versions on Roku are upscaled from video masters so they shouldn’t look much better than this DVD - is the DVD using different masters?
Step By Step and Perfect Strangers are 4x3 both on streaming and on DVD. The HD is obviously somewhat better due to the extra resolution though.
bh7812 07-06-2020, 08:48 PM Head of the Class is now available on both iTunes and Amazon Prime Video!! You van buy seasons individually one at a time or the Complete Series box set! It's finally available both digitally and physically! I sent Warner a message a few weeks back asking if there were plans to release it digitally as well as the physical release, they didn't answer back which told me it was definitely coming soon but I didn't expect it that imminently! I'm impressed! I bought the Complete Series box set. Conplete Series box set is 70 dollars on iTunes. As promised I wanted to let you all know if and when it became available digitally too so everyone knows they have the digital option open to them too now in case anyone wants the Complete series digitally now!
Adamantium 07-06-2020, 09:26 PM Thanks for letting us know. Ever since the episodes came to The Roku Channel, I kept searching Amazon to see if I could buy the episodes. I'd rather watch them without ads and so I'm willing to pay per season. However, I noticed the first season only has one episode on Amazon. The rest of the seasons look complete, however.
I've never been on iTunes, so I don't know how that works.

I noticed that too, Amazon has pretty poor quality control with this kind of thing, but I assume they'll fix it eventually.
I don't recommend switching to iTunes, they have far less bitrate and the quality really does suffer.

I'm shocked only one episode of Season 1 is on Amazon!! Season 1 all together has 22 episodes, a full season load. Complete Series is 112 episodes. All of Season 1 is showing up on my episode list. So I'm surprised to say the least Amazon only has one episode of of Season 1! Actually went :O when I saw that! I'm sure it'll be corrected, it was probably an error on Warner or Amazon's part.
I had started watching Season 1 on Roku but the ads started irritating me and there were some hiccups with it on my end so I'm glad they finally put it on iTunes so I can download it locally to my iPad and have it ad free! Just literally a few Warner shows left I'd like to see released, I'm sure they're coming shortly! Head of the Class was one of the real long shots though so I'm happy it's finally out.
Adamantium 07-10-2020, 11:17 AM Just letting everyone know that Amazon now has all 22 episodes of season one available to stream. I purchased all five seasons. :)
Thanks for sharing all the info. :)
yanksno1 10-03-2020, 09:49 PM Just saw on here the Second Season is coming! Looked on the WB site and it says it's release date is 10/27/20. I'm guessing the entire series is coming as well, with this release. Now here's the question. I already recorded all the eps, took out the commercials but of course the opening/closing credits are crunched. I'm tempted to buy the entire series once it's out. But it's already on Amazon Video for $9.99 a season (all 5 are already there). Decisions decisions haha.
will be released on DVD on July 20.
Oddly, Janice is missing from the cover.
